Hector Lombard vs. Rousimar Palhares to Headline UFC on FX 6 in Australia

Cuban-Australian middleweight Hector Lombard's next fight will take place on familiar ground.

Lombard will meet Rousimar Palhares in the main event of UFC on FX 6 on Dec. 14 in Australia, UFC president Dana White announced on Friday. According to UFC officials, a city and venue in Australia has yet to be finalized to host the event.

While not yet officially announced, the event is expected to also showcase the lightweight and welterweight finals of The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. UK, as well as a lightweight fight between coaches Ross Pearson and George Sotiropoulos.

Lombard (31-3-1, 1 NC), the former Bellator middleweight champion, lost his UFC debut in July to Tim Boetsch via split decision. This will mark his 23rd fight in Australia.

Palhares (14-4) most recently lost via first-round TKO to Alan Belcher at UFC on FOX 3 in May. He was supposed to fight Yushin Okami at UFC 150 last month but an injured knee forced him out of the bout.

UFC on FX 6 will mark the promotion's fourth event in Australia.

Sotiropolous vs. Pearson Scheduled for UFC on FX 6

A battle between Australia's George Sotiropolous (14-4) and England's Ross Pearson (13-6) is being earmarked for UFC on FX 6, which takes place on Dec. 15, at a venue yet to be made official in Australia.
The bout would be the second one confirmed for the show that was announced earlier this week, underneath the Rousimar Palhares vs. Hector Lombard middleweight main event.

The bout, confirmed Saturday by a UFC official, was expected as soon as the date of the show was announced. Sotiropolous, originally from Geelong, Victoria, Australia, and Pearson, from Sunderland, England, are the respective head coaches of the Australia vs. U.K. - The Footies," season of The Ultimate Fighter. The reality show was taped in Sydney, Australia. The Dec. 15 show doubles as the season finale, where the coaches would be expected to fight.

The season debuts on Sept. 19 on FX in Australia. It was expected the show would also be airing in the U.K., but no broadcast deal has been announced. The show will not air on television in North America, but will be available on the Internet concurrent with the Australian broadcast.

Both men are similar in the sense they first made their mark on the reality show in the United States, and then changed weight classes. Sotiropolous was on season six, which aired in late 2007, losing in the semifinals as a welterweight. The Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt moved to lightweight early in his UFC tenure. After winning seven fights in a row, he had become Australia's biggest MMA star, particularly after his win over former TUF champion Joe Stevenson on UFC's debut show in the country at UFC 110.

He was on the verge of a title shot when he lost a decision on Feb. 27, 2011, in Sydney, to Dennis Siver. He followed with a :59 knockout loss to Rafael dos Anjos on July 2, 2011 in Las Vegas. He hasn't fought since, missing a February date with Takanori Gomi due to an injury.

Pearson won season nine of Ultimate Fighter, the U.S. vs. U.K season, winning a decision over fellow British fighter Andre Winner. He went 3-2 as a lightweight before moving down to featherweight in December. Pearson lost his most recent fight to Cub Swanson on June 22 in Atlantic City, N.J., but moves back up to lightweight for this fight.

The show will take place on a Saturday morning and early afternoon in Australia for live airing in prime time in North America on Friday, Dec. 14. It will be part of two straight nights for UFC on FX in the U.S., since the finals of the U.S. version of Ultimate Fighter will take place on Dec. 15, from Las Vegas.

UFC on FX 6 Will Be Held at Gold Coast Convention Centre

The finals of the first Ultimate Fighter reality show specifically geared for the Australian and U.K. markets was announced for Dec. 15 in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia.
UFC announced earlier Tuesday to the Australian media that the show would take place at the 6,000-seat Gold Coast Convention and Entertainment Centre. Broadbeach is a suburb of Gold Coast, a major beach side resort city in the state of Queensland. It's located about 40 miles away from Brisbane, the country's third-largest city, in a metropolitan area of about 3 million people. This would be the first Australian UFC show held outside of Sydney. Australia has become one of UFC's strongest international markets both for live shows and its strongest pay-per-view market outside of North America.

The live show takes place on a Saturday morning and early afternoon in Australia, so it can air live in prime time in North America on Friday, Dec. 14, on FX. It will be part of two straight nights of Ultimate Fighter finals on FX, as the U.S. version airs the next night.

The announced main event sends Hector Lombard (31-3-1, 1 no contest), who lived in Australia for years while starting his MMA career, facing Brazilian leg submission specialist Rousimar Palhares (23-4).

Interestingly, in Australia, the show is being billed as "UFC on FX: Sotiropolous vs. Pearson," so for the local audience, it's the battle of the two coaches of the season that starts airing this week that is being promoted as the main event.

Australia team coach George Sotiropolous (14-4) was the favorite of the local crowd when UFC debuted in that country in 2010. Pearson (15-6) coaches the U.K. team. Both originally made their names on the U.S. version of the reality show, with Pearson winning in the U.S. vs. U.K. season. Pearson moves back up to lightweight after losing to Cub Swanson at featherweight on June 22 in Atlantic City, N.J. Sotiropolous was in contention for a lightweight title shot until a loss to Dennis Siver on Feb. 27, 2011, in Sydney. He was then knocked out in 59 seconds by Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 132 on July 2, 2011, in Las Vegas, and hasn't fought since.

The reality show debuts on Wednesday on Australia's version of FX. In the U.K., the shows will air on the U.K.'s version of ESPN. In the North American market, the show will be available starting on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. on UFC.com and on the UFC's You Tube channel.

The reality show will have competitions in both the welterweight and lightweight divisions, with the finals hosting the two championship fights.

UFC also announced Canadian Krzysztof Soszynski (22-13-1) facing Brazilian Ednaldo Oliveira (13-1-1, 1 no contest) in a light heavyweight battle.

Joey Beltran vs. Anthony Perosh added to UFC on FX 6

A light heavyweight match between Australian jiu-jitsu expert Anthony Perosh (13-7) and brawler Joey Beltran (14-8) has been added to the UFC on FX 6 show that takes place on Dec. 15.

The event takes place in the morning and early afternoon in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia, and will air live on Dec. 14 in prime time in the U.S. It will serve as the finals of "The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. U.K." Two tournament finals will be on the show, which is headlined by the coach's battle between Australia's George Sotiropolous and the U.K.'s Ross Pearson. A co-headliner pits Hector Lombard against Rousimar Palhares.

The UFC announced the match on Tuesday.

Both Perosh and Beltran fought previously as heavyweights. The 40-year-old Perosh had won three UFC bouts in a row since moving back to light-heavyweight before being knocked out in seven seconds by Ryan Jimmo at UFC 149 on July 21 in Calgary. It was among the fastest knockouts in UFC history.

Beltran was a cult favorite as a heavyweight who was involved in back-and-forth slugfests, often more back than forth, where he was noted for having amazing durability. The San Diego-based "Mexicutioner" has
taken some major beatings in a lot of fights, including most recently in a decision loss to James Te Huna on July 11 that was Beltran's light-heavyweight debut. Still, he's only been stopped by punches
once in his career, by heavy hitter Lavar Johnson.

But Beltran has lost five of his last six UFC fights, and even with his reputation for entertaining fights, his back may be against the wall with this bout.

Mike Pierce replaces Kyle Noke, meets Seth Baczynski at UFC on FX 6

After losing original opponent Kyle Noke (20-6-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) due to an injury, Seth Baczynski (17-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has a new opponent for December: Mike Pierce (15-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC).

UFC officials today announced the new welterweight bout.

The fight is part of UFC on FX 6, which takes place Saturday, Dec. 15, at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia.

The event's main card airs live on FX (on Friday, Dec. 14, in the U.S. due to the time difference) following prelims on FUEL TV.

It's not clear where Pierce vs. Baczynski will be placed on the lineup.

Pierce is fresh off a come-from-behind second-round knockout of Aaron Simpson at UFC on FX 5. The victory was Pierce's third in his past four fights. Pierce, in fact, is 6-2 in his past eights, and the losses both came via split decision to contenders Johny Hendricks and Josh Koscheck.

Baczynski, meanwhile, is on a solid 4-0 run in the UFC with three stoppages, and he's 6-0 when including fights outside the organization. At UFC 152, Baczynski stopped Simeon Thoresen with a first-round knockout. He also beat Lance Benoist, Matt Brown and Clay Harvison in the UFC during his current streak.

UFC on FX 6 loses Anthony Perosh to nasty toe injury

UFC on FX 6 has lost one of its key fighters.

Australian light heavyweight Anthony Perosh (13-7 MMA, 3-4 UFC), who was slated to fight in his home country next month, has been forced out of a bout with Joey Beltran (14-8 MMA, 3-5 UFC).

A nasty toe injury is to blame.

According to Australian journalist Adam Ireland, Perosh suffered a horrific broken toe during a training session. Perosh recently had surgery and hopes to resume training in four to six weeks, according to Ireland.

No replacement has been named for the event, which takes place Dec. 15 at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. The event's main card airs live on FX (on Dec. 14 in the U.S. due to the time difference) following prelims on FUEL TV.

Perosh had put together a three-fight UFC win streak following stoppage victories over Tom Blackledge, Cyrille Diabate and Nick Penner. However, back in July at UFC 149, he suffered a stunning seven-second knockout loss to promotional newcomer Ryan Jimmo.

Beltran, a former UFC heavyweight, received his walking papers after a rough 1-4 skid in the organization earlier this year. After an outside win in his light-heavyweight debut, he returned to the UFC but suffered a unanimous-decision loss to 205-pounder James Te Huna at UFC on FUEL TV 4.

The latest UFC on FX 6 card includes:
Ross Pearson vs. George Sotiropoulos
Hector Lombard vs. Rousimar Palhares
"The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. UK" welterweight final
"The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. UK" lightweight final
Seth Baczynski vs. Mike Pierce
Hacran Dias vs. Chad Mendes

Igor Pokrajac replaces injured Anthony Perosh against Joey Beltran

One day after losing an opponent, Joey Beltran has a new foe.

The San Diego-based slugger known as "The Mexicutioner" was originally slated to meet Australian Anthony Perosh at UFC on FX 6 on Dec. 14 in Gold Coast, Australia. But Perosh had to pull out of the fight after suffering a gruesome broken toe in training.

Instead, Beltran will face Igor Pokrajac. The UFC announced the news Tuesday via Twitter.

Beltran is 14-8 in his career and 4-5 in the UFC. His most recent fight was a unanimous-decision loss in a brawl against James Te Huna on July 11, which earned Fight of the Night honors.

Pokrajac, meanwhile, is 29-5 overall and 4-4 in the UFC. The Croatian light heavyweight's most recent bout was submission loss to Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 152.

Brad Scott vs. Robert Whittaker tourney final joins UFC on FX 6

The welterweight-tournament final is set for "The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. U.K."

Following this week's new episode of the show, also dubbed "TUF: Smashes," Brad Scott (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Robert Whittaker (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) have emerged as finalists.

They now meet at next week's UFC on FX 6 event, which takes place Dec. 15 at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. The event's main card airs live on FX (on Dec. 14 in the U.S. due to the time difference) following prelims on FUEL TV.

Scott vs. Whittaker will be part of the main card, as well will the lightweight-tourney final, which will be determined next week.

Scott, who represented Team U.K. on the international edition of the UFC's long-running reality series, advanced to the final with tourney wins over Team Australia fighters Xavier Lucas and Benny Alloway, both via decision. Prior to joining the show, the 23-year-old was riding a six-fight win streak with six stoppages. His most recent pro bout came in March, when he knocked out Mok Rahman at Cage Warriors Fight Night 4.

Whittaker, meanwhile, knocked out Team U.K.'s Luke Newman and Team Australia's Xavier Lucas to make the tourney final. Prior to joining the show, the 21-year-old had fought primarily for the Australian-based CFC organization. Like Scott, all of Whittaker's pro wins have come via stoppage. However, in his most recent pro appearance, he dropped a decision to Jesse Juarez (18-8) at CFC 21.

The latest UFC on FX 6 card now includes:

Ross Pearson vs. George Sotiropoulos
Hector Lombard vs. Rousimar Palhares

Eddie Mendez out of UFC on FX 6 with injury, Cody Donovan steps in

Eddie Mendez's UFC debut will have to wait a bit longer.

The undefeated middleweight prospect today announced a shoulder injury has forced him out of next week's UFC on FX 6 event. His original opponent, Nick Penner (11-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), now meets promotional newcomer Cody Donovan (7-2 MMA, 0-0 BFC).

UFC on FX 6 takes place Dec. 15 at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. The event's main card airs live on FX (on Dec. 14 in the U.S. due to the time difference) following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.

Mendez vs. Donovan is expected to be part of the prelims.

The Colorado-based Donovan is riding a three-fight win streak with four victories in his past five fights. One of the wins came over Brian Albin at Bellator 38. Donovan, who owns three knockouts and three submissions in seven career wins, most recently submitted Peter Nolan at Instinct MMA 4 in June.

Penner, meanwhile, is a veteran of the Canadian fight circuit who signed with the UFC earlier this year after winning eight straight fights, six via stoppage. However, in his promotional debut, he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Anthony Perosh at UFC on FX 2. He then was slated to fight Tom DeBlass at UFC on FUEL TV 4 but ultimately scratched from the July card with an undisclosed injury.

Hacran Dias out at UFC on FX 6, promotion seeking new opponent for Chad Mendes

Nova Uniao fighter Hacran Dias (21-1-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has been forced out of next week's UFC on FX 6 event.

MMAjunkie has learned from sources close to the fighter that Dias suffered an undisclosed injury in training and has been forced to withdraw from his planned appearance.

UFC officials have yet to announce the change, but sources close to the event indicated a search for a replacement opponent for Chad Mendes (12-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is currently underway.

Featuring a headliner of Ross Pearson vs. George Sotiropoulos and the final fights of "TUF: Smashes," UFC on FX 6 takes place Dec. 15 at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. The event's main card airs live on FX (on Dec. 14 in the U.S. due to the time difference) following prelims on FUEL TV.

Mendes fought most recently at this past July's UFC 148 event and delivered a vicious body shot to Cody McKenzie that brought him a 31-second TKO. It was the Team Alpha Male fighter's first appearance since a KO loss to current featherweight champ Jose Aldo at UFC 142, which was the first setback of Mendes' career. He went unbeaten in four fights for the now-defunct WEC and was 2-0 in the octagon before meeting Aldo.

Dias boasts an impressive ledger and has lost just once in his professional career. The Brazilian made his octagon debut at UFC 147 and outpointed Yuri Alcantara, extending his current win streak to nine fights. A timetable for his return was not immediately established.

Yaotzin Meza replaces Hacran Dias, meets Chad Mendes at Friday's UFC on FX 6

Yaotzin Meza (18-7 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is a late replacement for Hacran Dias (21-1-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and makes his promotional debut against fellow featherweight Chad Mendes (12-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) this week at UFC on FX 6.

MMAjunkie first reported Dias' scratch from the card due to a shoulder injury, and UFC officials recently confirmed Meza as a replacement.

UFC on FX 6 takes place Saturday at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. The event's main card airs live on FX (on Friday in the U.S. due to the time difference) following prelims on FUEL TV.

Mendes vs. Meza is in the featured slot of the FUEL TV-televised prelims.

Meza, who trains with the likes of UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and former WEC champ Jamie Varner at The MMA Lab in Arizona, turned pro in 2006 and has fought primarily with Rage in the Cage. A recent six-fight win streak came to an end in an April with a TKO loss to Andres Quintana. Eleven of his 18 wins have come via stoppage.

Mendes fought most recently in July at UFC 148 and delivered a vicious body shot to Cody McKenzie that brought him a 31-second TKO win. It was the Team Alpha Male fighter's first appearance since a KO loss to current featherweight champ Jose Aldo at UFC 142, which was the first setback of Mendes' career.
