Four years ago, Takanori Gomi (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/takanori/gomi/721/) fought Nick Diaz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/nick/diaz/506/) in one of the best fights in the history of Pride. Now Gomi is slated to get a crack at Diaz's little brother.

The UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) has announced (http://www.ufc.com/news/ufc-135-fight-card-updates) that Gomi will face Nate Diaz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/nate/diaz/538/) at UFC 135 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+135/), adding what should be a very entertaining lightweight fight to the September 24 card in Denver.

Gomi's fight with Nick Diaz was a classic. Gomi, the Pride lightweight champion, entered as the favorite, but Diaz wore him out with his wild striking and his activity off his back, eventually submitting Gomi with a gogoplata in the second round. The bout was later changed to a no contest because Diaz tested positive for marijuana, but fans still remember it as a great fight, and as the performance that put Diaz on the map.

UFC President Dana White made a point of commenting on the previous Gomi-Diaz fight in announcing the next Gomi-Diaz fight, and you can bet highlights from that 2007 Pride bout will be shown regularly in the run-up to UFC 135. We can only hope Nate Diaz, who's moving back down to lightweight after looking sluggish at welterweight, can look half as good against Gomi as his brother did.

Here's how the UFC 135 fight card looks right now:
Jon Jones (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jon/jones/549/) vs. Rampage Jackson
Matt Hughes (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/matt/hughes/187/) vs Diego Sanchez (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/diego/sanchez/461/)
Kid Yamamoto vs Damacio Page (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/damacio/page/1043/)
Ben Rothwell (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ben/rothwell/969/) vs Mark Hunt
Travis Browne vs Rob Broughton
Takanori Gomi vs Nate Diaz

Takanori Gomi (32-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and fellow lightweight Nate Diaz (13-7 MMA, 8-5 UFC) have agreed to meet at UFC 135, officials announced.

UFC 135 takes place Sept. 24 at Denver's Pepsi Center.

The main card, which airs on pay-per-view, features a light-heavyweight title fight between current champ Jon "Bones" Jones and former champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

However, it's not clear if Gomi vs. Diaz will be part of the broadcast.

Gomi fights a Diaz for the second time. In 2007 the former PRIDE champion took on big brother Nick Diaz at PRIDE 33. Gomi suffered a submission loss via gogoplata, but after his opponent tested positive for marijuana, the outcome was changed to a no-contest.

Gomi's career has been a mixed bag since then. He's 5-4 in his past nine fights, including 1-2 in the UFC. After a submission loss to Kenny Florian in his promotional debut, the Japanese notable scored a knockout win over Tyson Griffin. However, back in January, Clay Guida tapped him out with a guillotine choke.

Diaz looks to avoid his third straight defeat and his fourth loss in six fights. "The Ultimate Fighter 5" winner picked up a pair of wins at welterweight (over Rory Markham and Marcus Davis) but suffered recent decision losses to Dong Hyun Kim and Rory MacDonald. Before the recent skid, Diaz had won five straight fight-night bonuses (three "Fight of the Night" and two "Submission of the Night" awards).
