Go back to the future and learn the basics with 4th degree black belt Steve Maxwell.

Modern Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques are always evolving and while it's important to keep apprised of new skills, many BJJ players are building new skills upon weak foundations. Steve's own foundational skills were built as a competitive wrestler and he competed successfully in Division 1 NCAA (the highest US level). Steve learned his Jiu Jitsu techniques directly from the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (the Gracie family) and the Gracies consider him one of their very finest instructors of these skills. Steve was in fact the first North American certified in the unique Gracie teaching style. Maxwell is the father of World Champion and four times Pan American Champion Zak Maxwell and his ex-wife DC Maxwell is also a black belt under Saulo Ribeiro with several tournament accomplishments.

The tournament style of Jiu Jitsu, while very fun, has eroded upon the combat effectiveness of the original martial art. Many sport players have lost sight of the fact that the original purpose of Jiu Jitsu is self defense against a bigger/stronger/faster assailant. If anyone doubts the effectiveness of basic Jiu Jitsu technique, merely observe the success of Roger Gracie, who has submitted all the world's top BJJ black belts with the techniques every blue belt knows - or do they? The devil is in the details!

Who this seminar is NOT for:
- people looking for flying armlocks
- 50-50 guard
- X-guard
- rubber guard (or any other move-of-the-month technique)

Who this seminar IS for:
- those wishing to refine their skill set of foundational Jiu Jitsu moves
- those wishing to learn better throws, takedowns, submissions and defenses (remember: every fight starts on the feet)
- anyone wishing to understand the cross-link between tournament skills and street defense (Steve himself uses the same techniques for both and will show YOU how too)
