de geruchten gaan datChael Sonnen en Wanderlei Silva de nieuwe coaches zijn voor het nieuwe seizoen van de ultimate fighter.

UFC President, Dana White has taken a step towards pitting middleweights, Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva against each other on the forth coming season of “The Ultimate Fighter” after revealing the California State Athletic Commission will not stand in the way of the Team Quest front man starring on the reality show.
Speaking today at the UFC 124 pre-fight press conference, Dana said:
“He could coach ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ Absolutely.”
“I’ve literally been on the road for so long now. I go home Sunday, and then I leave again Monday. I go on the road for another week. There’s a lot of things I haven’t dealt with. I haven’t looked at that thing at all, and now we have to figure out what we do with Chael. I guess the good part is that he got a six-month suspension. I was expecting a year. I have not come anywhere close to picking the coaches of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ yet.”
When asked what he thought about Sonnen’s argument during his hearing last week, Dana said:
“To be 100 percent honest with you, I haven’t heard anything about the Sonnen case. (UFC vice president) Marc Ratner was down there with him. But if you’re sitting here telling me that Chael said some crazy [expletive] down there that doesn’t make sense, it doesn’t shock me. I don’t know. It’s just one of those things that it’s a difficult situation. Now it is what it is.”
With filming due to begin in January for the thirteenth season of the hit reality show, as well as a proposed fight between Wanderlei and Chris Leben in the

The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale is June 4; door opened for Edgar-Maynard as coaches? (http://mmajunkie.com/news/22051/the-ultimate-fighter-13-finale-is-june-4-door-opened-for-edgar-maynard-coaches.mma)

The upcoming 13th season of "The Ultimate Fighter" debuts March 30 on Spike TV, and a source close to the show today told MMAjunkie.com (http://mmajunkie.com/) that The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale is slated for June 4.

The event takes place at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas and airs live on Spike TV.

Although no coaches have been named, the date would allow for UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and top contender Gray Maynard, who could be part of UFC 131 in June, to meet in a season-ending fight.

UFC officials will announce the coaches later today during a media call, but they and other industry insiders have been tight-lipped about the names. Edgar and Maynard have emerged as possible candidates, though rumored coaches have included everyone from Dominick Cruz to Urijah Faber to Chael Sonnen to Wanderlei Silva to Brock Lesnar to Frank Mir to Jose Aldo.

If Edgar and Maynard, who recently fought to a draw in the UFC 125 headliner, do end up fighting again at UFC 131, the timing would work out perfectly for "TUF" head-coaching stints and a season-ending fight. The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale takes place June 4, and as MMAjunkie.com first reported Monday, UFC 131 tentatively is slotted for a week later, June 14, at Vancouver's Rogers Arena.

"TUF 13," which begins production this month in Las Vegas, is a welterweights-only season of a reality series that first debuted in 2005.

Regardless of the coaches, UFC 130 (May 28), The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale and UFC 131 means the UFC is expected to host shows on three consecutive Saturdays.

In any manner, stay tuned to MMAjunkie.com at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. PT) for official confirmation of the "TUF 13" coaches.

http://uk.ufc.com/news/tuf-13-coaching-announcement

Slome
12-01-2011, 01:10
UFC President Dana White announced today that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and number one contender Junior dos Santos will match wits as the coaches of season 13 of the hit Spike TV reality series.

Following the season, which begins filming this month and begins airing on March 30, Lesnar and dos Santos will then match fists in the Octagon later in 2011.

This will be the first time either fighter has appeared on The Ultimate Fighter, which began airing on Spike in 2005. The last time heavyweights coached the show was during season eight in 2008, when dos Santos’ mentor, “Minotauro” Nogueira, faced off against former champion Frank Mir. This season, the two will coach a host of welterweight hopefuls looking to secure a UFC contract.

One of the biggest success stories of recent years, Brock Lesnar’s rise to the top of the UFC has been well-documented. A former NCAA Division I wrestling champion for the University of Minnesota, Lesnar brought size, speed, and power to the Octagon in 2008, and in only his fourth professional fight, he defeated Randy Couture for the heavyweight crown. After successful defenses against Mir and Shane Carwin, Lesnar lost his belt to Velasquez at UFC 121 last October. Determined to get his championship back, Lesnar knows the quickest way to do so is through dos Santos.

Unheralded Brazilian prospect Junior dos Santos turned into a contender overnight in 2008 when he knocked out highly-regarded veteran Fabricio Werdum in the first round. This spectacular debut was followed by finishes of Stefan Struve, Mirko Cro Cop, Gilbert Yvel, and Gabriel Gonzaga before earning a shot at the heavyweight title with a three round win over Roy Nelson. Yet instead of choosing to wait for Velasquez to return to action, dos Santos will risk his number one contender’s spot by coaching against - and then fighting - Lesnar later this year.

UFC President Explains Choice of ‘TUF 13’ Coaches

Two weeks ago, UFC President Dana White still was not sure who would coach the 13th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQBj059WPIjlPJtrmLlfVCXfo0KQXTmt rvY4Hf_fBn_RavcaKkYag

“We were sitting there, working on this thing for such a long time,” White said on a Tuesday media conference call. “At the press conferences, everybody kept asking me. I said, ‘I’m behind the eight-ball. I should’ve had this done already.’”

With the show scheduled to go into production in late January, time was running short for the promotion to attach a pair of big-name fighters to the season. Then, one day, it came to White.

“There were a lot of different people we were looking at and then, boom, Cain Velasquez gets hurt,” said White. “I was literally driving to work one morning and I said, ‘You know what? This makes sense. Let’s see if we can do this.’”

Enter former heavyweight ace Brock Lesnar and top contender Junior dos Santos, who was next in line for a title shot before champion Velasquez was sidelined with a rotator cuff injury. With dos Santos riding a white-hot, six-fight Octagon win streak -- including wins over top-tier heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson -- White said it made little sense for either the fighter or the promotion to have the Brazilian out of action for six to eight months.

“To put this guy on the shelf for a long time is ridiculous, and much credit to him for not wanting to go on the shelf,” said White. “We’ve seen guys who have been in similar situations that say, ‘You know what? I’ll just sit out and wait.’ Sitting out and waiting is insane.”

While getting dos Santos on board may have been relatively painless, the UFC executive could not say the same about the notoriously curmudgeonly Lesnar.

“In dealing with Brock, one minute, he can be into something, and the next minute, he can completely be not into something,” White explained. “I’m already prepared for this, mentally, and it’s gonna be a tough season. I know it is.”

After Lesnar had his heavyweight crown taken by Velasquez in a brutal October drubbing, rumors swirled that the former NCAA Division I wrestling champion was looking to retire from MMA and possibly return to pro-wrestling.

“None of that was true,” White said. “Obviously, I was in communication with Brock and his team, and talking to them the whole time... There was no wheeling and dealing about the WWE. I think everybody knows how I feel about that. He’s under contract with me.”

Though Lesnar has only three years and seven bouts’ worth of MMA experience, White bristled at the notion that the 33-year-old was unsuited to the task of coaching on the reality program, which premieres March 30 on Spike TV.

“The guy’s a former world champion, has beat guys and held the title. No matter what his record is, what the guy has accomplished in the short amount of time that he’s been in MMA is incredible,” White said. “To say the guy doesn’t have the credentials to coach ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ is probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.”

Speaking to Portal do Vale Tud (http://portaldovaletudo.uol.com.br/pt/?channel=2&id=2596)o, dos Santos is looking forward to coaching on the reality TV series and relishes the chance to impart some of his knowledge on new fighters.

“I liked the choice and opportunity to be the coach of the reality show will be a great challenge. My English is not 100% but I will do my best and I’m sure I’d be good…he Lesnar is a tough guy, is great. It is different from Cain Velasquez, because it is larger but is a bit slower, but it is as dangerous as Cain. It will be different, but I’ll keep working the same, which is the takedown defense and my boxing…

“I’m still picking my team. The Dorea will be the coach of boxing, Billy, an American friend, should be the coach of MuayThai. I’m thinking of someone else’s Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling and Rodrigo is perhaps the wrestling, which is very good, and speaks both Portuguese and English, which helps in communication. I think early next week we will have the full team.”
Filming for the reality series begins later this month and the series will start broadcasting episodes in March. Both men will meet in Vancouver on June 11th with the winner going on to fight Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight title.

Brock Lesnar on TUF, dos Santos: Roadblock on Way Back to Title

UFC president Dana White seems to have a way of always getting his man. Sure, there's a few exceptions, but for the most part, when White sets his mind to something, it gets done. His powers of persuasion aren't simply a product of his personality though. Just ask Brock Lesnar (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/Brock+Lesnar/), who at first turned down a chance to coach the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter until the pot was sweetened with a rental house for his family, and some cold, hard cash.

And so on Monday morning, like a good company man, the former UFC heavyweight champion walked into the UFC training center to his begin his duties on the upcoming season of TUF.

It's a season that will culminate in a fight between him and rival coach Junior dos Santos (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/Junior+dos+Santos/). The six-week scenario has a very simple theme for Lesnar, who admits he's yet to watch tape of his October title loss at the hands of Cain Velasquez (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/Cain+Velasquez/).

"Junior dos Santos is a road block in my way for me getting my title back," he said on Tuesday. "I don't got no beef against Junior. He's a nice kid. He's in my way and I'm going to do what I can to get him out of my way."

Aside from a one-night appearance at an MMA event in North Dakota, Lesnar hasn't been seen or heard from in the public since his loss to Velasquez. Despite that -- or perhaps because of it -- speculation has run wild that perhaps he would quit MMA. Some of that guesswork stemmed from a UFC 121 post-fight interview with pro wrestler The Undertaker just moments after hiss loss to Velasquez.

The Undertaker was being interviewed by MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani (http://www.mmafighting.com/2010/10/24/wwes-undertaker-brock-lesnar-exchange-words-following-ufc-121/) as Lesnar passed by on his way back to the locker room. Undertaker stared at Lesnar and muttered the now infamous words, "You wanna do it?" That set off a flurry of rumors about Lesnar's future, and whether it included MMA. Lesnar said that was never a question.

"It's a loss," he said. "I hate to lose but I'll get better at it. I'll find my way back as I always do."

Less than three months later, there he was, sitting on a chair and wearing a "UFC" t-shirt in the promotion's training center. He admitted he could think of other places he'd rather be for a six-week stretch, but said he was looking at it like a business trip with a dual purpose: to teach fighters and to prepare for his own June fight.

Since Lesnar was announced as coach there have been some suggestions that with his brief time in the sport, Lesnar might not be seasoned enough to impart cage wisdom on a group of hopeful UFC star, some of which may have been in the sport longer than him. To that, Lesnar bristled.

"I've been the UFC heavyweight champion," he said. "What more qualifications do you need to be a coach?"

Lesnar rattled off a list of coaches he's worked with and noted the group has experience leading individuals and teams to championships at their respective disciplines.

"I think we're well qualified to coach underqualified guys to become the next Ultimate Fighter," he said. "I've got faith in my people. These guys made me a champion. Why can't we make these young, eager kids successful? I think we can."

Saying all the right things and toeing the company line, Lesnar is back in the fold. It's got to be a bit surreal for him. On one hand, he's coming off the worst loss of his career, on the other he's one win away from getting back to a title shot. He's uprooted his family from their Minnesota ranch for a winter in Las Vegas, and the normally camera-resistant star will be the center of attraction every day for the next six weeks.

It's the cost of doing business, but as Lesnar says, it's a business he never left.

"I love this sport," he said. "I do. I would not be here if I didn't enjoy this. I could definitely do something else with my life. I've got a lot of opportunities, but for the time being, this is who I am and this is what I want to do."

Erik Paulson
http://cdn0.sbnation.com/imported_assets/642907/erik_20paulsen_20main_medium.gif

Well known in the submission wrestling world, Paulson is a 45 year old veteran of the sport. Having most recently fought in 2007, Paulson did most of his fighting throughout the 1990’s amassing a record of 10-4. He was the first American to become world Shooto champion, a title he defended for five years. He is a submission specialist who has toured the world in aspirations of training with the best trainers throughout his 30 years in martial arts.

Paulson began his martial arts journey with Judo in the early 70s but has dipped into everything from wrestling and boxing to Jeet Kune Do and Eskrima. He studied under Rorion, Royce and Rickson Gracie in his garage in the 1980’s and earned a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Rigan Machado. For anyone who doesn’t know Machado, he is an 8th degree Red and Black Belt under Carlos Gracie Jr.

Paulson also rolled with the legendary Dan Inosanto, who claims that Paulson is one of the most gifted grapplers he has ever trained with. Paulson currently runs the CSW Training Center in California where he's trained fighters like Josh Barnett, Renato "Babalu" Sobral, Cub Swanson and Sean Sherk.
While known more for his submission and catch wrestling, Paulson has been a pioneer of mixed martial arts for several decades. He not only brings a legendary lineage of knowledge, but he also has the patience and experience the young TUF guys can value immensely.

Greg Nelson
http://cdn0.sbnation.com/imported_assets/642910/greg-nelson-2col-722033_medium.jpg

Nelson is the founder and lead trainer at Minnesota Martial Arts. He has an extensive background in wrestling mixed in with over two decades of Thai boxing experience. Nelson founded the gym he runs in the early 1990’s that was home to former UFC Middleweight Champion Dave Menne.
But Nelson is more then just an accomplished coach. He is a former University of Minnesota Wrestling Team member and an All-American high school gymnast. He started in martial arts in 1983 has credentials in Jun Fan Martial Arts/Jeet Kune Do, a student of the legendary Guru Dan Inosanto. Nelson is also an Instructor in Muay Thai under Ajarn Chai Sirisute of the Thai Boxing Association of the USA. A grappler at heart, he earned the level of Advanced Student in Shoot Wrestling under Sensei Yurinaga Nakamura, and became a certified Instructor in Combat Submission Wrestling under Erik Paulson.
In 2002 Nelson became a Black Belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Pedro Sauer, and is currently a 2nd degree black belt. But perhaps the most impressive thing about Greg Nelson is the fact that he is a two-time cancer survivor after beating non-nodgkins lymphoma and a rare form of nerve cancer called neurolymphomatosis.

On a competitive level, Nelson has also been very active. He fought Muay Thai in the U.S. and Canada along with Amateur Shoot Wrestling. He won a Gold Medal in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the 1999 Pan-Ams, a Silver Medal in the 2000 Pan-Ams, and most recently three golds at the 2001 Grappling Games in LA.

Nelson has also coached other notable fighters such as veteran Nick Thompson, former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk, former WEC number one contender Brock Larson and most recently UFC lightweight Jacob Volkman. Bellator Heavyweight Champion Cole Konrad and World Muay Thai Champion Saul Mitchell are other notable fighters under his tutelage.
Nelson was very active in Lesnar’s first four fights but did not participate in helping get him ready for what turned out to be a close call against Shane Carwin and a destruction at the hands of Cain Velasquez. Nelson is an experienced MMA coach and as laid out here, will bring plenty of know-how to the TUF cast. Oh, and Brock too.

Marty Morgan (*Pictured right)
http://cdn1.sbnation.com/imported_assets/642913/wufhvdgifpltczy.20070304040010_medium.jpg

Morgan, Lesnar’s head trainer, is a former assistant coach for the University of Minnesota’s wrestling program. He is the coordinator for Brock Lesnar’s training camp which most recently involved reaching out to Pat Barry and Shane Del Rosario to help the pasty brawler in his camp for Cain Velasquez.
Marty Morgan, is a very accomplished athlete himself. He's is a three-time All-American, two-time NCAA finalist and a national wrestling champion. He was the first athlete to go undefeated (39-0) for the University of Minnesota. This is not to mention his achievements outside of college. Morgan won two Greco-Roman national titles and placed twice in the National Freestyles. He participated on two World Championships teams and one World Cup team. Morgan finished third at the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials and captured second at the 1996 Olympic Trials. He also placed twice in the National Freestyle Open.

His coaching career was also very successful. In the last nine seasons of his stay at Minnesota, Morgan assisted the Maroon and Gold to six Big Ten team titles, including three straight from 2001-03, nine consecutive top-two conference finishes and three NCAA titles. He spent 16 years as the head assistant and retired in late 2008 to become Brock Lesnar’s full time coach.
Morgan brings with him loads of coaching experience as well as an elite wrestling pedigree. He is an essential part of what Brock Lesnar has needed to succeed in his short time in the sport.

Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros
http://cdn0.sbnation.com/imported_assets/642916/brock-lesnar-training-one_medium.jpg

"Comprido" is Lesnar’s jiu-jitsu coach. His nickname is Portuguese for "long." He is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under the Romero "Jacaré" Cavalcanti and is one of the rare few ever to win CBJJ Mundials Absolute division twice. He is well decorated in the sport, coming in at the very least third place at CBJJ World Championships since 1999 and taking second and first in the CBJJ Pan American Championships in 2002, 2004 and 2007.

"Comprido" started in jiu jitsu at five years old but also grew up in the art of Judo. Initially, Comprido did his training under Carlson Gracie, up until the legendary coach passed away. In his career, which has amassed over 500 grappling matches, many consider him to be one of the more technical jiu-jitsu players around.

"Comprido" is a founding member of Team Brusa and is part of jiu-jitsu instructional videos with fellow elite jiu-jitsu practioner Damian Maia.

Having "Comprido" on the team brings the tradional jiu-jitsu discipline to the team. He will be able to add in his submission prowess with the wrestling heavy background the other trainers in the camp bring to the table.

Peter Welch
http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/642919/peterwelch_medium.jpg

Welch is a former boxing coach for former lightweight title contender Kenny Florian. Welch aided in "Ken-Flo's" preparation for the Joe Stevenson fight but dates all the way back to Florian's time on TUF. Welch would later become the boxing coach for Brock Lesnar.

Before he was a coach, Welch was a Golden Gloves champion. He would amass a record of 5-0 as a professional before hanging it up to be an instructor. Welch has his own gym in Boston and has stayed true to his roots, training boxers throughout his coaching career.

Welch, has worked with Lesnar since his preparations for the Shane Carwin fight. He has always been confident in his efforts to improve Lesnar’s boxing skills.
Having a successful Golden Gloves boxer like Welch can only bring good things to guys who aren’t well versed in the stand-up game. Add in that Welch is already well experienced as a mixed martial arts coach who understands the mechanics and differences between MMA and boxing and it's full systems go.

Luke Richardson (*Not pictured)
http://cdn3.sbnation.com/imported_assets/642922/28786506e_medium.jpg

Richardson is the strength coach for the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars. He has been the strength and conditioning coach for Brock Lesnar his last two fights. Not much is known of Richardson’s success in mixed martial arts as of yet but he's been a member of the Jaguars since 2009.

The coach of said Jaguars, Jack Del Rio, has been quoted as saying his entire off-season was dedicated to the conditoning program of Luke Richardson, so it is safe to assume that if Richardson has the skills to hone an entire 53 man roster of professional football players, he should be able to handle a small group of mixed martial artists. He has been working with Lesnar since his fight with Shane Carwin,

which, if you remember, Brock was in tremendous shape and still full of energy, after the onslaught

"The Engineer" unleashed on him for the duration of the first round.
Lesnar's conditioning was the deciding factor in that fight. And if that can be attributed in any way to Richardson then it's safe to say, the dude knows what he's doing.
That wraps it up.
