A heavyweight bout between sluggers Ben Rothwell and Gilbert Yvel has been moved from the unaired preliminary portion of UFC 115 to take a vacated spot on the televised main card portion of the card.
A spot on the main card was vacated after the lightweight bout between Tyson Griffin and Evan Dunham was bumped off the PPV main card and demoted to the event's prelims.
However, its not all disappointing news as the Griffin vs. Dunham bout will now headline the Spike TV prelims special for UFC 115. Another lightweight match up in Mac Danzig vs. Matt Wiman is the second bout that will also appear on the one-hour broadcast.
Rothwell (30-7) was originally supposed to fight earlier this year at February's UFC 110 event in Australia, however, he was forced out of his main card bout against Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic after he came down with a nasty bout of the traveler's flu.
In his last fight, Rothwell suffered a controversial second-round TKO loss in his UFC debut against Cain Velasquez at UFC 104 on October 24. The fight was stopped after Rothwell was taking several unanswered blows from Velasquez against the cage, however, many felt it was stopped prematurely as Rothwell was still coherent and seemed to be transitioning back to his feet.
Prior to joining the UFC, Rothwell put together a impressive 14-1 streak, which saw him go 9-0 in the now-defunct IFL promotion. The eight year veteran of the sport has competed for other notable promotions such as Extreme Challenge, King of the Cage, Adrenaline MMA and Affliction.
Rothwell wasn't the first opponent being considered for Yvel (36-14-1) at UFC 115, as he the Dutchman was originally set to face Pat Barry, however, Barry was pulled from the bout in favor of a match up with "Cro Cop" on the same card, which is now the night's co-main event.
Yvel is 1-2 in his last three bouts, most recently suffering a first-round TKO loss to Junior dos Santos in his UFC debut earlier this year at UFC 108.
The Dutch fighter has competed for other prominent organizations during his nearly 13-year career such as Rings, M-1, Fight Festival, Cage Rage and Pride. He has finished all of his 36 career wins, including 31 by TKO or KO and holds notable career wins over the likes of Semmy Schilt, Fabiano Scherner and Cheick Kongo.
UFC 115 takes place on June 12 at GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and is headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between former UFC champions Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin.
