Foto's Muay Thai Boran seminars Suphan Chabairam

[Boran]

Van 29 september tot 4 oktober was de Thaise kampioen, en expert op het gebied van muay boran, Suphan Chabairam in Nederland om seminars te verzorgen. Dit deed hij in het kader van zijn Europese tour die in Nederland begon. Samen met zijn assistente Mami Sato gaf hij les bij 8 sportscholen.

Zij begonnen de les met een speelse warming up die er vooral op was gericht om het voetenwerk te trainen. Daarna kwamen er verschillende muay thai technieken aan bod die per les verschillend waren. Vooral ellebogen, clinchwerk en counters tegen trappen kwamen aan bod.

Na het muay thai gedeelte gingen ze verder met muay boran. Hierin lieten zij duidelijk zien wat het verschil was tussen muay thai en muay boran. Na het vangen van een trap gaf Suphan bijvoorbeeld een elleboog of knie zoals in muay thai gebeurt. Daarna ving hij de trap nog een keer en zette hij een klem, worp of verwurging in zoals je in muay boran leert.

Alle sportscholen en leerlingen waren erg enthousiast en hebben op een speelse manier meer geleerd van muay thai en muay boran. Hieronder staat een selectie van de foto's. De rest van de foto's is te vinden op www.dmbf.nl (http://www.dmbf.nl).

Muay Boran blijft voor mij de mooiste martial art om naar te kijken. Klopt het dat alle thaise indigenous stylen in muay boran (zoals muay chaiya) samengevoegd zijn tot één stijl?

Muay Boran blijft voor mij de mooiste martial art om naar te kijken. Klopt het dat alle thaise indigenous stylen in muay boran (zoals muay chaiya) samengevoegd zijn tot één stijl?

Dat klopt ja. Boran betekent 'oud' of in het Engels 'ancient'. Het is een verzamelnaam voor de oude vechtstijlen uit Siam, zoals Muay Lopburi, Muay Chaiya, Muay Korat, Muay Thasao etc. Van al deze stijlen apart zijn nog nauwelijks leraren te vinden. Wel is er nog kennis van bepaalde technieken.

Er was soms vrij veel verschil tussen de stijlen. Zo sta je in korat rechtop en maak je veel gebruik van stoten, terwijl chaiya vechters juist laag staan en zich meer hebben gespecialiseerd in het grappling gedeelte. muay lopburi lijkt nog het meest op het huidige muay thai. Veel van de basisprincipes die je leert in mae mai en look mai zijn in al deze stijlen wel hetzelfde, alleen de uitvoering is anders. Vanwege het gebrek aan leraren in elke aparte stijl zijn deze samengevoegd tot muay boran. Wel zie je dat sommige leraren zich meer specialiseren in het staande werk, anderen in het grondwerk en weer anderen in verwurgingen bijvoorbeeld.
