UFC Results: Duane Ludwig Beats Amir Sadollah

Amir Sadollah has been carefully brought along by the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) since winning The Ultimate Fighter three years ago, but on Sunday night his career progress took a step backward at the hands of Duane Ludwig (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/duane/ludwig/352/).

Ludwig showed that he was a superior striker -- and exposed some flaws in Sadollah's game -- by winning a unanimous decision at the UFC Live on Versus event in Milwaukee. All three judges scored the fight 29-28 for Ludwig, who took control early on and managed to hold on despite appearing to run out of steam late in the fight.

In the first round Ludwig's Muay Thai striking had Sadollah in a lot of trouble: Ludwig hit Sadollah with punches, kicks, knees and elbows that had Sadollah reeling, and it was all Sadollah could do to grab on to Ludwig and survive the round.

In the second Ludwig continued to batter Sadollah standing up, landing combinations of punches to Sadollah's head that Sadollah couldn't answer. By the end of the second round Sadollah's face was badly bruised and swollen, and it was clear that Ludwig was up two rounds to none.

At the start of the third Sadollah tried to shake things up with a takedown, and he did succeed in getting Ludwig down to the ground. Sadollah also began to land more punches in the third round, while avoiding taking damage of his own. But Sadollah never came close to ending the fight, and just winning the third wasn't enough for Sadollah, whose professional MMA (http://www.mmafighting.com/) record drops to 5-3 with the loss.

Ludwig improves to 21-11 with the victory, and he's now on a two-fight winning streak in the UFC.

Donald Cerrone Pounds Out Charles Oliveira

Donald Cerrone put on an absolutely sensational show at Sunday night's UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) event, winning a first-round technical knockout over a very good opponent in Charles Oliveira (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/charles/oliveira/1531/).

Cerrone, who moved to the UFC this year after fighting in World Extreme Cagefighting, is now 3-0 inside the Octagon, and he's rising up the ranks in the welterweight division.

"This was a perfect fight for me to show my skills," Cerrone said afterward.

After a couple minutes of Cerrone and Oliveira feeling each other out on their feet, Cerrone began to push the pace of his striking, and he landed a hard punch to Oliveira's midsection. That hurt Oliveira, and Cerrone followed up with a hard knee just as Oliveira was falling onto his back.

Mindful that Oliveira is an excellent Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner, Cerrone at first hesitated to follow Oliveira to the ground. But after a moment Cerrone stood over Oliveira and rained down punches, and when Oliveira did nothing more than cover up his head, the referee stepped in to stop the fight, 3 minutes and 1 second into the first round.

For Oliveira, the last several months have been a huge disappointment: Not long ago he was 14-0 and considered one of the sport's truly elite young fighters, but in his last three fights he has two losses and a no contest. But Cerrone is on a five-fight winning streak and looking better than ever.

Ben Henderson Whips Jim Miller

Jim Miller's seven-fight winning streak has come to an end, and Ben Henderson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ben/henderson/1066/) has made an emphatic statement that he belongs in the Octagon with the upper echelon of UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) lightweights.

Henderson, the former World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight champion, dominated Miller in the second and third rounds of their fight on Sunday night, earning the biggest victory of his career while also derailing any hope Miller had of fighting for the lightweight title any time soon.

The judges scored the fight 30-26, 30-27 and 29-28 for Henderson.

In the first round both fighters showed off some high-level grappling, topped by Miller clinging to Henderson while attempting a standing side choke. One judge gave Miller the round because he had several good submission attempts, although Henderson did a nice job of fighting them off, and Henderson landed the harder strikes in the round.

The second round, however, clearly went to Henderson: Early in the second they went to the ground with Henderson on top, and Henderson landed several hard punches and elbows, opening up a cut next to Miller's right eye. Miller was relentless in his submission attempts, going for a knee bar and a heel hook, but Henderson continued to rain the strikes down on Miller and had Miller badly hurt by the end of the second.

Miller tagged Henderson with a hard punch early in the third round, but Henderson recovered quickly and took Miller down against the cage. From there Henderson showed that he was the stronger man, staying on top and in control and hurting Miller with hard punches and elbows. Blood was getting into Miller's eyes and making it hard for him to see, and as the fight ended Henderson celebrated, knowing he had won.

Chris Lytle Adds to Record, Takes Two Bonus Awards at UFC on Versus 5

MILWAUKEE – It's really no surprise at all, is it, that Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ChrisLytle/), in his swan song, would steal the show and take home not just one, but two post-fight bonus awards?

Lytle, who was a bonus machine in his time with the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC/), at one time winning four straight and seven in eight fights, added to his record total on Saturday night at UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFConVersus5/) in Milwaukee with a pair of bonuses – Fight of the Night and Submission of the Night.

UFC president Dana White (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/DanaWhite/) made the bonuses official after the card at the Bradley Center. For his TKO win over Charles Oliveira (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/CharlesOliveira/) on the main card, Donald Cerrone (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/DonaldCerrone/) won Knockout of the Night. Each of the bonuses was worth $65,000 – a record for a UFC event on free TV.

Lytle announced late Saturday that his main event against Dan Hardy (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/DanHardy/) would be his final fight, electing to hang up the gloves after more than 50 career fights. Though he entered the fight with Hardy with a sub-.500 UFC record at 9-10, it was his propensity to always deliver exciting fights that endeared him to the fans, fellow fighters and his UFC bosses.

With the two bonuses, Lytle ends his career with 10 in 20 UFC fights, pulling ahead of middleweight champion Anderson Silva (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/AndersonSilva/), who was tied with him at eight going into Sunday night. Lytle also won a new 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which had been promised to the winner of the main event. MIlwaukee is home to Harley, one of the UFC's top-tier sponsors.

Lytle and Hardy both promised to stand and trade throughout the fight – and they did for 14 minutes, until Hardy inexplicably shot for a takedown. Lytle used that takedown to latch on to a guillotine, and Hardy was forced to tap.

Earlier on the main card, Cerrone, who has been down on himself for what he claims are notoriously slow starts, finally got out to a fast start against Oliveira. He pounded the highly touted prospect out just about three minutes into the first round.

Henderson is een super vechter! Gevecht met Peddis was vorig jaar voor mij het gevecht van het jaar. Cool om te zien dat hij het ook helemaal waarmaakt in de UFC. Rematch met Peddis en winnaar een titleshot.

UFC on Versus 5 Fighter Salaries: Chris Lytle Earns $70,000

Chris Lytle (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/chris/lytle/217/) made $70,000 for his submission of Dan Hardy (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/dan/hardy/492/) in his retirement bout on Sunday – and then another $130,000 in bonus money.

Lytle made $35,000 to show and an additional $35,000 for his win bonus at the UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ufc+on+versus+5/) card in Milwaukee. Lytle was the card's biggest earner. Hardy made $25,000 in the loss to Lytle in the night's main event.

The salary figures were released to MMA Fighting on Tuesday by Wisconsin's Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Lytle announced the night before the fight that it would be his last, retiring after more than 50 career fights. After 14 minutes of standing and trading with Hardy, Lytle caught Hardy in a guillotine defending a takedown attempt. Hardy tapped out, and Lytle was given a $65,000 Submission of the Night bonus as well as one for Fight of the Night. After 20 career fights in the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc), Lytle finished just 10-10 – but with a record 10 fight night bonus awards.

The night's second biggest earner was Ed Herman (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ed/herman/419/), who made $52,000 for his submission win over Kyle Noke (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/kyle/noke/1549/). Herman caught Noke in a heel hook, forcing Noke to tap – and doing what appeared to be severe damage to his knee. Herman was likely a lock for Submission of the Night and another $65,000 before Hardy shot on Lytle.

The other biggest payouts on the card, which was the UFC's debut in Wisconsin, were Donald Cerrone (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/donald/cerrone/1076/), who made $44,000 for his TKO of Charles Oliveira (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/charles/oliveira/1531/) and another $65,000 for Knockout of the Night; Joseph Benavidez (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/joseph/benavidez/911/), who pocketed $43,000 for a unanimous decision win over Eddie Wineland (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/EddieWineland/); Jim Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/JimMiller/), who made $35,000 in his loss to Ben Henderson (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/BenHenderson/); and Henderson and Cole Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ColeMiller/), who each made $34,000 for their wins.

The purses (show money/win bonus) are listed below. They do not include post-fight bonus totals, non-disclosed "locker room" bonuses or any sponsorship monies.

Edwin Figueroa: $6,000 ($6,000 win bonus) def. Jason Reinhardt: $6,000

UFC on Versus 5 Medical Suspensions: Jim Miller Among Six Fighters Out Indefinitely

Thirteen fighters from Sunday's UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ufc+on+versus+5/) card were given medical suspensions following their fights by Wisconsin's Department of Safety and Professional Services, which oversees MMA and boxing in the state.

The medical suspensions were released to MMA Fighting on Tuesday. Six fighters are suspended indefinitely by the commission, pending medical tests. A total of 11 fighters were given no suspensions.

Among the most high-profile suspensions, co-main event fighter Jim Miller (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jim/miller/509/) is out indefinitely, as are Amir Sadollah (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/amir/sadollah/416/), Duane Ludwig (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/duane/ludwig/352/) and CB Dollaway (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/cb/dollaway/507/).

Miller must undergo a physical and a CT scan before he will be cleared to fight again. Taking a seven-fight winning streak into his fight with Ben Henderson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/ben/henderson/1066/), and with a likely title shot up for grabs if he won, Miller was dominated by Henderson, a former WEC lightweight champ.

Sadollah, who lost a unanimous decision to Ludwig, must have a neurological exam and CT scan before he can compete again. Ludwig, one of just four winners on the card to get suspensions, must undergo a physical, a CT scan and have his right hand cleared before his next fight.

Dollaway had a strong first round against Jared Hamman (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/jared/hamman/1140/), and may have been close to getting the fight stopped late in the round. But Hamman survived and turned things around in the second to get a TKO of the former runner-up of "The Ultimate Fighter." Dollaway is suspended indefinitely, pending a neurological exam and CT scan.

Also out indefinitely are T.J. O'Brien (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tj/o'brien/1691/), who suffered injuries to his ribs and leg, and Kyle Noke (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/kyle/noke/1549/), who tapped to a heel hook from Ed Herman (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/EdHerman/) that wound up doing what appeared to be severe damage to his knee. Noke needed help from the cage and will need an MRI on his knee before he is allowed to return.

The full list of medical suspensions is below.

Jason Reinhardt: Suspended 30 days for mandatory medical rest period from a TKO.

T.J. O'Brien: Suspended indefinitely for rib, leg injuries.

Cole Miller: Suspended 30 days for right hand injury.

Alex Caceres: Suspended 30 days for mandatory medical rest period.

Jim Hettes: Suspended 30 days or mandatory medical rest period and a head laceration.

Kyle Noke: Suspended indefinitely, must have MRI on knee.

CB Dollaway: Suspended indefinitely, must have neurological exam, CT scan.

Duane Ludwig: Suspended indefinitely, must have physical exam, CT scan and must have right hand cleared by x-ray.

Amir Sadollah: Suspended indefinitely, must have neurological exam, CT scan.

Charles Oliveira: Suspended 30 days for mandatory medical rest period.

Ben Henderson: Suspended 30 days, must have elbow cleared by x-ray.

Jim Miller: Suspended indefinitely, must have physical exam, CT scan.

Dan Hardy: Suspended 30 days for mandatory medical rest period.

Following UFC on Versus 5 Loss, Jason Reinhardt Released From UFC

Jason Reinhardt (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/JasonReinhardt/) hoped to reinvigorate himself by dropping down to bantamweight for his last fight.

He may have done that, but his loss to Edwin Figueroa (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/edwin/figueroa/1782/) at UFC on Versus 5 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/ufc+on+versus+5/) 10 days ago was enough for the promotion to hand him his walking papers. Sources close to Reinhardt told MMA Fighting on Tuesday that Reinhardt has been released by the UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc).

Reinhardt, who was the oldest active fighter in the UFC, was in his second stint with the promotion. All three of his career losses came in UFC fights.

Reinhardt (20-3, 0-3 UFC) first fought in the UFC at UFC 78 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC78/) in November 2007. After starting his career 18-0 fighting mostly in his native Illinois, as well as Iowa and Indiana, Reinhardt was picked up by the UFC for a fight against Joe Lauzon (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/joe/lauzon/524/). Lauzon submitted him just 1:14 into the first round.

After picking up two more wins on regional shows, Reinhardt again got the call from Zuffa, this time to fight Tiequan Zhang (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/tiequan/zhang/1636/) at WEC 51 in a lightweight fight on short notice. But he had to withdraw from the bout when he failed his eye exam.

Reinhardt got his shot at Zhang several months later at UFC 127 in February – with both he and Zhang dropping to featherweight for the fight. Zhang submitted him 48 seconds into the first round.

But despite another quick UFC loss, Reinhardt got another shot – and reportedly at the urging of matchmaker Joe Silva, dropped to bantamweight. Against Figueroa at UFC on Versus 5 earlier this month, Reinhardt heard the boo-birds when he circled around the outside of the cage for more than a minute without engaging, then taunted Figueroa to engage him and was seen telling him, "I can do this all night." Once Figueroa caught him, Reinhardt needed to be saved by the bell in the first round. And in the second round, Figueroa ended things quickly with a TKO.

In Reinhardt's three UFC fights, he competed in three weight classes for a total of just 7:52 in the Octagon. Reinhardt's fight against Figueroa was just the third time in his career he had seen the second round. Eighteen of his 20 wins have been first-round stoppages, and he has 16 career submission wins. But his success outside the UFC – as what critics have called a can crusher – didn't translate to success in the UFC.

Reinhardt recently began training in Las Vegas with Wanderlei Silva (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/wanderlei/silva/275/)'s Wand Fight Team, and he has said his plan is to move to Las Vegas permanently to continue training.

On his Facebook page, Reinhardt said he plans on getting back to the UFC: "I'm staying positive, recovering, and I will have my (butt) back in the gym ASAP," Reinhardt said. "I love the UFC and how they treated me ... All I have to do is win a couple fights in another organization and I will be back."
