A heavyweight contest pitting Cheick Kongo (15-6-1 MMA, 8-4 UFC) against prospect Travis Browne (10-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is expected for UFC 120.

Sources close to the event today told that the fighters have verbally agreed to the bout and are expected to put pen to paper shortly.

UFC 120 takes place Oct. 16 at the O2 Arena in London and airs via same-day delay on Spike TV.

Kongo recently was cleared to train after he suffered a back injury that forced his withdrawal from a meeting with Roy Nelson at Saturday's UFC 116 event. (Nelson is now scheduled to meet Junior Dos Santos at UFC 117 in August.)

The French heavyweight most recently faced Paul Buentello at UFC on Versus 1 in March and battered the fighter with a rarely seen attack of ground and pound. A kickboxer by trade, Kongo has ended nine of his 15 wins by way of knockout, though he has worked diligently to match his grappling with his fearsome striking.

Prior to the Buentello win, Kongo suffered a pair of losses when he was out-grappled by contender Cain Velasquez at UFC 99 and choked out by former champ Frank Mir at UFC 107.

So far, though, most who have stood with Kongo have had a bad night.

Browne made his octagon debut earlier this month when he bowled over "The Ultimate Fighter 10" veteran James McSweeney at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale. It was the undefeated heavyweight's seventh first-round stoppage and his 10th fight since his professional debut in February 2009.

Browne currently trains at the Alliance Training Center alongside UFC veterans Brandon Vera and Joey Beltran and WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. When he's not in the gym, he runs a company that trains dogs for military service.

The position of Kongo vs. Browne on UFC 120's card is unknown at this time.
