Luckily for Coker, Coenen was more than willing to engage the media. Coenen — who has waited a decade for another crack at a world title since winning the 2000 ReMix World Cup in Tokyo — talked openly about the role of women’s MMA and her desire to see it grow.
She credits "Cyborg" and Gina Carano for serving as important role models for the sport and hopes one day to be listed among them. While she’s happy that the sport has come a long way — when she was growing up, female fans of combat sports could only compete in judo — she recognizes there is still a long road to travel before average fans look past how female fighters appear, rather than how talented they are.
