Yahoo! Sports and Wrestling Observer contributor Dave Meltzer recently reported during his radio show that former UFC (http://www.fightline.com/fl/news/ufc-news/) heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (http://www.fightline.com/fl/profiles/85/brock-lesnar/) may not be long for the sport of MMA. (Props to The Underground) According to Meltzer, Lesnar has been reconsidering his MMA career following the first round TKO loss he endured at the hands of Cain Velasquez (http://www.fightline.com/fl/profiles/214/cain-velasquez/) this past October. Prior to that bout, Lesnar was manhandled by Shane Carwin (http://www.fightline.com/fl/profiles/185/shane-carwin/) throughout the first round before turning the tide against his winded opponent and earning a submission victory in the second frame.
Several rumors have swirled since Lesnar posted the loss to Velasquez and most of them stem from an awkward interaction the former WWE superstar had with professional wrestler "The Undertaker" immediately following that loss which was caught on tape while "The Undertaker" was giving an interview to MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani. It seemed as though "The Undertaker" was trying to initiate an altercation with Lesnar, and it was later rumored that the two were planning to drum up interest for a future wrestling match under the WWE banner.
Meltzer reports that Lesnar, who returned this year from over a year-long layoff which was forced after he endured a life-threatening bout with diverticulitis, has lost all motivation to compete in MMA and has not spoken with UFC President Dana White (http://www.fightline.com/fl/profiles/197/dana-white/) or anyone involved with Zuffa, LLC. since his loss to Velasquez.
According to Meltzer, Lesnar has not returned to the gym since the loss and is actively looking to compete at the next "WrestleMania" for an easy multi-million dollar payday.
Whether or not any of this is true remains unknown, but the notoriously reclusive Lesnar has not issued any statements to the contrary--not that he would if Meltzer's statements were incorrect--and the rumors concerning his desire to return to professional wrestling have persisted since his loss to Velasquez.
One thing that could point to the contrary is the fact that a heavily rumored bout between Frank Mir (http://www.fightline.com/fl/profiles/101/frank-mir/) and Brendan Schaub was recently scrapped in favor of a bout between Schaub and Stefan Struve, freeing Mir for a previously rumored The Ultimate Fighter coaching stint opposite Lesnar, which would lead into their rubber match.
Lesnar has one fight left on his current UFC contract.
