KSW Federation has informed MMA Spot that KSW owners Maciej Kawulski and Martin Lewandowski recently met with Russian MMA fighter and Pride Fighting Championships veteran, Aleksander Emelianenko, at the Hyatt hotel, in Warsaw, Poland. Under discussion was Emelianenko’s participation in upcoming KSW events. According their report, the meeting was both substantive and amenable to the parties involved, as a verbal agreement was reached.

The special invitation extended to Emelianenko from the Polish MMA promotion was considered a success, with all participants content with the results. “We have a verbal agreement in place with Aleksander and we can reveal that Polish MMA fans will be soon able to see this formidable fighter in the KSW ring,” Lewandowski and Kawulski announced.

The first fight for Fedor Emelianenko’s younger brother has not been officially determined, though it is likely to be against polish strongman Mariusz Pudzianowski. Earlier this week, KSW revealed that an opponent for Pudzianowski would be confirmed at a press conference for the upcoming KSW 14 event. Among the candidates being considered are Eric "Butterbean" Esch and Aleksander Emelianenko, according to the organization.

The press conference is set for Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 12 p.m. CEST, and will be broadcast via the KSW Federation website (KSW - Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki - Oficjalny serwis Federacji KSW).

Pudzianowski (2-1), a relative newcomer to the fight game, is a former five-time World’s Strongest Man. He last fought at “Moosin: God of Martial Arts” on May 21, in Worcester, Mass. losing a lopsided bout where he verbally submitted to the strikes of former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia in the second round.

Esch (12-7-1), the face of the Moosin organization, was highly critical of Pudzianowski—giving some credence to the possibility of an upcoming match between the two.

“I know he allegedly broke his foot in the fight against Sylvia,” Butterbean commented, “but he didn’t show anything before he quit. Pudzianowski has no stand-up and as strong as he is, he punches like a girl. All he does is throw arm punches. He needs a lot of help. He’s the 5-time World’s Strongest Man but hits like a 130-pounder, not a strong man who weighs 270 pounds. He doesn’t have the skill level to get to the level he wants to fight.MMA Spot - KSW Owners Meet With Aleksander Emelianenko, Reach Verbal Agreement (http://www.mmaspot.net/index.php/redblack/comments/20100730_ksw_owners_meet_with_aleksander_emelianen ko_reach_verbal_agreement/)

Polish promoter: Emelianenko has hepatitis C

http://www.mmabay.co.uk/img/Aleksander%20Emelianenko.jpg

The co-owner of Polish promoter KSW says the rumors about heavyweight Aleksander Emelianenko's disease are true.

KSW last week announced a deal to bring Emelianenko into the company, but co-owner Maciej Kawulski today said during a Polish TV interview that the deal is off because the promotion found out that Emelianenko has hepatitis C, according to a translation provided to the Middle Easy site by MMA Rocks.
"Aleksander has got Hepatitis C, that's a serious disease and we won't risk Mariusz's or any of our fighters' health in such a fight," Kawulski told news channel Polsat News.

Promoters hoped to pit Emelianenko against MMA newcomer Mariusz Pudzianowski, a five-time winner of the World's Strongest Man competition who won his first two MMA fights before losing to ex-UFC champion Tim Sylvia in May.

Now KSW will throw the Polish strongman against Toughman icon Eric "Butterbean" Esch, who was a co-promoter on the Sylvia-Pudzianowski bout. Esch recently criticized Pudzianowski (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/mma/post/2010/07/butterbean-tears-into-pudzianowski-he-punches-like-a-girl/1) as an unskilled fighter who doesn't deserve to headline an MMA card.

Emelianenko, whose brother Fedor was ranked mixed martial arts' No. 1 heavyweight for years, is an accomplished fighter in his own right. His 17-3 record includes several victories in Pride Fighting Championships, and his only losses have been to superstars: Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett.

Affliction Entertainment hoped to bring in Emelianenko for fights in the United States two years ago, but the California State Athletic Commission refused to license him. Regulators refused to disclose the reason, citing confidentiality laws, but widely circulated rumors at the time mentioned medical issues related to hepatitis.

Hepatitis C is a liver ailment that can be transmitted through blood.

"I was negotiating with two organizations in Poland. We were practically on the same page with KSW, but didn't get to anything concrete. We waited for their offer for a long time. Same situation happened with Sergey Golyaev, whom they were dealing with through me. In both situations, their lack of response was so long that we lost all the interest. I realized they are just not interested in me as in someone they would like to see in their tournaments. So, I started talking to an organization from Poznan (Poland), which is a direct competition to KSW.

Just a few days ago, Sergey got a good contract from Japan. This contract states he can't fight anywhere within two months. So, KSW (finally) sent us their terms, but we told them "Sorry, you took too long, we're working with another organization right now. In particular, we made a deal that myself and my fighters will participate in a good tournament in Poznan, the same tournament that features Pudzianowski".

Right after this, it was released that Aleksander has Hepatitis C.

"I've no idea where this information came from. Both myself and my fighters will go to Europe to take a medical exam to disprove these rumors. It's just mudslinging someone started on the Internet to discredit people. We contacted a person from KSW who started this rumor, questioning where he got this information. In the next couple of days, maybe today or tomorrow, I expect his explanation regarding the official statement he made on TV"

And the plot thickens....
