Thiago Silva vs. Brandon Vera Rematch Booked for UFC on FX 3
Thiago Silva and Brandon Vera will look to settle a previous no contest when the two light heavyweights meet for a rematch at UFC on FX 3 on May 15 in Fairfax, Va., the UFC announced late Wednesday.
At UFC 125 in January 2011, Silva punished Vera for three rounds to win a unanimous decision on the scorecards. However, it turned out Silva falsified his post-fight urine sample by providing urine not consistent with a human's. Silva was fined, suspended for one year and had his win changed to a no contest.
Silva admitted to giving a false sample to hide the presence of banned substances. He explained he suffered a back injury 45 days before the Vera fight and instead of withdrawing, decided to take injections to his back and spine. Silva's drug test failure saved Vera's job. Vera was cut from the UFC after his UFC 125 loss but later rehired when the news came out that Silva falsified his urine sample.
Vera (12-5) returned to action at UFC 137 in October, outpointing Eliot Marshall to a unanimous decision. Silva (14-2) will be fighting for the first time at UFC on FX 3 since his suspension.
The last UFC at the Patriot Center in Fairfax was UFC Fight Night 20: Maynard vs. Diaz in January 2010.

Donald Cerrone vs. Yves Edwards Set for UFC on FX 3
A fight between two lightweights looking to bounce back from tough losses has been announced for the upcoming UFC on FX 3 card.
Donald Cerrone will fight Yves Edwards at UFC on FX 3, which is scheduled for May 15 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.
It isn't immediately clear where on the card Cerrone vs. Edwards will be placed, but it's the type of fight that would likely serve as a main event on a FX card.
Cerrone had by far the biggest year of his mixed martial arts career in 2011, fighting in the Octagon five times and winning the first four before losing to Nate Diaz on Dec. 30. Cerrone won two Fight of the Night bonuses, one Knockout of the Night and one Submission of the Night in 2011 and finished the year making about half a million dollars, but the loss to Diaz at the end of the year left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Edwards fought four times in 2011, going 2-2. In his most recent fight, on December 3, he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Tony Ferguson.
Edit: Brandon Vera was briefly scheduled to face Thiago Silva in a rematch of their January 2011 bout. However, Vera was forced out of the bout with an injury. Igor Pokrajac stepped in to fight Silva.
Dustin Poirier vs. 'Korean Zombie' Tapped as UFC on Fuel 3 Main Event

After trading verbal barbs with Chan Sung Jung throughout the week, the two fast-rising featherweights have been tapped as the main event of UFC on Fuel 3, set for May 15 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. According to UFC officials, the headlining tilt will be a three-round affair.
Additional confirmed bouts for the card include a lightweight scrap between Donald Cerrone and Yves Edwards, as well as Thiago Silva's long-awaited return opposite Croatian light heavyweight Igor Pokrajac.
Jung and Poirier are a combined 6-0 under the UFC banner, and each fighter has wasted little time propelling their name into title contention with a series of spectacular performances.
The 24-year-old Jung (12-3), affectionately nicknamed "The Korean Zombie," emerged as a fan-favorite after his thrilling WEC brawl with Leonard Garcia was widely nominated as 2010's "Fight of the Year." Since then the young South Korean has turned in another pair of astonishing performances, debuting the twister submission in a rematch with Garcia and stunning Mark Hominick en route to a seven-second knockout at UFC 140.
Likewise, the 23-year-old Poirier (12-1) has seen his stock skyrocket since announcing his 145-pound debut in a unanimous decision win against top prospect Josh Grispi. With a five-fight winning streak at his back, including dominating victories over Max Holloway, Pablo Garza, and Jason Young, "The Diamond" is fast-approaching a shot at the UFC featherweight strap.
