Shogun had rampage al gesloopt. Jon Jones heeft shogun gesloopt. Dus Jones gaat dubbel slopen.

TUF 13 Champ Tony Ferguson Back to Lightweight, Fights Aaron Riley at UFC 135

Tony Ferguson (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/TonyFerguson/), who won Season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/TheUltimateFighter/)" earlier this month, already has his next fight.

Ferguson, who beat Ramsey Nijem (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/RamseyNijem/) at the TUF 13 Finale (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/TUF13Finale/) in Las Vegas on June 4 with a first-round knockout, will face Aaron Riley (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/AaronRiley/) in a lightweight bout at UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC135/) on Sept. 24 in Denver. The UFC announced the fight booking on Twitter on Monday night.

Ferguson (11-2, 1-0 UFC) has won four straight fights, including his UFC debut victory over Nijem, which also netted him a $40,000 Knockout of the Night bonus to go along with his guaranteed UFC contract. That fight was at welterweight. Against Riley (30-12-1, 3-4 UFC), Ferguson will return to the lightweight division.

On Season 13 of TUF, Ferguson fought for coach Brock Lesnar's team. The three wins Ferguson had in the TUF house to reach the live finale were all knockouts or TKOs. Those those three fights are not official, if counted he has seven straight TKO or KO victories. After taping for the season finished, Ferguson trained at Lesnar's Death Clutch camp in Minnesota to prepare for his fight with Nijem.

Riley has been out of action for more than a year, since a unanimous decision win over Joe Brammer at UFC 114 in May 2010. Riley, an Indiana native, was expected to return at UFC 119 in Indianapolis last September, but pulled out of his fight with Pat Audinwood with an injury. When he returns in September, it will be after a 16-month layoff.

Riley, whose primary training home is with Greg Jackson's camp in Albuquerque, N.M., is in his third stint with the UFC. He was one-and-done with losses to Robbie Lawler at UFC 37 and Spencer Fisher at Fight Night 3. Since returning at UFC 91, Riley has gone 3-2, but hasn't put together consecutive wins. His three wins have all been by unanimous decision.

UFC 135 will take place at the Pepsi Center in Denver. It will be the promotion's first trip to Colorado since the first UFC on Versus event in March 2010, which took place in the north Denver suburb of Broomfield. The UFC hasn't been to Denver proper since UFC: The Ultimate Ultimate in December 1995. UFC 1 and UFC 2 also took place in Denver.

UFC 135 is expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones, making his first defense, and former champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Also on the card, Hall of Famer and former welterweight champion Matt Hughes will face former lightweight title challenger Diego Sanchez.

Mooie card, mooie poster.

Matt Hughes Accepts Fight With Replacement Josh Koscheck at UFC 135

After a few years of campaigning for a fight against Matt Hughes (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/matt/hughes/187/), an American Kickboxing Academy welterweight finally gets their chance.

Josh Koscheck (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/josh/koscheck/330/) will get the opportunity, after Hughes accepted Koscheck as a replacement for the injured Diego Sanchez (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/diego/sanchez/461/) at UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/).

According to Sanchez's management team, the 29-year-old welterweight broke his right hand in training, forcing him out of the bout.

On Monday, Koscheck said he'd accepted a spot to replace Hughes but was simply waiting on Hughes' approval of the fight and on Tuesday, he got it. It's a risky move for Koscheck, who hasn't fought since last December's title fight loss to Georges St-Pierre (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/georges/st-pierre/439/), but the California-based fighter is well known for being in fighting shape at all times.

Koscheck (15-5) has less than three weeks to prepare for the September 24 bout.

Hughes (45-8) has had an even longer layoff than Koscheck. He hasn't fought since last November, when he was knocked out by BJ Penn (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/bj/penn/361/). However, while he's been in training for Sanchez for well over a month now, Koscheck had entertained the notion of moving up to middleweight before taking this short-notice bout.

Koscheck and AKA teammate Jon Fitch (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/fitch/339/) had lobbied unsuccessfully in the past for the chance to face Hughes.

Josh Koscheck Talks Matt Hughes: 'Fans Deserved This Fight a Long Time Ago'

When Josh Koscheck (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/josh/koscheck/330/) first heard that there might be an opportunity to finally get a fight with former UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) welterweight champ Matt Hughes (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/matt/hughes/187/) after he'd long since given up lobbying for it, he didn't have to think too hard about his answer.

"Diego Sanchez (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/diego/sanchez/461/) broke his hand and I eventually got a phone call from [manager] 'Crazy' Bob Cook (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/bob/cook/561/) and he's like, 'Hey, you want to fight Matt Hughes?'" Koscheck said on Monday's UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/) media call. "I didn't even hesitate. I was like, when are we fighting him?"

What Koscheck didn't realize, he said, was that this was a late replacement fight. He'd been "so out of the loop" after coming back from a long layoff following an eye injury he suffered against Georges St-Pierre (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/georges/st-pierre/439/) that he didn't realize Hughes was supposed to fight Sanchez on September 24 in Denver, so he wasn't expecting to hear Cook tell him that the bout was just three weeks away.

But, Koscheck said, he'd taken enough time off already. For the man who considers himself "always two or three weeks away from being ready to fight," it was an offer he couldn't refuse.

"I was like, yep, let's do it," Koscheck said. "I'm in shape, let's go. I didn't hesitate to take the fight."

Koscheck hasn't set foot in the Octagon since losing a unanimous decision to St-Pierre in their five-round title fight at UFC 124. He suffered a broken orbital bone in that fight, thanks to an early jab from GSP, and the pain was even worse than when he'd accidentally severed his own toe at four years of age while "doing something I wasn't supposed to be doing with a hatchet," Koscheck said.

The pain of that experience "didn't compare to the eye injury," according to Koscheck, who added that he "got through it via pain pills and morphine that night."

"It was a fun experience, needless to say, that I don't want to go through ever again," he quipped.

That was a little over nine months ago, but Koscheck could have come back sooner, he said. He took a little extra time off to "focus on some other areas outside of fighting," and was planning to return at UFC 139 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+139/) in San Jose, possibly at middleweight in a rematch with Chris Leben (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/leben/414/) or even a bout against recent Leben knockout victim Wanderlei Silva (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/wanderlei/silva/275/).

"I was just looking for a big fight, and things happen for a reason," he said. "I texted Dana White the day of all the confusion with Diego breaking his hand and I said hey, it's your favorite son, Kos. Make sure I get that fight with Matt Hughes."

White did just that, apparently. After Hughes agreed to it, the fight that Koscheck had given up on was finally his, albeit after a long layoff from the sport and a short training camp to prepare.

If the timing is of any concern to Koscheck, however, you sure wouldn't know it.

"Fighting Matt Hughes is a good comeback fight for me," he said. "I think the fans deserved this fight a long time ago, and now we're getting the opportunity to do it."

Better late than never, perhaps. And after what he went through following the GSP fight -- not to mention the vague horror of the hatchet incident -- how much can there really be left for him to fear?

'Rampage' Jackson: I Got No Respect for Jon Jones

As pre-fight verbal battles go, the one between UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/) and challenger Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/QuintonRampageJackson/) is starting to get a little bit meta. During Monday's UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/) media call, it was less about what's being said than what was said, and who said it first.

Not surprisingly, the two could not reach a consensus on the topic.

According to Jackson, it was Jones who kicked things off by acting "real cocky" at the first press conference to hype their main event title fight. Jones, who claimed he was "waiting for an example or a quote" to illustrate Jackson's point, said he's doing his best not to get caught up in the pre-fight talk -- though, by the way, it's all Jackson's doing.

"My job is not to out-talk him," Jones said on Monday. "You're talking about an opponent who threatens and harasses literally every opponent in his career's history, and I'm very aware of this. So I'll let him talk and have fun and make me look like the scared one, but when I'm in the Octagon on the 24th, that's when I'll demand more respect."

Jackson, of course, bristled at the suggestion that he's a habitual trash-talker.

"If you go back and look at my interviews [before fights with] Marvin Eastman (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/marvin/eastman/146/) and Chuck Liddell (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chuck/liddell/113/) and Dan Henderson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dan/henderson/129/) and other guys, I react the way the guys act towards me," he countered, adding that Jones had set him off with his disrespectful, "cocky" attitude at the initial Denver presser.

"The guy has never walked the way I've walked in this sport, and basically the guy just said the wrong [expletive] and I treat him the way I treat him because I got no respect for him," Jackson said.

Still, the most heated public exchange between the two came during Saturday night's UFC Fight Night 25 broadcast on Spike, when the UFC's Joe Rogan asked about Jackson's allegations that Jones had a spy in his camp (http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/08/30/jon-jones-fires-back-at-rampage-jackson-over-spying-accusation/).

Jones seemed flustered by the topic, and said on Monday that what he's really confused about is how fans could believe he'd actually go to the lengths that Jackson had alleged, all just to get inside information from his opponent's training camp.

"The only thing that bothered me initially was the spygate situation," Jones said. "And it wasn't the situation necessarily, it was the fact that fans actually considered the fact that I would pay someone to...first of all, find someone to go to his camp and then pay someone and try to get Rampage to trust them, and all this ludicrousness, I thought that was pretty interesting that the fans would think I would do something like that."

While Jones drew contrasts between his bout with former Pride champ "Shogun" Rua and this fight with another Pride veteran in Jackson, he added that it was still "a huge honor" to fight an experienced mainstay of the sport like "Rampage."

Jackson, too, acknowledged that Jones "has skills," and said he plans to do his part to help him advance those skills after Saturday night.

"After I relieve him of his first loss, I think Jon will go on to be a better fighter because he won't have all that pressure of being undefeated," Jackson said. "...I'm just the person to give him that first [expletive]-whooping so he can go on and be a great fighter that I know he can be."

If you're looking for these two to find something nice to say about one another, that might be as close as you're going to get.

Rampage Jackson Says Jon Jones Disrespected His Coach at Open Workouts

DENVER -- At Thursday afternoon's UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/) open workouts Quinton "Rampage" Jackson continued to blast UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/) for what he interpreted as disrespect, but this time he had a new accusation to level at his opponent.

"He badmouthed my coach today, here at the open workout," Jackson told reporters. "That's not right. The kid has no respect for nobody. He needs to be humbled."

The coach in question was British boxing coach Mark Kinney, a stout veteran of the fight game who told MMA Fighting that Jones was "just trying to wind me up."

"He said something to me and then I said something back to him," said Kinney, who declined to reveal exactly what was said, but painted Jones as the instigator. "I'm not going to lose sleep over it," he added.

In Jackson's mind, it was just the latest example of disrespectful behavior from Jones, who had long since disappeared from the MusclePharm gym by the time Jackson made the accusation to reporters.

"It's very disrespectful what he did to my coach," Jackson said. "You don't come up to your opponent's coach and talk crap. For the honor and respect of this sport, you don't do that. Jon Jones says I fight for money, and this and that and he fights for fun and honor and stuff like that. But he's not showing the [signs] of a fighter who fights for honor. Yes, I fight for money, because this is the career I chose. But at the same time I have a lot of honor and respect for this sport and other fighters."

But Kinney, the man who was supposedly disrespected, brushed off the incident as a fairly tame run-in. Maybe Jones was feeling just a little too confident in the days leading up to the fight, he suggested, but the champ could be in for a surprise.

After Saturday night, Kinney said, no one will be asking about what Jones said to him or whether he really had a spy in Jackson's camp. "They're going to be asking about his concussion. They're going to be asking whether he'll be in hospital for two weeks or four."

Both Kinney and Jackson continued to insist that Jones had someone on the inside of the challenger's training camp feeding him information, but neither would say who it was. Jackson said he eventually found out the identity of the so-called spy, and his manager took action against him.

"Let's just say he's hurting financially right now," Jackson said. "But we did find the spy, and as I suspected he wasn't a fighter."

And while most people are counting Jackson out against the taller, lankier Jones, Kinney hinted that the team has a plan for getting inside the champion's longer reach and doing damage in close. Of course, he wasn't eager to divulge that information with the fight still two days away.

"But he'll get inside," Kinney said. "Trust me."

To Prepare for UFC 135 Bout, 'Rampage' Jackson Literally Lived in the Gym

DENVER -- The fight game is full of almost mythical hard luck stories of young fighters who, being long on passion and short on cash, end up sleeping on dirty mats or bedding down on a cot in some back room of the gym where they train. This is not one of those stories.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/QuintonRampageJackson/) isn't young (not by fighter standards, anyway) and he certainly isn't poor. He didn't make his home inside the MusclePharm gym just off I-70 in Denver because he had to; he did it because he wanted to. And, sure, there were other contributing factors.

"I'm kind of lazy," Jackson said. "I didn't want to have to wake up in the morning...and I'd be late here every day. So I just said forget it. Move me in."

According to MusclePharm co-founder and senior president Cory Gregory, it wasn't the kind of request they'd envisioned when they first built the more than 30,000-square-foot facility that resembles an airplane hanger more than a 24-Hour Fitness, but they found a way to make it work.

"Rampage lives right in there," Gregory said, gesturing through a door off the main weight room. "It was originally a physical therapy room. He spent one night in a hotel then came in and said, 'Hey, make me a room.' So we made him a room and that's where he sleeps."

Jackson has been living in the facility for about the past two months, by his own reckoning. He came to Denver to live and train in the altitude and the atmosphere where he'd be fighting light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/) at UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/), but the hotels which had kitchens that could accommodate him were all too far from the gym, he said.

"But then, I saw the gym has everything," he said. "I might as well live here."

Not only does the gym have a kitchen, it also has a hyperbaric chamber, hot and cold recovery tubs, hydraulic weight training machines, aquatic treadmills, a full lab for measuring hormone levels -- even its own movie theater where all the seats are individually embroidered with the MusclePharm logo.

"We use [the theater] for presentations and stuff," Gregory said. "But also Rampage uses it to play video games and watch movies."

But all that isn't cheap. According to the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc), between Jackson, his Wolfslair squad, and MusclePharm, more than one million dollars went into this one fight camp. How they arrived at that figure is vague at best, but a good portion of it seems to come from the luxury of the MusclePharm gym, which isn't open to the public and, according to Gregory, never will be.

"We've been building it for a year, a year and change, and not really telling anybody about it," he said, explaining that it was just for the athletes the company sponsors, such as Jackson and NFL players like Shawne Merriman, who Gregory says has been here several times.

But with all this expensive equipment laying around exclusively for the use of pro athletes, it's hard not to wonder how the company isn't losing money just by keeping the lights on.

"We're a brand that sells supplements worldwide," Gregory said. "...This was all in our marketing budget, because we knew that just like the thing they played on Spike [TV], the Countdown show, there's like five minutes all about the facility. Basically, if you build it, they will come."

Except that, as I was forced to point out, they don't actually want people to come. People can't come. Not past the parking lot, anyway.

"We didn't need to make money off the gym," Gregory said. "We're making money because you're standing here talking to me."

Besides, he added, if he's pursuing a sponsorship deal with a pro athlete like Jackson, who has other suitors in the industry, "why wouldn't they pick MusclePharm when they have the access to this? No one else has this. I think we rival even some Olympic facilities. It's pretty ridiculous."

Ridiculous is an appropriate word for it, in some respects. For a guy who's preparing to fight another man in a cage on Saturday night, it almost seems like overkill. There's far more mat space here than any one fighter could possibly need -- far more space in general. There's a cage, a ring, an astroturf runway. The walls are adorned with inspirational (if not completely grammatically sound) phrases such as "Weak Ends Here."

It is, in other words, a very different training model than the one that most MMA fighters follow. Rather than working with an existing team that makes its home in an existing fight gym, Jackson is his own moveable team. He has his own dedicated coaches and sparring partners, and his own private gym to work out of.

It's ironic then that he should still be so worried about a "spy" in his midst, but both Jackson and boxing coach Mark Kinney both insisted that the spying incident was very real and a very serious concern.

"We actually found out who the spy was and he got in big trouble," said Jackson, who declined to name names but said it "wasn't a fighter."

According to Kinney, it was "someone who knew what we were doing" and was passing the information to outside sources.

But, both men said, the team took care of it, and now Jackson thinks he may have found a permanent training camp for future fights.

"It'd be hard not to train here," he said. "Especially now [that] the spy's gone."

The real test, of course, comes on Saturday night. That's when we'll all find out how much it benefited Jackson to live and train inside this cavernous facility, with every advantage science could concoct ready at his disposal.

Gregory, whose company has its name riding on his performance in more ways than one, isn't too concerned.

"Listen, Quinton looks like he did back in the day," he said. "He's fast, he's recovered, he's nasty. And, of course, Quinton's my boy, so we believe he's going to win. We believe he's going to knock him out."

UFC 135 Weigh-In Results:

The UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc)'s version of "Spygate" may still be lingering, but it doesn't matter much now. One of the most anticipated title fights in recent UFC memory goes down Saturday, spy or no spy.

Main event light heavyweights Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/) and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/QuintonRampageJackson/) were both on the mark Friday for their title fight, which headlines UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/) at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The official weigh-in event took place at the Wells Fargo Theater at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

Jones defends the light heavyweight title for the first time since winning it against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/MauricioShogunRua/) at UFC 128 in March. He took that fight on short notice, filling in for then-teammate Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rashad/evans/387/) when Evans was hurt. Evans now waits in the wings to fight the winner of Jones-Jackson.

Jones, who typically looks away from his opponents during staredowns at the weigh-ins, this time looked right at Jackson and the two talked back and forth to each other in animated fashion before being split apart by UFC president Dana White.

"I had to tell him I'm going to end his hype tomorrow, that's what I told him," Jackson told emcee Joe Rogan. "It's about time he grew up and started acting like a real MMA (http://www.mmafighting.com/) fighter. We stare each other down – that's what we do in the UFC."

Jones had very little to say: "I feel real good. I've done enough talking, and it's time for me to show what I've got now. So let's do it."

The training camp period for the title fight was interrupted by controversy after Jackson's camp accused the Jones camp of planting a spy to monitor the challenger's training – which Jones' side vehemently denied.

In the co-main event, former title challenger Josh Koscheck (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/josh/koscheck/330/) returns for the first time since losing to welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/georges/st-pierre/439/) in December. He takes a short notice fight against UFC Hall of Famer and former world champion Matt Hughes (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/matt/hughes/187/). Koscheck was 170.5 pounds; Hughes was 170.

The main card opens with an intriguing lightweight fight between up-and-down fighters Nate Diaz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/nate/diaz/538/) and Takanori Gomi (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/takanori/gomi/721/). Diaz has lost two straight fights, but is always a candidate for an exciting bout. And Gomi has lost two of three since joining the UFC after a lengthy career in Japan. Both losses have been by submission.

And in a pair of heavyweight fights, Travis Browne looks to remain unbeaten when he meets Rob Broughton. And former IFL star Ben Rothwell returns after a long injury layoff to meet Mark Hunt.

The preliminary card features five fights. The first three will stream live on the UFC's Facebook fan page, including a bantamweight bout between former title challenger Takeya Mizugaki and Cole Escovedo.

Those three fights will be followed by a pair of bouts on Spike TV starting at 8 p.m. Eastern. Tony Ferguson, winner of Season 13 of "The Ultimate Fighter" this past June, fights for the first time since winning that title. He'll drop down to lightweight to take on veteran Aaron Riley. And at middleweight, Tim Boetsch meets TUF veteran Nick Ring.

UFC 135 takes place Saturday with the main card airing on pay-per-view at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Zie echt geen kans voor Rampage.. Denk dat Jones op elk vlak een stapje hoger zit.. En de KO power van Rampage heb ik ook al een tijdje niet gezien dus denk dat Jones gewoon gaat winnen.
