Cro Cop Says He Was Taking It Easy on Anthony Perosh

Those of us who were a little concerned with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (http://wiki.cagepotato.com/index.php/Mirko_Filipovic)’s apparent inability to put away Anthony Perosh (http://www.cagepotato.com/hippowatch-anthony-perosh-scores-four-fight-deal-ufc) at UFC 110 should just calm down a second, says the former Pride great. According to Cro Cop (http://www.fightersonlymagazine.co.uk/news/viewarticle.php?id=3997), the reason he didn’t put away a bloodied and battered Perosh was because he “couldn’t do that to him when he was so bloody.” This claims prompts the inevitable question, you getting soft on us, Mirko?

It’s hard to say just yet, but it seems as though Filipovic will cut you some slack if you take a fight out of your weight class on short notice:

“I admire Perosh for accepting the fight. There were much better fighters there who turned it down but I understand why; they did not have time to prepare. [But] I am very sorry that I had to hurt Perosh. I tried to fight with as much consideration for him as I could. I even avoided the ground because I am 7, 8 kilos heavier than he is.”

Ordinarily we might be inclined to call shenanigans on a fighter who claimed that the only reason he didn’t finish an opponent was because he felt sorry for the poor bloody bastard, but if you go back and look at the expression on Cro Cop’s face (http://www.cagepotato.com/potato-index-ufc-110-aftermath) after his elbow sliced Perosh open you get a sense that he might be telling the truth.
However, that still leaves us wondering a) why he didn’t put him away sooner, since there wasn’t much offense coming back at him, and b) whether there’s any place in this sport for acts of mercy.

Perosh is net als Mirko een kroaat en kroaten zijn zo pratriotisch als ik weet niet wat. Dus ik denk dat dat ook een meespelende factor was.

Cro Cop moet doen war hij voor betaald wordt... Een goede show neerzetten in een ring/kooi. Als iemand wel wat extra aandacht op een positieve manier nodig heeft qua vechten is hij het wel. Dus niet zo jengelen en gewoon je ding doen. Laat zien dat je nog wat in je hebt en een groot vechter bent. Maar persoonlijk denk ik dat het juist daar misloopt. Als groot Cro Cop fan uit zijn pride tijd, vind ik het jammer om te zien hoe hij zich nu blijft verontschuldigen voor zijn slechte optredens. Er is altijd wel iets de laatste tijd.

Het was niet slecht, maar voor deze CroCop kom ik mn bed niet meer uit.

Ik denk dat er wel een kern van waarheid in zit, je zag crocop echt bezorgd kijken toen ie die cut maakte met zn elbow en hij stopte ook meteen, maar een van de dingen die CroCop altijd zo tof maakte was dat hij echt dat imago had van ijskoude killer die zn tegenstanders sloopte. Ag ja hij heeft weer eens gewonnen dat is al heel wat, echt helemaal de oude zal hij wel nooit meer worden helaas..

Maar ja, dan kan je je afvragen waarom je uberhaupt Perosh als tegenstander hebt geaccepteerd?
En wat wou die dan? een puntenoverwinning pakken zonder Perosh veel pijn te doen?
Het heeft wel iets vind ik, maar hij zou gewoon 100% moeten geven en na de wedstrijd een biertje doen ofzo.

Zuffa rewards Anthony Perosh with UFC contract following Croatian beatdown


Australian grappler Anthony Perosh probably thought his UFC career had come and gone following his consecutive losses inside the Octagon back in 2006.

"The Hippo" first appeared at UFC 61: "Bitter Rivals," where he was pounded out by Jeff Monson midway through the first round. He got a second chance later that year against Christian Wellisch, but came up short on the judge's cards at UFC 66: "Liddell vs. Ortiz 2."

It's not surprising when a fighter gets released after an 0-2 debut, but 0-3? That can get you a four-fight contract extension according to InfiniteMMA.com.

Of course all you need to do is step up when the promotion calls and take your lumps like a man. And that's exactly what Perosh did when he filled in for the ailing Ben Rothwell on two days notice against Mirko Filipovic at UFC 110 last Saturday night in Sydney.
