No shit, Sherlock! :)
UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock acknowledged in a recent interview that he used steroids during his mixed martial arts career. That shouldn't surprise anyone; Shamrock has long looked the part of a steroid user and tested positive after his last fight.
But what is noteworthy about Shamrock's comments is that he said he thinks the fans want to see athletes use steroids because they always want to see bigger and stronger competitors.
Asked on HDNet's Fighting Words with Mike Straka whether he used steroids, Shamrock answered, "Absolutely."
Shamrock then went on to say there's a certain degree of hypocrisy among fans, both in MMA and in other sports, who cheer steroid users while they're competing only to play dumb when steroid users get caught.
"They want home runs, baby," Shamrock said. "They want people jacking them out of the park. But then when they find out about it they want to stick their heads in the sand and say, 'How bad, that was stupid, you're crazy, don't let him in the hall of fame.' It's like let's point the finger. ... Nobody wants to take responsibility, but everyone wants to see it."
Although anabolic steroids are illegal, Shamrock said acquiring them is easy for a professional athlete.
"It's like going to the grocery store," Shamrock said. "It's that easy. It's that simple."
