Junior Dos Santos: 12 wins / 1 loss

JDS is geen onbekende meer in het mma wereldje, met winst partijen tegen Gabriel Conzaga, Stefan Sturve, CroCop en Roy Nelson is hij de #1 Contender voor de HW belt. Hij zal deze proberen te behalen door de huidige champ Cain Velasquez te verslaan. Dit kan nog even duuren want onlangs gaf Cain aan geopereerd (http://www.mixfight.nl/forum/showthread.php?110628-Cain-Velasquez-6-tot-8-maanden-out-door-blessure&highlight=velasquez) te worden aan zijn schouder.
Junior Cigano heeft in zijn mma pro carriere maar 1 verlies partij op zijn naam staan.
De partij werd in 2007 gevochten in Brazilie tegen Joaquim Ferreira - een tegenstander waarvan Dos Santos eerder al van wist te winnen.

Hij wil nu een interim titleshot omdat Cain geblesseerd is. Leuk idee, maar wie wordt de andere kandidaat?
Outside of Cain Velasquez (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Cain-Velasquez-19102) himself, no one was more impacted by the news of his shoulder injury than the No. 1 for his UFC heavyweight championship.
Deep in training for an anticipated matchup with Velasquez, possibly at UFC 129 (http://www.sherdog.com/events/UFC-129-TBA-15483) in Toronto, Junior dos Santos (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Junior-dos-Santos-17272) will instead have to wait until late summer for a crack at the champion. While he would welcome the chance to face Velasquez at UFC “Rio” (http://www.sherdog.com/events/UFC-UFC-Rio-15454) in Brazil in August, dos Santos made clear his desire to fight for an interim title while the American Kickboxing Academy standout heals from his injury.
“Of course, it would be amazing to face Velasquez at UFC ‘Rio’ in August, but I cannot stay away from the Octagon for a year just waiting for him to recover,” dos Santos told Sherdog.com. “I really think that the fairest thing to do would be for [UFC President] Dana [White] to give me the opportunity to fight for an interim belt. I’m 100 percent focused on getting this belt.”
Velasquez captured the title in a rousing first-round technical knockout against former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Brock Lesnar (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Brock-Lesnar-17522) at UFC 121 (http://www.sherdog.com/events/UFC-121-Lesnar-vs-Velasquez-14039) in October. Dos Santos was understandably disappointed when word of the undefeated champion’s injury reached his ear.
“This is the worst news I could have,” dos Santos said.
Dos Santos, on a seven-fight winning streak, has not competed since he earned a unanimous decision over “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Roy-Nelson-10249) at UFC 117 (http://www.sherdog.com/events/UFC-117-Silva-vs-Sonnen-13310) in August. Nearly five months later, he finds himself without an opponent and uncertain as to what the immediate future holds for him.
“I’m in the best moment of my career, training hard and working so hard to reach the fight of my life, and, suddenly, it’s postponed eight months. It’s definitely not fair,” he said. “I’m already five months away from fighting. I can’t wait eight months.”
The 26-year-old Brazilian hopes another opportunity will present itself in the meantime.
“Fighting is my life, not only because I love to do that but because I need to fight for a living,” dos Santos said. “I still don’t make money like the other top guys, so I really need to work.”
In the interim, dos Santos plans to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to help train UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Anderson-Silva-1356) for his scheduled title defense against Vitor Belfort (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Vitor-Belfort-156) at UFC 126 (http://www.sherdog.com/events/UFC-126-Silva-vs-Belfort-15104) in February. He has trained with both men in the past and provided some insight into the Silva-Belfort showdown.
“I’ve already trained with both and can predict that it will be an amazing fight,” dos Santos said. “Vitor is more explosive and open, while Anderson is more intelligent and brings the opponent into his game. I would say that it’s 60 percent for Anderson and 40 percent for Belfort.”

Nelson vecht voorlopig even niet (contract issues). Carwin heeft (nog?) een blessure. Maar verder ben ik het met je eens, het levert een kwalitatief betere champ op als de partij tussen JDS en Cain gaat, op dit moment gewoon de 2 beste twee UFC heavyweights.

dat vindt ik wel mee vallen, het is toch logisch dat er niet veel contenders voor de titel zijn.... zou raar zijn als ze Struve, Madsen, McCorkle of andere HW's zouden laten knokke voor de belt.... daarom denk ik dat er geen interm titel gevecht komt..
zijn er nog ergens voorwaarden aan gebonden om een interim gevecht in te lassen..? Hoe lang moet bijv iemand uit de running zijn willen ze zoiets opstarten..

Junior Dos Santos had expected to get a UFC Heavyweight Title shot against Cain Velasquez in April but with a shoulder injury forcing Velasquez to ride the pine for up to 8 months, Dos Santos got left out in the cold when it comes to when his next fight will be.
The Brazilian talked about his situation with Sherdog.com and gave his thoughts on what will be next for him:
"Of course, it would be amazing to face Velasquez at UFC ‘Rio’ in August, but I cannot stay away from the Octagon for a year just waiting for him to recover. Partij'tje tegen Frank Mir dan maar?

Nee ik heb Cigano altijd een topper gevonden en ik denk serieus dat hij beter is dan Cain.......

als je kijkt hoe vaak Nelson hem wist te taggen in hun partij baart mij zorgen...
Frank Mir een titleshot geven zou wel echt beroerd zijn. Ben helemaal geen fan van Mir, en daarnaast heeft hij geen fatsoenlijke tegenstanders verslagen de laatste tijd(o ja..een zieke big Nog en een Cro Cop zonder vuur in z'n ogen).
Dan kan je beter Struve of Jon Madsen een title shot geven.
Beste optie blijft natuurlijk Nelson, hopelijk kunnen ze die contract issues oplossen.

pff Mir wordt gesloopt door JDS, Brock zien we denk ik niet meer terug in de UFC en is er nou al wat meer bekend van Carwin en die doping aantijgingen. Ik vindt de HW divisie in de UFC altijd er tof maar ik denk inderdaad dat ze toch een beetje een probleem hebben....
Als ik kijk naar de plannen van SF met hun 8 mans HW toernooi ( laten we eerst maar even kijken of het gaat lukken ) met namen als Overeem, Fedor, Barnett, Werdum, Arlosvki en Rogers dan zou dat wel enorm vet zijn.
