Strikeforce light heavyweight prospect Ovince St-Preux (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ovince/st.-preux/1499/) (10-4) will meet newcomer Joe Cason (9-1) at Strikeforce Challengers 17 on July 22, MMA Fighting (http://www.mmafighting.com/) has learned from sources close to the event.
OSP, who went 6-0 in 2010, was discussed as a potential opponent for Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante prior to Zuffa acquiring Strikeforce, but that fight was scrapped after the purchase.
The Haitian-American St-Preux, a former linebacker for the University of Tennessee, holds wins over Abongo Humphrey (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/abongo/humphrey/1365/), Benji Radach (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/benji/radach/371/) and Antwain Britt (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/antwain/britt/1459/) in Strikeforce.
Cason most recently defeated former UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) fighter Sean Salmon (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/sean/salmon/316/) via first-round TKO. He won his last eight fights in a row, primarily on the local Iowa scene.
