View Full Version : Report: Maiquel Falcao cut by the UFC due to legal troubles

That Maiquel Falcao vs. Tom Lawlor fight that was recently booked for UFC 134: "Rio" on Aug. 27? Yeah, that's not going to happen.

That's because Falcao has been abruptly released by the promotion. This according to his manager, Marcelo Brigadeiro, who sent a letter to Tatame.com:

"We've received an e-mail from Joe Silva yesterday saying that the UFC decided to end Maiquel Falcão's contract. They decided to do that because of some legal problems Maiquel got involved recently. ... I'm already in talks with other national and international promotions and you will soon watch Maiquel in action again."

The legal issues Brigadeiro is referring to revolve around a recent arrest stemming from an assault charge of a woman outside a nightclub all the way back in 2002.

Details of Falcao's legal woes were shaky at best, but it appears his hang-ups were enough to cause the UFC to part ways with the talented but troubled Brazilian knockout artist.

Hij was laatst ook gearessteerd in Brazilie. Daar zal het misschien ook aan liggen.

Die arrestatie was met betrekking tot deze zaak van 9 jaar geleden.

Maar weer een mooi voorbeeld van met twee maten meten binnen de ufc....

Amerikaan Anthony "rumble" Johnson is namelijk hetzelfde gebeurd, en die vecht er natuurlijk nog wel.

"Johnson was sentenced to 3 years of court probation, and must serve 8 hours in community service at a local boy's club, as well as 1 day of county jail."

En dan nog, Johnson is ook schuldig bevonden, die vecht er toch ook nog?

Ik zeg toch niet dat Johnson onschuldig was bevonden maar Falcao werd in December Gearesteerd en z'n zaak loopt nog. Ik weet zeker als hij onschuldig wordt bevonden dat hij weer bij de UFC terecht komt.

According to Falcao's camp, the Brazilian was ordered to serve a 24-month house-arrest sentence. After eight months, Falcao moved to a new home, though his lawyer advised him that the Brazilian authorities would have no issue with him completing the sentence in a new location.

Back in December, Falcao returned to his hometown, as he reportedly has several times since 2002, but authorities elected to take him into custody.

Oke, het is dus gewoon een fraai staaltje bureaucratie, zie geen reden tot ontslag.

"Maiquel Falcao will continue to fight on, and we believe that this is only a temporary departure and Maiquel will once again be back inside the octagon," the rep stated. "We would like to thank the UFC for their support when Maiquel was arrested back in December 2010 and when he was out injured."

Echter de UFC betaald z'n vechters wel op tijd in tegenstelling tot Dream.

Ach. Ontslagen op verzoek van de contacten van UFC in brazil waarschijnlijk. Na 134 krijgt hij gewoon weer een contract.

Ik denk dat het ook heel veel onzin is.

De UFC hangt vaak dit soort verhaaltjes op waardoor het te maken zou hebben met het verleden/gedrag van een bepaalde vechter wanneer ze simpelweg alleen maar vragen om een hogere som geld.
