Ed Herman Replaces Tom Lawlor, Will Face Kyle Noke in August

After a successful return from an injury layoff, Ed Herman (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ed/herman/419/) is wasting no time in keeping his momentum moving forward.

The longtime UFC middleweight has stepped into a vacancy left by an injury to Tom Lawlor (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tom/lawlor/467/), and will face Kyle Noke (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/kyle/noke/1549/) at the upcoming UFC on Versus event in August, the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) confirmed on Friday.

The 30-year-old Herman spent nearly two years on the shelf after an August 2009 loss to Aaron Simpson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/aaron/simpson/662/) resulted in a severe knee injury. Herman finally returned at The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale in June, and made up for lost time with a 48-second knockout of Tim Credeur (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tim/credeur/304/).

Herman is 20-7 overall.

Noke (19-4-1) has yet to lose in the UFC, winning all three of his matches in the organization. He holds wins over Chris Camozzi (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/camozzi/1550/), Rob Kimmons (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/rob/kimmons/466/) and Josh Bryant (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/josh/bryant/1548/). All three of his victories have come via stoppage.

The UFC gave no details on the injury to Lawlor.

UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle takes place on August 14 from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

It's been almost two years since Dan Hardy (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dan/hardy/492/) won a fight, and after losing his third in a row in March, Hardy decided he was overdue for a change of scenery.

So Hardy, who had been accustomed to splitting training time between his home in Nottingham, England, and Los Angeles, decided that he'd make Las Vegas the home base for his training camp for his Aug. 14 fight with Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/lytle/217/). Hardy says the results will be easy to see when he steps into the Octagon.

"It's been really good -- it's my best training camp so far," Hardy said. "I've been working every day with Roy Nelson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/roy/nelson/1015/) and I have my striking coach with me."

Hardy said he's still loyal to his friends at Team Rough House in England, but that there's no comparison between England and Vegas when it comes to looking for a wide variety of coaches and training partners.

"I've been traveling around to a few different gyms for sparring," Hardy said of his time in Las Vegas. "There's a lot of talent in Vegas. It's given me the opportunity to train with a few different guys and get a few different looks."

After beating Mike Swick (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/mike/swick/379/) in 2009 to earn a welterweight title shot, Hardy has stagnated: In fights with Georges St. Pierre (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/georges/st-pierre/439/), Carlos Condit (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/carlos/condit/663/) and Anthony Johnson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/anthony/johnson/516/), Hardy didn't just lose but he was completely dominated. He said those losses didn't cost him any confidence but did cause him to consider whether he was improving as a fighter.

"It's a continuous process and something I need to work on for the rest of my career," he said. "I'm seeing improvement from myself and I'm hearing from other people that there's been a lot of improvement. ... Sometimes you just need to take yourself out of your comfort zone and I think I slipped into a little bit of a groove in L.A. and England."

Now Hardy says he's confident that training in Las Vegas is going to result in a career-changing win over Lytle.

"I need to get my career back on track," Hardy said. "This is the right place to do it."

Leonard Garcia Out; Jim Hettes Meets Alex Caceres at UFC on Versus 5

Another injury has hit the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc)'s card in Milwaukee next week, this time to one of the featherweight division's fan favorites.

An injury has forced Leonard Garcia (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/leonard/garcia/384/) out of his preliminary card fight against Alex Caceres (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/alex/caceres/1755/) at next week's UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFConVersus5/) show. The UFC announced Garcia's injury Tuesday and said promotional newcomer Jim Hettes (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/JimHettes/) will step in for the fight on short notice.

UFC on Versus 5 is the promotion's debut in the state of Wisconsin and will take place at the Bradley Center, downtown in the state's largest city.

Garcia (15-7-1, 2-3 UFC) was looking to get back in the win column after a March loss to Chan Sung Jung (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chan-sung/jung/1494/). That fight, which Jung won by rare twister submission, was a rematch from their WEC 48 split decision, which was controversially won by Garcia. The submission loss snapped a streak of four straight split decisions for Garcia – two wins, a loss and a split draw.

Caceres (5-3, 0-1 UFC), a cast member of Season 12 of "The Ultimate Fighter," on which he gained prominence for his "Bruce Leeroy" moniker, lost his official UFC debut in March when he was submitted by Mackens Semerzier (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/mackens/semerzier/1142/).

For his new opponent, Caceres will be matched up with an unbeaten Pennsylvanian in Hettes (8-0) who has all eight of his wins by submission. Hettes was eyed by the UFC last year, but was unable to sign with the company because of commitments to another promotion.

The Caceres-Hettes fight will be part of the preliminary card in Milwaukee. The main card is headlined by a welterweight bout between former title challenger Dan Hardy (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dan/hardy/492/), looking to snap a three-fight skid, and Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/lytle/217/). The co-main event features lightweight contenders Jim Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jim/miller/509/), on a seven-fight winning streak, and former WEC 155-pound champion Ben Henderson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ben/henderson/1066/).

Main Card
Welterweight Bout: Dan Hardy vs. Chris Lytle

Chris Lytle by decision of Submission, ik denk dat Lytle zijn ervaring hier goed tepas komt en zijn ground game is zeker en vast beter dan die van Hardy.

Lightweight Bout: Jim Miller vs. Ben Henderson

Jim Miller by Submission of TKO , Miller zijn snelheid en footwork gaat hier een zware rol in spelen denk ik , Henderson is bekend omdat hij goed uit een sub kan raken maar dat gaat deze keer niet gebeuren.

Lightweight Bout: Charles Oliveira vs. Donald Cerrone

Oliveira by Submission of Cerrone by Sub. .

Welterweight Bout: Amir Sadollah vs. Duane Ludwig

Amir Sadollah by TKO.

Preliminary Card
Middleweight bout: C.B. Dollaway vs. Jared Hamman - Dollaway by decision.
Bantamweight Bout: Joseph Benavidez vs. Eddie Wineland - Benavidez by decision of SUB.
Middleweight Bout: Ed Herman vs. Kyle Noke - Noke by TKO
Light Heavyweight Bout: Karlos Vemola vs. Ronny Markes - Vemola by TKO of UD.
Featherweight bout: Alex Caceres vs. Jimy Hettes - Hettes by Sub of UD.
Lightweight Bout: Cole Miller vs. T.J. O'Brien - Miller by Sub of UD.
Lightweight Bout: Jacob Volkmann vs. Danny Castillo - Volkmann by UD.
Bantamweight Bout: Edwin Figueroa vs. Jason Reinhardt Figueroa by UD.

No Surprise: UFC on Versus 5 Prelims to Stream on Facebook

In what should come as no surprise in 2011, the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) on Sunday will again offer preliminary card fights on Facebook.

Though the promotion has not yet made the Facebook fights official for UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFConVersus5/) on its website, sources close to the UFC confirmed to MMA Fighting plans for the live stream. UFC on Versus 5 takes place at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis. It will be the UFC's debut in the Badger State.

It will be the 14th straight event the UFC has shown previously unaired fights on the social networking site, dating back to January. And for the eighth straight time, each fight on the card will make its way to a broadcast of some type, as all eight prelim fights on Sunday will stream on Facebook.

Leading the prelims will be a middleweight bout between C.B. Dollaway (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/cb/dollaway/507/) and Jared Hamman (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jared/hamman/1140/) that was ticketed for the main card until a recent demotion to the undercard. The previous four UFC cards on Versus have featured just four fights on the main card instead of the typical five. In addition, the prelims get a bantamweight bout between former champion Eddie Wineland (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/eddie/wineland/961/) and former title challenger Joseph Benavidez (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/joseph/benavidez/911/).

Other prelims include Ed Herman (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ed/herman/419/) vs. Kyle Noke (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/kyle/noke/1549/) at middleweight; a light heavyweight bout between Karlos Vemola (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/karlos/vemola/1523/) and promotional newcomer Ronny Markes; a featherweight bout between Alex Caceres (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/alex/caceres/1755/) and short-notice newcomer Jim Hettes; lightweight fights between Cole Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/cole/miller/522/)-T.J. O'Brien (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/TJOBrien/) and Jacob Volkmann (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/JacobVolkmann/)-Danny Castillo; and a bantamweight fight between Edwin Figueroa and Jason Reinhardt.

To gain access to the fights, which will begin at 5:45 p.m. Eastern, viewers must "like" the UFC on Facebook. As of Tuesday afternoon, the UFC had more than 6.1 million fans at the site.

The UFC began streaming preliminary fights in January with its Fight for the Troops 2 show at Fort Hood, Texas. Since then, the promotion has included free Facebook fights for each event, regardless of the main card's platform – be it on pay-per-view, Spike or Versus. For the historic UFC 129 card in Toronto in April, five prelims were aired on Facebook, followed by a pair on Spike leading into the pay-per-view – meaning for the first time, fans were guaranteed the opportunity to see each fight on the card. That has continued for each of the seven events since then, including Sunday's card in Milwaukee.

UFC on Versus 5 features a main event welterweight bout between former title challenger Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle. The co-main event is a lightweight bout between contenders Jim Miller, who owns a seven-fight winning streak, and former WEC 155-pound champion Ben Henderson.

The main card will air live on the Versus cable station at 9 p.m. Eastern on Sunday. Once again, the fight card will be preceded by a live pre-fight show on Versus featuring Craig Hummer, UFC light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar and Ariel Helwani. In addition, the trio will also host a post-fight show on Versus.

UFC on Versus 5 is the third of four shows on the 2011 calendar between the promotion and cable channel. All four will be UFC debuts in a new market. In March, UFC on Versus 3 was in Louisville, Ky.; in June, UFC on Versus 4 was in Pittsburgh, Pa.; and in October, UFC on Versus 6 will be in Washington, D.C

Dan Hardy Wants to Scrap; Chris Lytle Says He'll Oblige at UFC on Versus 5

Dan Hardy will admit it – he pretty well blew it his last time out, dropping his third straight with a unanimous decision loss to Anthony Johnson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/anthony/johnson/516/).

The Brit said he wanted to put on an exciting fight, but instead didn't do his part to deliver, especially for his fans in the U.K. "I had a lot of people, especially over in the U.K. waiting up till early hours of the morning to watch a good fight – and I ended up having a nap for 15 minutes," Hardy said last week on a media call for UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFConVersus5/), which he headlines Sunday in Milwaukee against Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/lytle/217/).

Believing he has fallen victim in the past to lay-and-pray wrestlers – including Johnson in March – Hardy is hopeful his fight with Lytle won't be a carbon copy of the Johnson fight.

"Regardless of where the fight goes, I just don't want a boring fight," Hardy (23-9, 1 NC, 4-3 UFC) said. "There are a lot of wrestlers out there that use their wrestling really well in MMA – they use it aggressively, they win fights with it. Jim (Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jim/miller/509/)) is a great example. I just don't want a boring fight, and I don't think Chris has got that in him."

And for his part, Lytle (30-18-5, 9-10 UFC) said Hardy has nothing to worry about.

"They picked Dan and I to be the main event, and let me tell you something," Lytle said. "They didn't pick me and Dan to be there to put on a boring fight. So if you think I'm going to try to sit there and get him on the ground and hold him down for 15 minutes and then dry hump him, that's not going to happen."

Hardy may find himself in must-win territory against Lytle, who also is coming off a loss. After starting his UFC career with four straight wins, Hardy was thrust into a welterweight title fight with Georges St-Pierre (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/georges/st-pierre/439/). His loss last year started a three-fight skid that included Johnson in March and a knockout loss to Carlos Condit (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/carlos/condit/663/) last October.

But Hardy says each of those three losses is explainable. A fourth straight, to Lytle on Sunday, might have him really searching for answers.

"Breaking each one of the three fights I lost down, every one of them was forgivable in a way," Hardy said. "Georges is the champ. He's one of the best in the world, and that was a fight where I just kind of went and gave it my best. ... The Condit fight was just my arrogance got the better of me. I just got caught there. That was my own fault. And the Anthony Johnson one, he's a big strong wrestler and it was just one of those days that sometimes you just don't win."

Hardy said he adjusted his training camp this time around, starting in Las Vegas, then moving to his Team Rough House in England, then returning to Vegas, where he trained with Roy Nelson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/roy/nelson/1015/), Evan Dunham (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/evan/dunham/648/) and Gilbert Yvel (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/gilbert/yvel/868/), among others.

The UFC seldom keeps fighters on its roster with three straight losses, so Hardy is already in short company. A fourth straight setback, regardless of his popularity with the crucial U.K. fanbase, could be devastating.

"I just feel ready," Hardy said. "I feel that this is a turning point in my career. I've got to get things back on track, and I'm in the right place to do it."

Hardy and Lytle are the main event of UFC on Versus 5, which takes place Sunday at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis. It will be the UFC's debut in Wisconsin. The four-fight main card, which also includes an important lightweight co-main event between Jim Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/JimMiller/) and Ben Henderson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ben/henderson/1066/), airs live on Versus at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Eddie Wineland Looking for Tough Road Back to UFC Title Contention

After Eddie Wineland (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/eddie/wineland/961/) had his four-fight winning streak snapped against Urijah Faber (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/urijah/faber/959/) in March, he took an interesting next step.

Rather than taking the positives from a fight he kept much closer than most people predicted, regrouping and taking on someone down the bantamweight ladder to start a new streak, Wineland asked for an opponent maybe tougher than his last – Joseph Benavidez (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/joseph/benavidez/911/).

Before thinking Wineland might not have his head on straight – after all, he asked for the teammate and primary training partner of his last opponent, ensuring Benavidez would have plenty of knowledge about him built up from Faber's training camp – one must listen to his logic. Having once held the bantamweight belt for the WEC (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/WEC/), now the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) strap, getting it back is the one thing he wants most.

"I could have easily fought one of the top five, six, seven guys, and that would've got me back on track," Wineland said. "But a win over Joseph, I think, puts me right back into title contention. It's a gamble, but I don't need to be fighting guys who are up and coming and looking to get their names out there."

Wineland (18-7-1, 0-1 UFC) had back-to-back Knockout of the Night bonuses to close out his WEC career before getting his matchup with Faber. And though he won the first round on the judges' scorecards at UFC 128 – stopping multiple Faber takedown attempts and landing a slam of his own to the surprise of nearly everyone but Wineland – he couldn't keep Faber at bay long enough in the second and third. Faber went on to get a title shot – a shot that UFC president Dana White said afterward he'd have to have given to Wineland had he won.

With Dominick Cruz (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dominick/cruz/1057/) locked down on the No. 1 spot in the bantamweight class, Wineland sees plenty of lists with Benavidez (14-2, 1-0 UFC) as the No. 2 guy. Benavidez's only two career losses? To Cruz, of course. But Wineland wants to dispel the myth that asking for Benavidez was a call-out of any kind. He wanted another major test, more than anything.

"I always said that Benavidez poses a lot of problems for me since he's a good wrestler and he's really fast, very scrambly," Wineland said. "He's ranked top two or three in most all the rankings. In the beginning, he felt like I called him out – when it's not coming from the horse's mouth he's going to hear something different. Not that I called him out, but I asked for the fight because that's my fastest path back to the belt."

Wineland was a heavy underdog against Faber, and he'll enter the fight with Benavidez at UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFConVersus5/) on Sunday in Milwaukee, just a couple hours' drive from his home in Northwest Indiana, as a 2-to-1 'dog.

Wineland will have a reach and height advantage of several inches against Benavidez, but he remembers how his opponent caught the bigger Miguel Torres (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/miguel/torres/957/) not long back – the same Torres that Wineland once trained with. Wineland said he looked at Benavidez's losses to Cruz more than anything else, and he wonders if he might have some of the same Benavidez Kryptonite that Cruz seems to possess. If he does, he believes an upset is in the offing on Sunday.

"I think Dominick and I have similar movements in the sense we move side to side and not forward and backward," Wineland said. "I think ultimately, my natural movement is what's going to give me the win. I think they think they're going to come in and fight the same Eddie Wineland that Urijah fought, and that's not going to happen. Every fight, I change. I get stronger. I get faster."

And that size difference of 5-foot-7 vs. 5-4? If it gives Wineland that little extra mental boost for himself, he'll take it.

"When we're in the gym and I'm sparring with shorter guys, my confidence seems to grow," Wineland said. "Not so much the fact that I'm looking down on them ... but I am looking down on them. I think it gives me that confidence factor and helps me to push forward and realize that, hey, this guy's a kid – he looks like a kid. So I can't let this kid come in here and beat me. I just have to think child abuse, I guess."

But that's not a call out.

Wineland and Benavidez fight as part of the preliminary card of UFC on Versus 5 on Sunday at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis. Their fight will air as part of a live stream on the UFC's Facebook page, with the first fight starting at 5:45 p.m. Eastern. The main card, featuring a welterweight bout between Dan Hardy (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dan/hardy/492/) and Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/lytle/217/), airs live on Versus starting at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Regrouped After February Upset Loss, Chris Lytle Not Ruling Out UFC Title Run

MILWAUKEE – There are workaholics, and then there is Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ChrisLytle/).

When he's not training for a UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) fight – and going into his 20th with the promotion, he's among the all-time leaders – he's working as an Indianapolis firefighter. And he recently said when he stops scrapping in the cage, he wouldn't mind taking a stab at Indiana state politics – he even put an exploratory committee together to see how he'd fare in an election. Then there's his family, with four kids.

It would occur to most people to wonder, geez – does the guy ever take a break? Maybe not retire just yet, though Lytle will turn 37 next week. But just stop going for a few days?

"After this last fight, I had a lot of injuries and that was one of the things I was contemplating," Lytle told MMA Fighting on Friday after a short workout in Milwaukee, where he'll fight Dan Hardy (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dan/hardy/492/) in the main event of UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ufc+on+versus+5/) on Sunday. "I don't want to keep fighting if I can't perform like I've been doing. So I took some time off, hung out with the family a little bit and let my body heal up. I actually got to relax a little bit – it was pretty cool. I had about a month where I didn't do too much. That's a rarity."

(Of course, that month where he "didn't do too much" still involved working at the firehouse.) And then that switch in his head clicked back over, the one that doesn't really allow him to take breaks. The one that doesn't really allow him to relax.

"I don't like to take much time off – after a couple days, it's like something's missing," Lytle (30-18-5, 9-10 UFC) said. "I start to get in a bad mood, and my wife's like, 'You need to go to the gym.' I love to take breaks, but it just never happens. I feel like I have a lot of responsibilities, a lot of goals – I think I'm just too goal-oriented. Once I get something on my mind, it's hard for me to get it out."

Right now, what's on Lytle's mind is getting back in the win column. In February, his name was being tossed around as a possible title challenger for Georges St-Pierre (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/georges/st-pierre/439/)'s welterweight belt. His four-fight winning streak, while not overwhelming, was the kind of run that if it hit five, then six, a title shot would have been realistic.

But then Brian Ebersole (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/brian/ebersole/1209/) came along. He pulled one of the year's biggest upsets in front of his home Australian crowd, taking the fight on short notice and sending Lytle back into the middle of the pack at 170 pounds. Lytle said everything about that fight at UFC 127 felt wrong.

"That was a lose-lose situation for me," Lytle said. "I knew I wasn't physically where I should be, and I knew nobody knew who this guy was. Unless I went out there and knocked him out in 30 seconds, everyone would say, 'Chris didn't look good tonight.' And I knew I wasn't going to do that – no one's ever knocked him out, he's a good wrestler, he hasn't lost a fight in five years. I knew he was going to be tough, and there was very little to gain. I knew I had a lot working against me."

Against Hardy (23-9, 1 NC, 4-3 UFC), Lytle is back in the type of fight he loves the most – the potential for a good old fashioned scrap. That's what Hardy has been practically begging for since he was "punked" by Anthony Johnson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/anthony/johnson/516/) in March. Hardy claims Johnson told him personally he wanted to have a knock-down, drag-out slugfest of a fight, then wrestled his way to a decision victory.

But Lytle again on Friday said Hardy has very little to worry about in that department. After all, you don't win eight UFC fight night bonuses by fighting safe and playing for points with the judges.

"I do take a lot of pride that the UFC has put us in the main event," Lytle said. "I know they do that for a reason – they want fireworks. They want a fight people want to see. These are the kinds of fights I want. There's no thought in my head of pulling an Anthony Johnson. I got to get that W, but I'd rather lose the fight than win it like that."

Though Lytle admits to giving some thought to hanging up the gloves after his loss to Ebersole, he said it will be his body that will dictate how long he stays in the game. And even though he had to go back to Square One in the title picture after the loss, he wouldn't put a title run down the line beyond the realm of possibility for him.

"I feel that if you go out there and just grind it out to try and get a title, you're going to have to win eight or nine fights in a row to get a title fight," Lytle said. "If I go out there and just put on great fights – and I'm trying to win all of them – and win in spectacular fashion, it's not going to take eight fights. It's going to take a few. I feel like I'm still on the radar, and if I get a couple wins ..."

Lytle has time for very little in his schedule, but he'd make time for one last run at a UFC belt.

Lytle and Hardy fight in the main event of UFC on Versus 5, which airs Sunday at 9 p.m. Easter on the Versus cable channel.

UFC on Versus 5 Weigh-in Results: Dan Hardy Needs Three Tries to Make Limit

MILWAUKEE – Dan Hardy (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dan/hardy/492/) got perhaps the loudest ovation at Saturday's UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) weigh-ins – even though he wore Chicago Bears orange in green-and-gold Packers country. (OK, maybe it was meant to be Harley-Davidson orange.)

But Hardy, sporting bright orange for his signature mohawk, missed weight for his welterweight bout against Midwesterner Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/lytle/217/), weighing in at 171.5 pounds even after dropping four pairs of trunks that he wore for show. Lytle weighed in at 170.5 for the main event of Sunday's UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ufc+on+versus+5/) card.

After the official weigh-in event concluded, Hardy was able to make not just 171 pounds, but 170, the UFC confirmed. Hardy took to his Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/#!/danhardymma/status/102509360361644032), saying, "Not sure what happend there, I was on weight when I left the hotel!"

All 22 of the other fighters on the card successfully hit their marks at the weigh-ins, which took place outside the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.

Hardy is looking to snap a three-fight losing streak that started with a welterweight title fight loss to Georges St-Pierre (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/georges/st-pierre/439/) last year. Lytle is coming off his first loss in five fights, a decision setback to Brian Ebersole (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/brian/ebersole/1209/) in February. Both men have said they want to put a Fight of the Night-type performance on, promising to stand in the pocket and trade.

Jim Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jim/miller/509/) and Ben Henderson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ben/henderson/1066/) fight in the co-main event, an important bout that might determine the next top contender in the lightweight division. Miller comes in on a seven-fight winning streak, tops in the UFC outside champions St-Pierre and Anderson Silva (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/anderson/silva/235/). A win is likely to assure him a shot at the Frankie Edgar (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/FrankieEdgar/)-Gray Maynard (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/gray/maynard/374/) rematch winner in October. Henderson, the former lightweight champ in the WEC, won his UFC debut in April against Mark Bocek. And while an upset of Miller wouldn't likely get him a title shot, it would throw a wrench into the division. Though for the second straight fight, Henderson had to strip down to make his mark, he eventually weighed in at 156. Miller came in at 155.5.

Also on the main card, Donald Cerrone (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/DonaldCerrone/) and Charles Oliveira (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/CharlesOliveira/) had one of the afternoon's more intense staredowns after leaving the scale, though they did shake hands. Cerrone said Friday he finds his opponent to be cocky thanks to a smirk he gave him earlier in the week. Cerrone has won four straight in the lightweight division – two to close out his WEC career and his first two as part of the UFC. The former WEC star won five Fight of the Night bonuses with that promotion, and a third straight UFC win would likely elevate his name into future title talk. Cerrone was 156; Oliveira weighed 155.

The complete weigh-in results are below:

Main Card
Dan Hardy (170*) vs. Chris Lytle (170.5)
Jim Miller (155.5) vs. Ben Henderson (156)
Charles Oliveira (155) vs. Donald Cerrone (156)
Amir Sadollah (170) vs. Duane Ludwig (170.5)
Preliminary Card
C.B. Dollaway (186) vs. Jared Hamman (185)
Joseph Benavidez (135.5) vs. Eddie Wineland (136)
Ed Herman (186) vs. Kyle Noke (185)
Karlos Vemola (205.5) vs. Ronny Markes (205)
Alex Caceres (146) vs. Jim Hettes (145.5)
Cole Miller (155.5) vs. T.J. O'Brien (155.5)
Jacob Volkmann (156) vs. Danny Castillo (156)
Edwin Figueroa (136) vs. Jason Reinhardt (135)

* Hardy missed weight on his first try. After removing his trunks, he was still 171.5. On his third try, after the official weigh-in event, he made 170.

Chris Lytle Says UFC on Versus 5 Fight With Dan Hardy is Retirement Bout

MILWAUKEE – Just one day after inferring a win over Dan Hardy (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dan/hardy/492/) could mean he had a title run left in him, Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/lytle/217/) has announced his retirement.

Lytle, who fights Hardy in the main event of UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ufc+on+versus+5/) on Sunday in Milwaukee, informed UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) president Dana White (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/DanaWhite/) that Sunday's fight would be his last. NBC Sports reported (http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/44135102) the news early Sunday morning.

Lytle handed White an envelope before he weighed in at the Harley-Davidson Museum on Saturday. According to NBC Sports, the envelope held a letter thanking White and the UFC, and a formal intent to retire from the sport. In White's video blog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOIe9G9xo9k), put online late Saturday night, Lytle can be seen telling Hardy this would be his final fight.

"I've been fighting since '98, fighting forever," Lytle told NBC Sports. "A lot of it is just that I'm not doing my responsibilities like I need to at home. I feel like I'm not being the type of dad I want to. I've got four kids and lots of times I feel just an immense sense of guilt for not being there in times when I should."

On Friday, following a short workout, Lytle was asked if he believed he could get back in the hunt for a shot at a UFC welterweight title. He owned a four-fight winning streak prior to his upset loss to Brian Ebersole (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/brian/ebersole/1209/) in February.

"If I go out there and just put on great fights – and I'm trying to win all of them – and win in spectacular fashion, it's not going to take eight fights," said Lytle, who will turn 37 later this week. "It's going to take a few. I feel like I'm still on the radar, and if I get a couple wins ..."

But those couple wins apparently will not come. He'll have a chance to go out with one victory against Hardy, in a main event fight nationally televised on Versus, before hanging up the gloves.

Lytle (30-18-5, 9-10 UFC) has put together one of the better career stories in MMA (http://www.mmafighting.com/) history. He made his UFC debut at UFC 28 in November 2000, predating even Zuffa's purchase of the promotion. A loss to Ben Earwood (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ben/earwood/644/) put him at 5-6-3 in his pro career, with most of his fights at that point in Japan (http://www.mmafighting.com/japan/) for Pancrase and in his home state of Indiana. He went on a nice run after his UFC debut and returned at UFC 45, but lost to Robbie Lawler (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/robbie/lawler/471/).

A win over Pete Spratt (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/pete/spratt/139/) outside the promotion got him called back, and he won consecutive submissions against Tiki Ghosn at UFC 47 and Ronald Jhun at UFC 49. After toggling back and forth between the UFC, WEC (not yet owned by Zuffa) and other promotions, Lytle was asked to join the Season 4 cast of "The Ultimate Fighter," which featured former UFC fighters looking to make their way back to the promotion – with the winner guaranteed a title shot against Georges St-Pierre.

Lytle made it to the finals of TUF 4, but lost a close split decision to Matt Serra. Serra would go on to stun St-Pierre at UFC 69, winning the welterweight title in arguably the biggest upset in MMA history. But after his loss to Serra, only one of Lytle's fights has been outside the UFC.

Though he has a sub-.500 record in the UFC, he can bring that mark to 10-10 with a win over Hardy on Sunday night. Hardy has lost three straight fights, and both fighters have promised to put on a Fight of the Night-caliber performance – and both are likely to come out looking for fireworks now that they know it's Lytle's last rodeo.

That news may have been part of the reason White decided to up the ante on Sunday night's bonus amounts. Previous UFC on Versus shows have featured bonuses in the amounts of $40,000 and $50,000. For Sunday's card, the post-fight bonus awards will be $65,000, putting it on par with UFC pay-per-view amounts. Lytle has won eight post-fight bonus awards, including Fight of the Night for his lost loss, at UFC 127, to Ebersole. At one point, Lytle won bonus awards in four straight fights and seven of eight appearances. In total, he has five Fight of the Night awards, two Submission of the Night bonuses and one Knockout of the Night. The eight total ties him with Anderson Silva for the UFC record, and he'll likely be hoping to take the lead on Sunday.

Though Lytle said he thought a run at a title wasn't beyond reach for him, he also told MMA Fighting on Friday (http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/08/12/regrouped-after-february-upset-loss-chris-lytle-not-ruling-out/) that retirement had indeed crossed his mind after his loss to Ebersole.

"After this last fight, I had a lot of injuries and that was one of the things I was contemplating," Lytle said. "I don't want to keep fighting if I can't perform like I've been doing. So I took some time off, hung out with the family a little bit and let my body heal up. I actually got to relax a little bit – it was pretty cool. I had about a month where I didn't do too much. That's a rarity."

Apart from his UFC career, which at 20 fights is one of the most active in the promotion's history, and more than 30 fights outside the promotion in a career spanning back to 1999, Lytle is also a former professional boxer who went 13-1-1 between 2002-2005, mostly near his Indianapolis home. He is also a full-time firefighter in Indianapolis, and recently announced he had formed an exploratory committee to consider a run for the Indiana legislature.

But it is his family life, with four children, that he told NBC Sports played the biggest factor.

"I just feel like I have a lot of things in my head that I feel guilty about," Lytle said. "I have a great time fighting, and I love fighting - I want to do it all the time - but I think that sometimes it's time for me to not think about what I want and start thinking about what's best for other people."

Lytle's MMA swan song takes place at the Bradley Center in downtown Milwaukee on Sunday. The main card airs live on Versus at 9 p.m. Eastern. In addition to the possibility of one last bonus check, a win by Lytle would also get him a new 2012 Harley-Davidson Blackline motorcycle. The UFC announced Friday that the main event winner will get the bike as a bonus. Harley-Davidson is based in Milwaukee and is one of the UFC's top-tier sponsors.

Ben Henderson Hasn't Forgotten Pettis, but Comfortable With His UFC Standing

MILWAUKEE – Alanis Morrisette would call it ironic. Don't you think?

Eight months after taking an Anthony Pettis (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/anthony/pettis/1069/) slapshot of a foot to the face, in what many consider the greatest single move in MMA (http://www.mmafighting.com/) history, Ben Henderson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ben/henderson/1066/) has to show up and fight in Milwaukee – Pettis' home turf, where he is the city's most beloved fighter.

But even though he is permanently tattooed with the memory of that Pettis kick off the cage at WEC 53 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/WEC53/) in December, one minute before Pettis took his WEC lightweight title and retired it, Henderson is just fine with how his career has progressed so far.

"I've taken baby steps all along in my career and it's prepared me for the next step in all my fights," Henderson said Friday after a short workout in Milwaukee. "I think this is just the next step, to be honest. It's a good opportunity for me to play upset and I'm excited for it."

If he's to play upset, as he says, it won't be a major one. Despite Jim Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jim/miller/509/)'s seven-fight winning streak, and an almost certain lightweight title shot if he beats Henderson on Sunday at UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ufc+on+versus+5/), Miller is only about a 1.5-to-1 favorite in the fight.

Henderson (13-2, 1-0 UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc)) rebounded from his loss at the WEC's final event, which came in his backyard just outside Phoenix, and topped Mark Bocek (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/mark/bocek/452/) at UFC 129 in Toronto in April. He said there were no first-time UFC jitters thanks to those baby steps he's taken all along. But now he believes all the pressure is on Miller (20-2, 9-1 UFC).

"I think the onus is on him," Henderson said. "If he wins, he for sure gets a title shot. If I win, good for me, but it's not a guaranteed title shot."

As for Pettis, who lost to Clay Guida (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/clay/guida/459/) in June in his UFC debut after being put on hold for his immediate UFC lightweight title shot thanks to the Frankie Edgar-Gray Maynard (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/gray/maynard/374/) draw, Henderson hasn't forgotten the kick. And he wonders if Pettis was exposed by Guida.

"He did a spectacular move, got a lot of attention for it, he's a great fighter – but a lot of times when you do those flashy moves, you're elevated a little higher than your actual standing, perhaps," Henderson said. "He was really highly elevated, and Clay Guida found a weakness in his game. I'm sure right now Pettis is in his gym working on his takedown defense."

Henderson isn't sure how the Milwaukee fans will react to him Sunday. But he is sure he'll get a chance for payback against Pettis, or at least his right foot.

"Pettis' biggest highlight reel is against my face," Henderson said. "So his fans know who I am. ... Before I retire, he and I will dance again. I've got something special in store for that fight."

Henderson fights Jim Miller on Sunday in the co-main event of UFC on Versus 5 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The main card airs live on Versus at 9 p.m. Eastern.
