The grudge match will have to wait. So will Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/Jon+Jones/)' first title defense.

A hand injury has knocked the new UFC light-heavyweight champion out of action for the time being, leaving the UFC without a main event for its upcoming return to Philadelphia in August. As a result, the promotion has booked a fight pitting Jones' scheduled opponent Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/Rashad+Evans/) against rising star Phil Davis (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/Phil+Davis/).

The UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) fight was confirmed by the UFC on Monday morning. It was first reported by the Canadian Press (http://twitter.com/#%21/CdnPress_MMA/status/62553606116745216).

The full extent of Jones' injury and his rehabilitation time is not yet known, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, though it is believed to be a torn ligament. The uncertain timetable was a key factor in the change.

Evans (15-1-1) has not fought since last May when he defeated Quinton "Rampage" Jackson via unanimous decision. Afterward, he was supposed to fight Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, choosing to wait for Rua to recover from knee surgery to fight him. As Rua neared healthy though, Evans suffered an injury of his own. He was replaced in the fight by Jon Jones, who knocked out Rua to become the youngest UFC champion ever.

As members of Team Greg Jackson, Evans and Jones had originally promised never to face each other, but that bond fractured even before Jones won the belt. In the weeks since, Evans left his longtime camp of Team Jackson and the two have traded barbs online.

The friendship turned into a grudge match, but Jones' injury will sideline it at least for the time being. The UFC has yet to announce whether Davis would become the No. 1 contender with a win over Evans.

The unbeaten Davis is 9-0, and most recently defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via unanimous decision at a Fight Night event in March.

UFC 133 takes place on August 6 at the Wells Fargo Center.

Gebroken hand week of 6?

Sources: Injury Forces Phil Davis Out of UFC 133 Main Event

Phil Davis (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/PhilDavis/) has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) main event fight against Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) due to a knee injury, MMA Fighting (http://www.mmafighting.com/) has learned from sources. No word just yet on who, if anyone, Evans will now fight on the Aug. 6 card. UFC officials could not be reached for comment on Tuesday evening.

According to sources, the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) is expected to announce Davis' injury and the new UFC 133 main event in the coming hours.

UFC 133 takes place at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Davis (9-0) recently defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC Fight Night in March. The win improved his UFC record to 5-0.

Evans (15-1-1) hasn't competed due to various reasons since he beat Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 114 in May 2010.

The current UFC 133 co-main event features Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Tito Ortiz Turns Down Opportunity for Rematch With Rashad Evans

With the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) on the hunt for a replacement for the injured Phil Davis (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/phil/davis/1189/), they turned to Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) first.

And Ortiz said no.

The news comes straight from UFC president Dana White, who responded to a text from MMA Fighting about Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/)' likely UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) opponent by saying that Machida had not yet agreed to the fight, and Ortiz had declined the opportunity.

"Tito turned it down," he told MMA Fighting.

Ortiz is coming off his first win in nearly five years, defeating Ryan Bader (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ryan/bader/503/) via first-round guillotine choke at UFC 132 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+132/) on July 2.

An Ortiz-Evans fight would have been a rematch of their September 2007 fight, which ended in a controversial draw. Ortiz has previously said he hoped to have a chance to face Evans again, but with less than four weeks to prepare, he declined the opportunity.

The search continues for an opponent for Evans. White told MMA Fighting that the UFC would offer the fight to Machida, but he would be faced with the same reality: fighting on short notice.

A Machida vs. Evans fight at UFC 133 would also be a rematch; they first squared off at UFC 98, with Machida knocking out Evans in the second round to capture the UFC light-heavyweight championship.

For now, Evans remains alone, waiting for an opponent to accept the fight.

As first reported by MMA Fighting (http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/07/12/sources-injury-forces-phil-davis-out-of-ufc-133-main-event/), Davis was knocked out of the August 6 main event in Philadelphia after suffering a knee injury.

EVANS VS MACHIDA WORDT HET OOK NIET;

Multiple published reports from Brazilian news organizations suggest that UFC 133 headliner Rashad Evans is still without an opponent after Lyoto Machida declined the opportunity to fight at the Aug. 6 event on short notice.

Both Esporte and Clic RBS quoted Machida's wife Fabyola, who said that the former UFC light-heavyweight champion had decided against facing Evans with less than four weeks to prepare.

Unless Machida changes his mind, he'll be the second high-profile fighter to turn down the main event bout. Tito Ortiz also rejected a chance to step in for the injured Phil Davis.

Either fight would have been a rematch of a previous bout.

Ortiz and Evans fought at UFC 73 in July 2007, with the pair fighting to a draw. At the time, it was Evans' first step up to top-level competition. By the time he and Machida fought at UFC 98, he was the newly crowned champion. But Machida ended his reign before a successful title defense, knocking him out in the second round.

Because of his previous win over Machida, it was thought that he would be more likely to accept the fight, but it turns out that time worked against the possibility.

"He decided he would not be able to prepare in just three weeks," his wife Fabyola told Esporte. "It was very short notice and has a number of factors that need to be analyzed. So he decided he will not fight."

Rashad Evans vs. Tito Ortiz II official for UFC 133 Main Event

[/URL]

Nearly 24 hours after [URL="http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/Phil-Davis"]Phil Davis (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/UFC) was forced out his UFC 133 (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/UFC-133) bout against Rashad Evans (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/Rashad-Evans), the hunt for a replacement has come to its conclusion.

UFC President Dana White has announced via Twitter that the August 6th main event from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania will feature Rashad Evans (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/Rashad-Evans) vs. Tito Ortiz (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/Tito-Ortiz) after all.

"The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" had intially refused the fight, citing poor timing as his reason for declining (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/UFC/Tito-Ortiz-explains-why-he-turned-down-the-fight-against-Rashad-Evans-at-UFC-133-13245). However, after Lyoto Machida also turned down the match-up (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/UFC/Lyoto-Machida-declines-to-step-in-against-Rashad-Evans-at-UFC-133-13248), leaving the promotion short on options, it appears the UFC veteran has had a change of heart.

Ortiz (16-8-1) comes into the bout riding high off of his recent career-saving submission victory over top prospect Ryan Bader (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/Ryan-Bader) at UFC 132 (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/UFC-132). The win was the former champ's first in nearly five years, having dropped four out of his previous five outings. The string of defeats were interrupted by only a single draw, which came against Evans in their first meeting back at UFC 73 in 2007.

Evans (15-1-1), meanwhile, will step into the octagon for the first time since defeating Quinton "Rampage" Jackson more than a year ago. The victory was his tenth under the UFC banner, with his lone career loss coming against Lyoto Machida (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/Lyoto-Machida) in their 2009 title fight.

The once again complete UFC 133 (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/UFC-133) event is set to take place August 6th from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Evans vs. Ortiz II will headline the stacked card, while Rich Franklin (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/Rich-Franklin) and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (http://lowkick.blitzcorner.com/tags/UFC/Antonio-Rogerio-Nogueira) will go head to head in the co-main event.

Tito Ortiz looking to continue his “Cinderella story” against Rashad Evans

Tito Ortiz spoke to mmaweekly.com About how passionate he is for his support from fans and his love for the UFC:

“I made kind of a soft decision yesterday of saying I have to live a life, I’ve got to take care of my family at home, I have a business Punishment Athletics, I have a gym Punishment Training Center that’s doing really, really well right now, my nutrition line Punishment Nutrition that I just launched in July. I have so much business opportunities come about, but can I catapult this even more and continue this Cinderella story by taking this fight against Rashad Evans?

Hopefully everybody will be happy. I’m happy, my camp’s happy. The future will hold great things for me, and this Cinderella story is not over yet. The UFC has been my livelihood since day one, before the Fertittas even bought the company. I was the champion and my life and soul was the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

I’ve been one of the biggest promoters of the UFC, promoting it and help put it on the map, and thanks to all my fans who do support me. I’ve always wanted that fight against Rashad. He’s had a great camp, I’ve heard, over the last eight weeks or nine weeks. I know he hasn’t fought in over a year, and I really hope I make the right decision.”

Stepping into a fight with roughly 3 weeks away is a tough task. But with Rashad Evans not fighting in 15 months, he could have some ring rust.

July 14, 2011 – Heading into his last fight at UFC 132, Tito Ortiz had been as subdued as he’s ever been in his fight career, bypassing any sort of trash talking in favor of quietly doing what he had to do to get ready.
His career hung in the balance, Dana White was calling for his retirement, and nobody thought he had any shot at getting past Ryan Bader. By all accounts, everybody had stopped paying attention to Tito and for the first time in his career, he wasn’t out in the public eye clamoring for everyone’s attention.
Then he quietly went and proved all the naysayers wrong by handily defeating his much younger opponent by submission and showing everyone there is still some fight left in*”The Huntington Beach Bad Boy,” contrary to popular belief.
With that career-saving win behind him, the plan was for to continue regrouping, maybe take some time off before getting back into training en route to his next fight somewhere down the road.*As it turns out, there is no rest for the weary and *Tito will jump back into the cage sooner rather than later.
With Phil Davis pulling out of his planned UFC 133 showdown against Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida refusing to take the fight on short notice, Tito has agreed to step up and continue his Rocky Balboa comeback story versus Rashad Evan’s Clubber Lang in Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.
With this decision to take the fight on short notice likely seen as a great favor by the UFC brass, it is likely Tito will be back in the octagon after this fight, win or lose. But if WINS against the would-be #1 contender Evans, Tito could actually be in the UFC title hunt for the first time since facing “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell in December 2006.
A longshot? Maybe. But then again, nobody gave him a snowball’s chance in hell of beating Bader at UFC 132 either. Stranger things have happened.
“The future will hold great things for me, and this Cinderella story is not over yet,” Ortiz told MMAWeekly in a recent interview.
Maybe it’s time to start paying attention to Tito Ortiz again after all.

Vladimir Matyushenko Out, Matt Hamill In Against Alexander Gustafsson

For the second time this week, an injury has knocked a light heavyweight off the UFC 133 fight card. Dana White announced today that Vladimir "The Janitor" Matyushenko has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled fight against Swede Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson.

Stepping in for The Janitor will be fellow wrestler Matt "The Hammer" Hamill, who last faced Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in the main event of UFC 130. Hamill and Gustafsson have verbally agreed to the August 6 matchup.

Chael Sonnen, Chris Leben Asked to Fight Rashad Evans at UFC 133

As UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) President Dana White scrambled to find a replacement to step in and fight Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) in the UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) main event, he heard from two volunteers: Chael Sonnen (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chael/sonnen/296/) and Chris Leben (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/leben/414/).

White said on Thursday that after Phil Davis dropped out of the fight with Evans, he got texts from both Sonnen and Leben asking if they could step in. But White never seriously considered putting either one of them in the cage with Evans, since Evans is a light heavyweight and Sonnen and Leben are middleweights.

"Both said they wanted the fight. I told them both they weigh 185 pounds but thanks for texting," White said.

White said that the fighter who ended up taking the Evans fight, Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/), was the UFC's first choice to fill in for the UFC 133 main event, but that it took some time to get Ortiz to accept. The other fighter White contacted, Lyoto Machida (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/lyoto/machida/346/), initially expressed interest but later said he wanted more money to take a fight on short notice (http://mmafighting.com/2011/07/14/dana-white-lyoto-machida-demanded-more-money-tito-ortiz-didnt/).

Leben and Sonnen were the only two fighters who approached White about fighting Evans.

"Those were the only two," White said. "Two 185-pounders did it."

White said he wasn't sure what he would have done if Ortiz had turned down the fight, but one thing he never considered was dipping into the Strikeforce (http://www.mmafighting.com/strikeforce/) roster to find a light heavyweight replacement. And White hinted that he doesn't think the Strikeforce light heavyweight division is good enough to produce a legitimate opponent for Evans.

"That never crossed my mind," White said. "At 205 in Strikeforce, who would I grab who could come in and fight Rashad Evans?"

Dana White: Lyoto Machida Demanded More Money, Tito Ortiz Didn't

UFC President Dana White said on Thursday that the reason Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) -- rather than Lyoto Machida (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/lyoto/machida/346/) -- is fighting Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) at UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) is simple: Machida demanded a pay raise to take the fight, while Ortiz was willing to take the fight without renegotiating his contract first.

White sounded upset about his dealings with Machida, saying that Machida has been asking for a fight and initially agreed to take on Evans, but that his representatives later came back to White and told him Machida would only take the fight if he got a pay raise to pay him as much money as UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/anderson/silva/235/) makes.

"Lyoto Machida has been terrorizing me for a long time for a fight and saying he wanted a fight," White said, adding that when he first proposed the Evans bout to Machida, "He accepted the fight."

But when White talked to Machida's management, he was told, "If you pay us Anderson Silva money we'll take this fight."

"I opted not to pay him Anderson Silva money and told him, 'When you accomplish all the things Anderson Silva has accomplished, we'll pay you Anderson Silva money.'"

"Lots of crazy things happen in this business," White said. "Usually when stuff like that happens you know the guys it's going to happen with ... I did not expect that from Lyoto Machida."

Ortiz, however, was willing to fight Evans without any negotiation.

"Tito did not ask for any more money," White said. "People were asking, 'Did he go for more money?' Tito didn't get any more money. He didn't get anything. He had the same deal, a regular fight, we called him up and said, 'Tito, this is your next fight.'"

If Ortiz could do the unthinkable and follow his upset victory over Ryan Bader (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ryan/bader/503/) with an upset of Evans, White says Ortiz could be close to challenging for the light heavyweight belt, eight years after he lost that belt to Randy Couture (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/randy/couture/27/).

"Tito is stepping up and he's taking a big fight on short notice, and I respect that," White said. "It would definitely put Tito in the mix. I wouldn't say he's necessarily the No. 1 contender after this fight, but he's Top 3."

The game of musical chairs that has become UFC 133 continued late Saturday night.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been forced out of his fight with Rich Franklin. UFC president Dana White announced the news about "Little Nog" on Twitter late Saturday night and said the UFC was working on a replacement to face Franklin.

According to the Brazilian website Tatame, a shoulder injury in training is what has Nogueira (19-5, 2-2 UFC) shut down.

Earlier this week, Phil Davis had to bow out of his main event fight against Rashad Evans. Tito Ortiz turned down the chance to fill in on short notice, and Lyoto Machida did the same. Ortiz then reconsidered and took the fight. And Davis was only in the fight to begin with because light heavyweight champion Jon Jones pulled out of a planned first title defense against Evans.

Also this week, Vladimir Matyushenko pulled out of his fight with Alexander Gustafsson and was replaced by Matt Hamill. The event has also seen several other changes on the preliminary card.

Franklin (28-6, 1 NC, 13-5 UFC) will now await a possible new opponent for the Aug. 6 card, which will take place in Philadelphia. Franklin is 2-3 in his last five fights, but they all have come against fellow legends of the sport. He has suffered losses to Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort and Forrest Griffin. But his two wins, against Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell, have both won fight night bonus awards.

Nogueira would have been trying to end a two-fight skid after unanimous decision losses to Ryan Bader at UFC 119 and Davis earlier this year at Fight Night 24's main event. At UFC 114, Nogueira beat Jason Brilz by split decision in what many considered to be one of the year's biggest robberies.

UFC 133 now includes a rematch between Evans and Ortiz, Franklin against an unknown opponent and Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama. The main card airs live on pay-per-view at 9 p.m. Eastern and will be preceded by a pair of fights on Spike TV at 8 p.m.

With Antonio Rogerio Nogueria Out, Rich Franklin Also Pulled From UFC 133

UFC 133 has become one of the more injury-riddled cards in recent memory.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/antonio-rogerio/nogueira/797/) had to pull out with an injury, which the UFC announced Saturday (http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/07/17/antonio-rogerio-nogueira-out-of-ufc-133-rich-franklin-awaits-ne/). And that will now mean his opponent, Rich Franklin (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rich/franklin/220/), will be off the card altogether. The UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) made the announcement Sunday afternoon.

Nogueira-Franklin was scheduled to be the co-main event of the Aug. 6 show in Philadelphia. But with apparently no opponent available to fight Franklin on three weeks notice, the UFC was forced to scratch the former middleweight champion, as well. In its place, a middleweight fight between Vitor Belfort (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/vitor/belfort/295/) and Yoshihiro Akiyama (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/yoshihiro/akiyama/914/) has moved up a spot on the card to co-main status.

With a spot open on the main card, the UFC said a welterweight fight between Dennis Hallman (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dennis/hallman/250/) and Brian Ebersole (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/brian/ebersole/1209/), who have 129 career professional fights between them, will be moved to the televised pay-per-view.

The original main event of UFC 133, the promotion's first trip to Philadelphia since UFC 101, was to be Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/)' first light heavyweight title defense, and it was to come against former friend and training partner Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/). But Jones pulled out soon after the fight was announced, expecting to need hand surgery.

Evans took a fight with Phil Davis (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/PhilDavis/) on the card. Jones subsequently elected to pass on the surgery and took a fight with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/QuintonRampageJackson/) in September. Last week, Davis pulled out of his fight with Evans with an injury and was replaced by the suddenly relevant again Tito Ortiz.

Also last week, Vladimir Matyushenko pulled out of a light heavyweight fight against Alexander Gustafsson and was replaced by Matt Hamill.

UFC 133 will take place at the Wells Fargo Center. Aside from the pay-per-view, which starts at 9 p.m. Eastern on Aug. 6, there will be a pair of fights on Spike TV starting at 8 p.m. Eastern – Hamill-Gustafsson and Mendes-Rani Yahya. And once again, for the seventh straight event, the unaired prelims will be streamed live on Facebook.

Dana White Doesn't Rule Out Tito Ortiz as No.1 Contender With a UFC 133 Win

The UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) light-heavyweight championship fight between title-holder Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/) and challenger Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/quinton/jackson/348/) doesn't take place for another two months, but everyone already wants to know who's on deck for the fighter who emerges with the strap.

During a Tuesday press conference in Denver to officially announce the fight headlining UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/), UFC president Dana White confirmed that if Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) beats Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) at August 6's UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/), he'll be the next man to challenge for gold. That decision seems quite logical. But what happens if Ortiz pulls off his second straight upset?

While White stopped short of saying Ortiz would get a title shot for beating Evans, he also didn't rule it out.

"I don't know," White said. "It's tough one. He beats [Ryan] Bader (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ryan/bader/503/) who was ranked, I think 7 or 8. Then he comes back and beats the guy ranked No. 1? I don't know. It's a tough question. Some would say Tito. Some would say he probably has to beat one other guy. I don't know. We'll figure that out when it happens."

The fact that we're even discussing the remote possibility of Ortiz in another title match would have seemed ludicrous just a few weeks ago, when he was mired in a winless streak that stretched back to October 2006.

But at UFC 132 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+132/), as a massive underdog, he upset Bader via submission in just 1:56. A win over Evans would be even more surprising. Though the pair fought to a draw back in July 2007, Evans has gone 5-1 since then, including a run as the UFC champion.

Paul Bradley vs. Rafael Natal Slated for UFC 133

Rafael Natal will remain on the UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) card after all, and his new opponent will be former TUF cast member Paul Bradley (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/paul/bradley/1416/), according to sources close to the event.

Hours after Alessio Sakara (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/alessio/sakara/448/)'s injury forced the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) to -- once again -- shuffle the card, the organization decided (http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/07/25/jorge-rivera-confirms-injury-to-ufc-133-opponent-awaits-replace/) to match up Natal's original opponent, Constantinos Philippou (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/constantinos/philippou/1781/), against Jorge Rivera (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jorge/rivera/157/) and signed Bradley to fight "Sapo."

Bradley (16-2, 1 NC) has won his last three in a row while bouncing around different organizations. He lost to Strikeforce (http://www.mmafighting.com/strikeforce/) middleweight contender Luke Rockhold (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/luke/rockhold/1294/) on a Challengers show last February.

A cast member of the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter, Bradley had to leave the show early after suffering from a breakout of Herpes Gladiatorum, which was an infectious rash on his neck.

Natal (12-3-1) is 0-1-1 in the UFC. He was supposed to fight Sakara at UFC Live on Versus 3 but a knee injury forced him out of the bout.

UFC 133, headlined by Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) vs. Tito Ortiz, airs on Aug. 6 from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Jorge Rivera Confirms Injury to Sakara, Will Now Face Philippou

The UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) is on the hunt for a new UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) opponent for Jorge Rivera (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jorge/rivera/157/), after his scheduled foe Alessio Sakara (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/alessio/sakara/448/) was injured in training.

Rivera confirmed the shakeup on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour, saying that he got the call at 11:30 a.m. ET.

"I thought it was a joke," he said. "I couldn't believe it."

Rivera's shock came due to the history between the men, as this is the third proposed fight between the duo that has had to be scuttled due to injury.

The first bout was supposed to happen at UFC 118 in August 2010, but an arm injury forced Rivera to withdraw. Then, it was rescheduled as the co-main event of UFC 122. On the day of the fight, Sakara came down with flu-like symptoms and could not compete, scrapping the bout.

This time, it's a knee injury that has scratched the seemingly cursed matchup.

Rivera said that he believes the UFC will match him with Constantinos Philippou (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/constantinos/philippou/1781/), who made his organizational debut on short-notice at UFC 128, losing a decision to Nick Catone (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/nick/catone/464/). Philippou is already scheduled to be on UFC 133, against Rafael Natal.

Rivera said that he believes Philippou would make for a good style matchup and exciting fight, even if he will have to do some last-minute homework to prepare for an unexpected foe.

"I don't need the excitement, to be honest," he said. "It's coming and I'm sure he'll be pumped. He's going from the undercard to main card, fighting a bigger name. He'll come ready to fight. But this keeps me on my toes. I just want to have a good fight and give the fans something to cheer about and get excited about."

UPDATE: The UFC has since confirmed Philippou as Rivera's new opponent.

In his last fight, Rivera suffered a second-round TKO at the hands of Michael Bisping (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/michael/bisping/368/). Afterward, Rivera seemed to entertain the possibility of retirement, but he said on Monday that he would take a cautious approach to his future

"Honestly what I was saying is I live day-to-day," he said. "If I were to get smashed I'd contemplate it. If I smash him, I'll take the next fight and keep rolling. I'm not going to make rash decisions ahead of time. We'll see how it goes."

Tito Ortiz Involved In Car Accident, UFC 133 Main Event Still On

The injury stricken UFC 133 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/74507/ufc-133-evans-vs-ortiz) card almost claimed another victim today. Tito Ortiz (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122519/tito-ortiz) crashed his Rolls Royce Phantom, but luckily, the 'Huntington Beach Bad Boy' came out unscathed. TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2011/07/25/tito-ortiz-rolls-royce-phantom-crash-car-expensive/) reported on the crash:
UFC fighter Tito Ortiz -- and his super-expensive Rolls Royce Phantom -- were involved in a 3-car collision in Costa Mesa, CA this weekend ... and while no one was hurt, Tito says he cried anyway.
It all went down near a Denny's restaurant Sunday afternoon. It's unclear who was at fault, but Tito was seen shaking hands with one of the people involved in the wreck moments after the collision.

http://cdn3.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/1639539/0725-tito-car-subasset_large.jpg

Tito Ortiz tweeted about the accident shortly after:

I cried a little because its my favorite car but it will be new n no time.

Alessio Sakara Explains Knee Injury That Forced Him Out of UFC 133

Alessio Sakara (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/AlessioSakara/) released a statement Tuesday morning explaining the knee injury that forced him to pull out of his UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC133/) fight against Jorge Rivera (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/JorgeRivera/) less than two weeks before the fight.

"I tried to ignore the pain until now, thinking I had just sprained the knee," he said. "I kept training without using my legs. I wanted to get to the fight in a good condition somehow, but the MRI diagnosed that I broke my ligaments, and now I can't fight!

"I apologize to all my supporters. Please remember that I am a fighter and that I want to fight for all my life. But now, I must wait until I am fully healed before I can fight again. I hope you all understand."

This marks the third time in a row that a scheduled fight between Sakara and Rivera has been canceled.

First, a proposed UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) 118 fight was scrapped after Rivera pulled out due to a broken arm. Then Sakara was forced to withdraw just hours before their UFC 122bout after succumbing to flu-like symptoms. And on Monday, Rivera informed The MMA Hour (http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/07/25/jorge-rivera-confirms-injury-to-ufc-133-opponent-awaits-replace/) audience that a Sakara knee injury had once again called off the fight.

"I thought it was a joke," Rivera said. "I couldn't believe it."

As a result, Rivera will now face Costantinos Philippou on the UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) pay-per-view card.

Sakara (15-8, 1 NC) is coming off a loss to Chris Weidman (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/weidman/1769/) in March. Prior to that defeat, the 29-year-old Italian had won three in a row. No word on how long he will be sidelined for due to the knee injury.

UFC 133, headlined by Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) vs. Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/), airs live on pay-per-view on Aug. 6 from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia

Tito Ortiz Shows True Colors Inviting Wounded Soldiers to UFC 133 Training Camp

Many people have gotten wrapped up in Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/)'s comeback story over the last couple weeks, and it's probably safe to assume he'll have a solid cheering section at his upcoming UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) bout with Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/). But it wasn't too long ago that Ortiz was the guy you loved to hate, a brash and outspoken ex-champ who provoked scorn with whatever came out of his mouth.

Ortiz though, seems to be doing everything he can to put the old version of Tito behind. Case in point? How about what he's doing right now?

Ortiz may be in the midst of the most important training camp he's had in years, and even given the abbreviated training cycle of a short-notice fight, he's taken the time to invite in wounded U.S. war veterans to train with him.

As part of a non-profit program called Rehabbing with the Troops (http://www.woundedwarriorarena.org/ssp/partners), 10 service members traveled to Ortiz's Punishment Training Center in Huntington Beach, California for one week to workout with him.

The aim of the program is highlight the potential of the troops, all of whom are recovering from severe injuries suffered in combat. One of those, Army veteran Chris Miller, suffered a traumatic brain injury while serving in Iraq.

"The biggest thing for me is trying to change to a new life that wasn't the way it was before," Miller told ABC Los Angeles (http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/orange_county&id=8273927). "So, learning a lot of things over again, trying to learn what I'm capable of."

Working with U.S. troops has always been a cause near to Ortiz's heart. Working with the USO and Armed Forces Entertainment, he's visited troops around the world multiple times.

Even given Ortiz's previous level of commitment to helping men and women in service, he's gone above and beyond the call of duty by inviting them in during what is surely a hectic and massively important time in his professional career.

Rashad Evans: 'I Don't Like Jon Jones'

It was inevitable. With two light heavyweight contenders squaring off at UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/), you knew somebody would have to ask Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) and Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) about the current UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) 205-pound champion, Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/).

You also knew that, one way or another, Evans might have some strong feelings on his former training partner and teammate. Of course, that didn't mean he was in any hurry to express those feelings, or expand on them.

On Thursday's UFC 133 media call, Evans at first attempted to deflect the question by deferring to Ortiz and then, after Ortiz answered, claiming not to remember what the initial question was.

Eventually, however, his true feelings came out.

"I don't like Jon Jones," Evans said. "I'll just leave it at that."

This, from the man who Jones once described as a big brother figure who he'd never turn against. That changed after Jones said in an interview that he'd fight Evans if UFC president Dana White asked him to, and soon enough the two had a public rift that has left both men with very little fellow feeling for the other.

"I just don't like him," Evans said.

Ortiz, on the other hand, had a different take.

While it might seem bizarre to talk about him as a potential future challenger for Jones' title -- less than a month ago Ortiz was one loss away from being fired from the UFC -- now that Ortiz has stepped up and agreed to the short-notice bout with the former number one contender Evans, he could force himself into title discussion with a win in Philadelphia.

If Jones retains his title against "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/) in September, that might possibly match the 24-year-old champ against the 36-year-old Ortiz in the near future.

"Jon Jones, I think he's an amazing champion," Ortiz said. "I think he's great, I hung out with him once in Vegas at the [UFC fighter] summit and I think he's a cool cat. As a competitor, he's fast, punches awkward, great wrestling ability. He's a big threat. That's why he's the world champion, and I have some work cut out for me. I'm very excited and challenged to do that, but before anybody I've got to fight Rashad."

It wasn't so long ago that Evans had the next crack at Jones all but sewn up, but an injury to the champion forced Evans to take a bout with Phil Davis (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/phil/davis/1189/) in the interim, and an injury to Davis opened the door for Ortiz to step in.

And despite his own previously shaky standing in the UFC, Ortiz said, that puts the pressure to win squarely on Evans.

"It's his time to shine. All the pressure's on him, it's his time to shine. He's supposed to beat Tito Ortiz. I'm here to show why I am still here, and I've been here since 1997. I ain't going anywhere any time soon."

Even After Expensive Wreck, Tito Ortiz Never Considered Pulling Out of UFC 133

Though the news must have given UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) president Dana White quite a scare, Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) said he wasn't at all injured in the recent car accident that left his Rolls Royce Phantom with some front end damage, and pulling out of his bout with Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) at UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) afterward was never a thought.

"No, not even a doubt," Ortiz said on Thursday's media call. "You've got to understand, I did the Long Beach Grand Prix and I crashed four times. I was hitting walls. ...On my honeymoon in my first marriage I got hit by a bus doing 30, and I fought and defended my world title against Yuki Kondo (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/yuki/kondo/242/) literally four months later. Stuff like that doesn't hurt me. I think what hurts is just the repetition of training."

Photos of the damage to his extremely expensive car quickly made the rounds on the internet, but Ortiz said he suffered "zero" physical effects from the wreck.

"I rear-ended somebody," he explained. "It was a mistake on my part. I probably shouldn't have been paying attention to what I was paying attention to, and I looked up and -- bam -- I hit someone. And it was an expensive car. It was my bad. I was really, really bummed about it, but at the same time it can be paid for."

Ortiz said his greatest concern after the low-speed accident was his son, who was in the car with him, but said he also suffered no injuries other than getting "the wind knocked out of him."

News of Ortiz's safety must have been a relief for UFC officials after all the trouble they went to just to scrape up a short-notice opponent for Evans after Phil Davis (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/phil/davis/1189/) was forced out of the main event bout with an injury. Ortiz initially declined the offer to fight, he said, because he simply felt he had too much going on and not enough time to deal with it all.

"After I beat Bader I was on top of the world and I wanted to indulge in the glory," he said. "I took a week off. I came home, was relaxing, watching TV. Dana [White] gave me a call and I was with my family. I miss my family and I haven't been around that much just because of training. You put in six-hour days, six days a week, you're putting in hard work. When he first asked me I was like, no, I've got to take care of some stuff at home. I've got businesses with Punishment Nutrition, with my clothing company, my gym -- there's so much other business stuff where I've been planting the seeds and watering them so I can watch it grow, and I had to take care of that stuff."

But after talking with White, Ortiz said, the idea started to take root in his mind, and suddenly it didn't seem so bad after all.

"The fighter in me kind of doubted it, was like, maybe you should fight. You're in great shape. I never got touched. Sparring's been great, my wrestling's been really good. I'm strong. I have no injuries. My back and my neck have been awesome. It took me a minute to think about it. Of course I sat and I talked to [girlfriend] Jenna [Jameson]. I talked to my training partners, I talked to my coach, and we kind of just sat down and said, let's do this. Here's an opportunity that we're never going to have again."

Now Ortiz has gone from being one loss away from unemployment to being firmly in the good graces of the UFC. All it took was a willingness to say yes, and a physical resilience to car wrecks -- even the very, very expensive kind.

As Ortiz put it, "Thank God for insurance."

In First Fight Since Leaving Greg Jackson's, Questions Abound for Rashad Evans

When Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) stood on the floor of the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey in March and declared himself "done" with longtime trainer Greg Jackson (http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/03/20/rashad-evans-im-done-with-greg-jacksons-gym/), it was difficult to tell how seriously we were supposed to take that.

His former Jackson camp teammate and training partner, Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/), had only moments earlier claimed the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) light heavyweight belt in a title shot that was originally supposed to belong to Evans, so the wound was still fresh. But what would happen to Evans if he really did turn his back on the coaches that had taken him from a contender to a UFC champ?

It's taken several months and a few different opponents, but on Saturday night at UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) we'll get our answer. As Evans prepares to step into the Octagon without Jackson behind him for the first time in years, the picture he paints of his new life in a new gym -- Imperial Athletics in Boca Raton, Florida -- is as rosy as you'd expect from a guy who left his old home with a bitter taste in his mouth.

"When I came out here, I didn't really know how things were going to be. Coming from Greg Jackson's camp, I was just not thinking that there could be another situation that could rival that one," Evans said on the UFC 133 media call.

"But I was pleased to find out that things here are very good. I've got a great team, great training partners, and we've got this energy in the gym that's just amazing. When you have a gym that has great energy, and great training practices and it's just fun to be in, it makes the grind of training that much easier. It makes you grow that much more as an athlete because you don't mind putting in the extra time in the gym because it's fun to be there."

Of course, that's what we expect him to say. The fighter who has left his old team for a new one isn't about to go on at length about how miserable he is, like a kid calling his parents from summer camp and begging to come home.

But while Jackson remains one of the sport's most successful and most popular trainers, leaving his Albuquerque, New Mexico gym has its upsides for Evans, he said. For one thing, a popular trainer is a busy trainer, and there are only so many hours in the day for him to devote to each fighter. At his new gym, Evans can have a training camp that's centered more on his individual needs.

"When you get to a certain point, you really need a lot of time, and coaches that spend a lot of time with you and make sure you get the one-on-one, and you're just seeing different things," said Evans. "After being at Jackson's for a while, with so many people at the gym, it just got harder and harder for me to get that time. When you're in a situation like that, sometimes it gets a little bit stagnant. It's just one of those things where it's like, how am I to reinvent myself if I'm pretty much learning the same things and I'm not getting the time that I need? You kind of get stagnant in your learning and you kind of get a little bit disinterested."

At Imperial, Evans said, he has training partners from all over -- the team calls itself the "Blackzilians," he noted -- and with that comes "a freshness."

"That was the biggest part and that made the biggest difference in this camp," he added.

And maybe a change was necessary, since so much else has changed since the first time he fought Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/), a little over four years ago. He had Jackson in his corner that night, but what he didn't have was much big fight experience in the UFC.

He and Ortiz fought to a draw at UFC 73 after Ortiz was penalized a point for holding on to the fence to avoid a takedown, and the fight still seems to irk Evans when he thinks back on it.

"I felt horrible about the performance. I felt horrible about the performance for years. It's one of those fights you just want to get back. My inexperience at that level, I really didn't get my mind wrapped around the situation until it was a little bit too late, but I'm a long ways from that now."

And it's true, he is. There are several years and no shortage of career ups and downs for both Evans and Ortiz separating them from that night in Sacramento.

But just because things change doesn't always mean it's for the better. In his first fight since leaving the gym where he spent the bulk of pro career, it's hard to know how the move will ultimately affect Evans. Even he can't know for sure how it's going to feel to step in the Octagon, turn around to face his corner, and not see Jackson standing there.

The one thing he does know, it seems, is that his vow to leave Albuquerque for good wasn't just the kind of thing you say when you're hurt. He meant it, and he doesn't see himself changing his mind any time soon.

"Honestly, there's really no reason for me to go back," he said. "I think I've found training elsewhere better. It's nothing against Greg and those guys or the other guys at Jackson's, but at the same time if you find training better elsewhere, then why go backwards?"

Rashad Evans Not Buying 'Tito Is Back' Talk Heading Into UFC 133

PHILADELPHIA -- MMA Fighting spoke to Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) about his UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) fight against Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) on Wednesday. "Suga" talked about competing for the first time in 15 months, whether he had any regrets over the past year and a half, his thoughts on the "Tito is back" talk and whether he has anything to prove on Saturday night.

The 'Reinvention' of Tito Ortiz

PHILADELPHIA -- Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) hadn't even walked out of the cage following his loss to Matt Hamill (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/matt/hamill/284/) last October when his phone lit up with a text. On the other end of it was Ortiz's longtime friend and sometime boxing coach Jason Parillo, who had watched the fight from inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, not understanding what his eyes were seeing.

Parillo had worked with Ortiz long enough to know something wasn't quite right, and he wanted the chance to help correct it. So he shot off a text, and then he waited.

A return call would come in time, but the impetus for Ortiz to change his camp came not from the winless streak that stretched over years or from a text from a concerned friend. It came because of family. Not long earlier, Ortiz's girlfriend Jenna Jameson gave birth to twin boys. He also has another son from a previous relationship. Ortiz, who detailed a rough upbringing in his 2008 autobiography This Is Gonna Hurt, thought about how quickly his kids were growing and felt a desire to spend more time with them.

Over the previous years, Ortiz had taken his fight camps to Big Bear, California, where he imported coaches and training partners. Parillo was never a part of that. The two would work together when Ortiz was at home, then part ways when he departed for camp. The situation suited both men, but it also turned into a source of frustration for Parillo, who says he often saw his work undone by the time Ortiz got back into the cage.

That was what he felt watching UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) 121 in Anaheim.

"I was like, f---, what are you doing Tito?" Parillo told MMA Fighting. "He was just not fighting like the guy I've watched for so long. I've watched him fight from the beginning of his career, the way he was grinding guys. But that Hamill fight, what I saw was he was not a guy in there to win, he was just a guy in there to survive. I don't know if it was personal problems or injury issues, but he definitely wasn't there to win a fight."

Parillo's message was out of genuine concern. The two grew up nearby and have known each other for around 15 years.

As a longtime boxing coach -- he fought as a pro from 1998-2003, going 8-0 -- Parillo reasons that fighters need to trust the men tasked with guiding them. He knew that given their past, the partnership could work.

"When I hit him up that night after the Hamill fight, I was showing him love," Parillo said. "I was telling him, 'You can still fight. I believe it. You may believe in something but you're not believing in yourself.' We had to get him back to that."

Parillo said he didn't see any of the telltale signs of a washed-up fighter. Ortiz still had good reaction-time, his reflexes were strong. It was something else.

Ortiz now acknowledges that he let self-doubt creep in.

"I think I was reading too much negativity," he told MMA Fighting (http://www.mmafighting.com/). "Negativity from [UFC president] Dana [White], negativity from the fans. And I started believing them. Why? I don't need to believe that. Then I started switching things around, I got a new camp and the guys were so damn positive. I was like, You know what? I filled myself with such negativity. Why? Let's do positive, and see what I get out of it, and it's been one good thing after another."

The positive outlook was a big piece of his win over Ryan Bader (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ryan/bader/503/) at UFC 132 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+132/), he says. But he also credits all the new coaches around him.

Parillo worked on Ortiz's hands, spotlighting his angles, body positioning and balance, realizing it all works together to assist in his striking, standup defense, takedowns and sprawling.

It paid off against Bader when a punch they dubbed the "hookercut" (hook/uppercut hybrid) dropped him and led to the finish.

Working in concert with him was strength and conditioning coach Michael Giovanni Rivera and jiu-jitsu coach Ricardo Abreu. After years of neck and back problems, Ortiz says his health finally returned to normal, allowing him to regain some of the explosiveness that was the hallmark of his early days. He also added strength and power working with Rivera, taking his walkaround weight up to around 235 pounds. Rivera says that wasn't by design, but simply the result of Ortiz "doing the right things."

"He's very, very strong, a lot stronger than before," Rivera said. "How much more in shape he is, it's pretty incredible. He's bigger, he's stronger, more explosive and a lot of power."

The test of all their work will come on short notice, with Ortiz getting just three weeks to prepare for Evans, a fighter with whom he fought to a draw in 2007. Rivera says that will not be a problem, that Ortiz took minimal time off and has maintained his peak performance.

"It's my opinion that he's in better shape than he was for the Bader fight," Rivera said. "He's got fire in his eyes right now. Rashad is going to be real intimidated when he feels his strength and power, that's for sure. And Tito's not going to get tired, I guarantee that, 100 percent."

For his part, Ortiz called himself "reinvented," saying that he's been revitalized by new coaching staff and new training.

Evans, who called his first bout with Ortiz, his "coming-of-age fight," doesn't buy it.

"I'm going to make him feel old and slow," he said.

Ortiz tough, continues on, undeterred, aided by his new partnerships with old friends.

"I know who I am," he said. I'm a former world champion. No light-heavyweight ever defended their world title longer than I have or as many times as I have. In my mind, I know I'm one of the greatest. I know other people don't think that, but in my mind, I know I'm one of the greatest."

Rashad Evans Says Beating Tito Ortiz Now Doesn't Mean Much

PHILADELPHIA -- There was a time a few years ago when Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) was crushed he didn't get a rematch with Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) in a timely fashion. In fact, Evans said that at the time, the change in plan was so depressing, it affected part of his next training camp. But as time went on, Evans largely forgot about a fight he once greatly desired. As Ortiz struggled, Evans surged, eventually rising to the level of UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) light-heavyweight champion in 2008.

While Ortiz finally found the winning side of the ledger last month, Evans has steadily stayed near the top, and a win at Saturday's UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) will likely earn him a chance to once again fight for the title. But as far as Evans is concerned, that's about all there is to gain here. In his mind, Ortiz has no aura left and his physical skills have deteriorated, making a fight he once craved a simple roadblock on the way back to the title.

"Tito's not the same fighter he was," Evans said. "To me, in my mind, he lost the whole Tito Ortiz thing. He lost it. He hasn't been very consistent. Sometimes he'll look good, sometimes he looks bad. He fell from that level."

Asked if the win would mean as much as it would have meant four years ago, Evans shook his head.

"No," he said. "Not even close."

That doesn't mean that Evans doesn't have any motivation for the fight. After sitting on the sidelines since his win over Quinton "Rampage" Jackson last May, Evans is chomping at the bit to get back in the cage. He also wants to flash the new skills he's picked up working with a new set of coaches, and of course, there's the possibility of gold at the end of his rainbow.

Evans (15-1-1), who famously fought Ortiz to a draw in July 2007, says that match served as a coming-of-age moment for him. It was his first time in the spotlight, in a fight against someone with far more experience than he. He started slowly in that match, losing the first round before picking up steam as he went on. An Ortiz illegal fence grab sealed the draw as he had one point deducted from his score.

Evans took his lessons from the fight and says he has a good handle on what to expect from Ortiz the next time around. He says that between then and now, Ortiz has gotten noticeably worse at some aspects of the game.

"I don't think he's as quick as he used to be, and I don't think he's as explosive as he used to be," he said. "I think that you can see his age in that. The first thing to go when you get start getting older is footwork. And I think his footwork is a little slower than it was back then."

Evans was told that Ortiz recently said that being in Philly, he would make this moment his personal "Rocky" movie. Evans says Tito can say whatever he wants to get himself motivated, but he's still going to have to show up to fight, and there will be no director calling cut "so Rocky can win."

Despite the rematch not meaning quite as much to him as it would have a few years ago, Evans has the chance to put that draw behind him once and for all. Evans sounds like it's a foregone conclusion, like it's a fight that is just a space-holder in his career, rather than one against a former champion.

"I don't have any doubt," he said. "I know what I can do against Tito. Tito knows it. Tito's the one who has all the questions in my opinion, because he had the flash knockdown against Bader before he finished him off. I know he's thinking, 'Man, I wonder what would've happened if this fight would've went on?'"

Tito Ortiz KO's Rashad Evans in the first round. Het wordt wel een vage partij.

Kijken of ik gelijk krijg.

UFC 133 Weigh-In Results

PHILADELPHIA -- Four years after their first match ended in a draw, Tito Ortiz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tito/ortiz/234/) and Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) finally have a chance to determine the winner in a sequel that seemed destined never to happen.

Following Ortiz's stunner over Ryan Bader (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ryan/bader/503/) just one month ago, he's suddenly thrust into a situation where he can go from has-been to top contender in a flash. To do that, he'll have to beat Evans. The bout became official on Friday, when both UFC 133 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+133/) main event participants made weight at the Wells Fargo Center.

As expected, Ortiz was the bigger man, coming in at 205.8 pounds. Evans was 204.4.

The two shared a long stare after making their fight official, with Evans staring down Ortiz as he spoke to announcer Joe Rogan. After years of being the man fans love to hate, Ortiz was the favorite with the assembled crowd while Evans was booed.

"I feel great," Ortiz said. "I'm excited to take the fight. I thank Dana [White] for the opportunity. Rashad is a great freighter but I'm going to show him how much better I am tomorrow night."

Evans smirked and shook his head at the comment, embracing the villain role and telling the booing fans that they'd all want his autograph if he walked through the crowd. After a long layoff, Evans seems to be chomping at the bit to get back in the cage.

"Joe, I'm very excited," he said. "It's been 14 long months, but I've been working and getting better, and I can't wait to show the fans what I got."

Co-main event entrants Vitor Belfort and Yoshihiro Akiyama had one of the most civil staredowns ever, with the pair bowing to each other and shaking hands afterward. Belfort had almost a full pound on Akiyama, out-weighing him 185.4 to 184.6.

Akiyama, fighting for the first time since the natural disasters in Japan, had a message written on his chest which read, "United & Stand for Japan."

In another featured bout, 22-year-old welterweight phenom Rory MacDonald will look to take another step forward in his career coming off a spectacular win over Nate Diaz in April. He weighed in at 170.6 for the fight, while the veteran Pyle check in at 170.8.

Ivan Menjivar was the only fighter to miss weight, coming in two pounds over the bantamweight maximum limit of 136. He has two hours to lose the weight or forfeit a percentage of his purse to opponent Nick Pace.

UPDATE:Menjivar elected to take the fine rather than lose the remaining two pounds. His official weight for the fight is 138 pounds.
