Since signing a deal to bring programming to FOX networks for seven years starting in 2012, UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) president Dana White has repeatedly said that if you're an MMA (http://www.mmafighting.com/) fan, you're going to want to make sure you have access to the FUEL cable station. Until now though, the scope of FUEL's devotion to the UFC has been somewhat unclear.

No longer. On a Wednesday teleconference featuring executives of both FOX Sports and the UFC, it was revealed that FUEL will broadcast over 2,000 hours of UFC programming in 2012, devoting about 25 percent of their entire schedule to all things octagon.

It was just one of several details released regarding the future plans between the new partners. Among the other major revelations is that starting in January, every UFC fight that takes place anywhere around the world will be televised. In the recent past, most undercard fights have only been available online on Facebook.com.

Using the multiple platforms available, the UFC plans to broadcast most live preliminaries on FUEL before the main card begins on pay-per-view, FOX or FX, depending on the specific event. Under the terms of their deal, in 2012, FOX will broadcast four events while FX will host six.

While Saturday night's UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs. dos Santos event will only be one hour, future network television broadcasts will likely increase and feature more than one fight, according to FOX Sports co-president Eric Shanks, who said the network is leaning towards 90-minute blocks and two or three fights per broadcast.

"It's going to be an incredible night, and we just want to make sure we have the time to tell the story about this [Velasquez vs. dos Santos] fight, but going forward you can look forward to longer fight nights on FOX," he said.

White said that he was happy with the time slot and promotion, and noted that complaints about only one fight airing on Saturday night should be muted by promise of the future exposure on multiple platforms.

"We couldn't ask for anything more," he said. "This is like a dream come true. No matter how many fights it is, it's a damn good thing."

While the FOX fights will no doubt gain UFC their biggest audiences and the move to FX is expected to inject new life into The Ultimate Fighter, it seems clear that UFC executives are just as excited about being the anchor programming for FUEL. According to last estimates provided by TV By the Numbers, FUEL is currently available in just over 32 million households, less than a third the number of households that can watch FX. Yet the hope amongst both sides is that UFC programming will help the channel grow and gain wider clearance.

Aside from broadcasting prelim fights, FUEL will air all UFC shoulder programming including Countdown, Primetime, Unleashed, Best of PRIDE, The Ultimate Insider and more.

Asked if the proliferation of UFC programming on the channel would eventually result in it being rebranded as the "UFC channel," White said he was pulling for the possibility. FOX Sports Media Group chairman David Hill said that while FUEL's target demographic would change slightly with the explosion of UFC programming, it would maintain its current name.

FUEL TV will have a bigger UFC presence than initially expected.

In fact FUEL TV general manager George Greenberg today told MMAjunkie.com (http://mmajunkie.com/) (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com
(http://www.mmajunkie.com)) on a media call with company executives that that the FOX-owned cable station will have approximately 25 percent of its content devoted to the UFC beginning in 2012.

Additionally, the channel, which currently is available only in a little more than 32 million homes, will be the new home for prelims that currently stream on Facebook.

Also, as part of the seven-year FOX-UFC deal that officially kicks off in 2012, all of the two-fight "UFC Prelims" special that currently air on Spike TV (after Facebook prelims and prior to pay-per-view events) instead will be shifted to FOX-owned FX. Both Spike TV and FX are available in approximately 100 million homes.

In other words, instead of an event airing/streaming on Facebook then Spike TV and then PPV, it'll air on FUEL TV, then FX and then PPV.

Facebook, which became the home for previously untelevised prelim fights earlier this year, won't stream any live bouts in 2012.

In addition to the prelim fights, FUEL TV will feature weigh-in specials (including Friday's for Saturday's UFC on FOX one-hour "teaser" event), "Countdown" and "Primetime" shows, past fights and other specialty programming. Additionally, it'll likely air upcoming international editions of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series (while the regular version of the show moves from Spike TV to FX).

However, though officials initially suggested the channel wouldn't air live events, UFC and FOX executives today said non-PPV overseas events will air live on FUEL TV, as well.

Officials said the FUEL TV events will run approximately three hours, live events on FX will run two hours, and the four annual shows on the FOX network are expected to run 90 minutes.

Streams op het internet vinden van TV is veel makkelijker dan PPV dus toch niet echt slecht nieuws alleen is het jammer dat het niet meer op Facebook is.

UFC, FUEL Still Negotiating Deal for International Editions of TUF

Early Tuesday at a press conference in Rio, UFC (http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc) president Dana White announced Vitor Belfort (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/vitor/belfort/295/) and Wanderlei Silva (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/wanderlei/silva/275/) as coaches on the first-ever international edition of The Ultimate Fighter, which will take place in Brazil.

In the past, White said that international editions of TUF would likely air on FUEL as part of their new wide-ranging deal with FOX-owned networks, but on a Tuesday afternoon teleconference, FUEL executive vice president and general manager George Greenberg said that as of right now, the two sides are still in negotiations to bring the new editions of TUF to air in the U.S.

"Right now, any international edition of The Ultimate Fighter is something we are in discussions with the UFC," he said. "We have no firm deal for TUF Australia or TUF Brazil, or any other TUF show right now.

"We'd love to do this," he added. "I don't think it's going to be an obstacle to get through negotiations."

Greenberg said that he believed the channel, which is already planning 2,000 hours of UFC programming in 2012, still has room to add the international editions of TUF.

Asked to describe the negotiations for the TV properties, he said that the relationship has made for easy communications between the two sides thus far, and that they speak four to five times a day.

"For us, negotiations are sort of easy," he said. "Specifically we're in talks, but I can't tell you what stage. Everything we do with the UFC always will turn out with a healthy ending for both parties. If it's good for the sport, it will be good for the UFC, and it will be great for the FOX Sports media group. I can promise you that."

FUEL will kick off its commitment to its new partner with 24 hours of UFC programming on Jan. 1. On Jan. 3, its weekly news show UFC Tonight premieres at 10 pm, hosted by former WEC announcer Todd Harris and featuring our own Ariel Helwani.

Other UFC on FUEL programming notes:

- Live weigh-in shows begin airing on FUEL on Jan. 13, with UFC 142 (http://www.mmafighting.com/tag/UFC+142/).
- Live event post-fight coverage will feature one-hour shows hosted by Jay Glazer, beginning on Jan. 14 with UFC 142
- FUEL begins televising UFC preliminary fights on Jan. 20, with the undercard of an FX event.
- FUEL will have the right to air the U.S. editions of The Ultimate Fighter 24 hours after original episodes air on FX.
- There will be quarterly "Champion's Roundtable" specials, with past and current titleholders discussing a wide range of MMA (http://www.mmafighting.com/) topics

FUEL is currently available in about 38 million households, but Greenberg said the channel's goal is to house so much UFC programming that fans will demand and receive it from their cable and satellite providers.

"I can guarantee you we're going to become the most wanted channel in the television landscape," he said.
