Diego Nunes meets Nik Lentz when UFC returns to Brazil on Jan. 19

A pair of recent featherweight winners will look to put together much-needed win streaks in January.

Diego Nunes (18-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Nik Lentz (24-5-2 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) are set to meet when the UFC returns to Brazil.

As MMAjunkie.com first reported, the UFC will return to Brazil for the Jan. 19 event, though a host city hasn't been determined. The event is expected to be a UFC on FUEL TV or UFC on FX offering, not a pay-per-view card.

Portal do Vale Tudo first reported the bout, though MMAjunkie.com could not immediately confirm the fight with the UFC.

Nunes got back in the win column with a "Fight of the Night" unanimous decision victory over Bart Palaszewski this past month at UFC on FX 5 in Minneapolis. Since coming to the UFC following the merger with the WEC, Nunes has alternated wins and losses and hasn't been able to string together two in a row since he was in the WEC.

The Brazilian, who trains at the renowned Nova Uniao camp, went 4-1 in the WEC before coming to the UFC, where he started with a decision win over former WEC featherweight champ Mike Brown. He followed that with a close decision loss to Kenny Florian, rebounded with a decision win over Manny Gamburyan, then was outpointed by Dennis Siver in April before beating Palaszewski. Nunes' past 10 fights all have ended in decisions, and he is 7-3 over that stretch.

Lentz in August won for the first time in four fights. The American Top Team-trained fighter picked up a first-round TKO of Eiji Mitsuoka at UFC 150. That bout was his debut at featherweight after a drop down from lightweight, where he had been winless in his previous three fights.

Despite winning for the first time in more than a year in August, "The Carny" did have a pair of "Fight of the Night" bonuses in fights against Charles Oliveira and Evan Dunham. Oliveira's original submission win was overturned to a no contest after confirmation of an illegal knee. And in January, the cageside doctor stopped his fight against Evan Dunham after two rounds due to a deep cut.

Before that three-fight skid, though, Lentz was 5-0-1 in the UFC, and he'll be trying to continue his recent momentum in his new division.

The latest card for the UFC's return to Brazil now includes:

Nik Lentz vs. Diego Nunes*
Yuri Alcantara vs. Johnny Eduardo*
Godofredo Castro vs. Milton Vieira*

Johnny Eduardo out, George Roop in vs. Yuri Alcantara at UFC's return to Brazil

A recently reported bantamweight bout targeted for the UFC's return to Brazil has had a change.

According to a report from Sportv.com, Johnny Eduardo (26-9 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is out of a planned fight against Yuri Alcantara (27-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC). In Eduardo's place steps George Roop (12-9-1 MMA, 2-5 UFC), who will return to 135 pounds after a stint at featherweight.

The fight will take place Jan. 19 at the currently unannounced UFC event in Brazil, which is likely to air on either FX or FUEL TV. A host city has yet to be determined.

Roop this past June had to pull out of a fight against Antonio Carvalho at UFC 149 after suffering a training injury. The Season 8 veteran of "The Ultimate Fighter" will be looking to get back in the win column after consecutive losses to Hatsu Hioki and Cub Swanson. The Hioki loss was a controversial split decision, but Swanson left no doubt, knocking Roop out cold.

Alcantara looks to rebound from a unanimous-decision loss to Hacran Dias at UFC 147 in June. The setback snapped a 13-fight win streak, which included UFC wins over Felipe Arantes and Michihiro Omigawa.

Eduardo made his UFC debut at UFC 134 with a decision loss to Raphael Assuncao, but rebounded at UFC on FUEL TV 3 with a decision win over veteran Jeff Curran. He's now 12-1 over his past 13 fights. Eduardo is not believed to be injured, but rather targeted for a different fight on an upcoming card.

Heavyweights Ben Rothwell, Gabriel Gonzaga targeted for Jan. 19 UFC card in Brazil

The card hasn't yet been announced by the UFC, but its return to Brazil continues to fill up.

The latest fight to be headed for the January show is a heavyweight tussle between Gabriel Gonzaga (13-6 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and Ben Rothwell (32-8 MMA, 2-2 UFC). Sources close to the fight on Friday confirmed the matchup to MMAjunkie.com. Tatame first reported the news.

The UFC's return to Brazil is expected to take place Jan. 19 in a host city still to be determined. The main card is likely to air on either FX or FUEL TV.

Rothwell in August was scheduled to meet Travis Browne at UFC on FOX 4, but an injury less than two weeks from the bout took him out of that matchup. In April, Rothwell notched his biggest win in the UFC with a 70-second "Knockout of the Night" upset of Brendan Schaub at UFC 145.

Prior to that win in Atlanta, which came on the heels of a revamped training camp and regime that led to a noticeably slimmer figure, the longtime IFL standout had a win over Gilbert Yvel and losses to Mark Hunt and Cain Velasquez.

Gonzaga was scheduled to fight at UFC 153 which took place this past month in his native Brazil. But when Geronimo dos Santos dropped off the card, Gonzaga soon followed. After starting his UFC career 3-5 and being released, Gonzaga returned to the company at UFC 142 in January and submitted Ednaldo Oliveira in the first round.

"Napao" remains best known for his head-kick knockout of Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic at UFC 70 that earned him a heavyweight title shot against then-champ Randy Couture, who stopped him with a TKO at UFC 74.

The latest card for the UFC's return to Brazil now includes:

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Ben Rothwell*
Nik Lentz vs. Diego Nunes*
Yuri Alcantara vs. George Roop*
Godofredo Castro vs. Milton Vieira*

Bisping vs. Belfort will headline UFC's Jan. 19 show in Brazil

A match between middleweight stars, Michael Bisping (23-4) and Vitor Belfort (21-10), which has been talked about for the past two weeks, was made official Saturday morning by UFC officials.

The show, which doesn't have a location, appears to have a Brazil vs. foreigner theme. The other two bouts listed being middleweights Daniel Sarafian (7-2) vs. C.B. Dollaway (12-4), and a heavyweight battle with Gabriel Gonzaga (13-6) vs. Ben Rothwell (32-8). It is likely as the first of many Brazil-centric shows planned for the market in 2013.

The show is scheduled to be on regular television in the U.S., but the broadcast details haven't been announced.
The main event is a battle between two of the longest tenured current UFC fighters.

Bisping debuted with the group in 2006, while Belfort's first UFC fight was as a 19-year-old in 1997. It's likely to be a key fight in finding a middleweight title contender. Bisping has won five of his last six fights, and the lone loss, to Chael Sonnen in a title eliminator, was a decision that could have gone either way. He's never had a title shot in his career. A win over Belfort would be the biggest of his career, and his first over a former UFC champion.

Belfort, a former light heavyweight champion back in 2004, lost to champion Anderson Silva after a highlight reel front kick to the jaw on Feb. 5, 2011, in Las Vegas. The winner of this fight, and the winner of a Dec. 29 fight in Las Vegas between Chris Weidman vs. Tim Boetsch, would be the most logical contenders for the title. Depending on the timing, particularly if a "dream" fight can be made with Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre, the logical thing would seem to be to match up the two winners of those fights because that would give a contender that nobody could argue would have earned the shot.

Plus, whoever wins would have two more high-profile wins to where they should be marketable by that point in the big fight position, which has been the knock on Weidman.

Belfort is coming off a loss at light heavyweight to Jon Jones in a championship fight on Sept. 22 in Toronto. Belfort injured Jones' arm with an early armbar, but had little offense after Jones escaped from the move that resulted in a few elbow ligament tears. Belfort eventually submitted in the fourth round from a keylock.

The key in this fight may be if Belfort, who has 15 first-round finishes in his 21 wins, can get the jump on Bisping early. Belfort has the better one-punch knockout power, but Bisping's forte is a grueling fast-paced fight, wearing down his opponents.

Bisping has often been in trouble early and come back to win. His strong point, his stamina, has often been Belfort's weakness.

Sarafian was a middleweight finalist on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil. However, he was injured before the championship fight with Cezar "Mutante" Ferreira, who went on to win the show. Sergio Moraes took his spot even though Sarafian had knocked Moraes out in the first round with a flying knee. While unknown in North America, Sarafian is a major name fighter in Brazil already due to the audience of 12 million weekly that watched him earn a spot in the tournament finals.

Dollaway, a former All-American wrestler at Arizona State on the same team as Cain Velasquez and Ryan Bader, was a favorite in Ultimate Fighter 7, losing in the finals to Amir Sadollah. He has struggled in the UFC, winning six of ten.

Gonzaga is a heavyweight who appeared to have the tools, size, great Jiu Jitsu skills and knockout power, but has never been able to put it together. He returned to UFC on Jan. 14, with a quick submission win over Ednaldo Oliveira. In his last fight, Rothwell scored a knockout win over Brendan Schaub at UFC 145 on April 21 in one of the most exciting one-minute fights in recent memory.

UFC's return to Brazil on Jan. 19 will be UFC on FX 7

A month after taking its FX road show to Australia for the second time, the UFC and the cable network will head to South America.

The just-announced UFC return to Brazil in January, made official by the promotion early Saturday, officially will be its seventh card on FX. Sources close to the promotion on Saturday confirmed the broadcast plans to MMAjunkie.com.

"UFC on FX: Belfort vs. Bisping" (or numbered, UFC on FX 7) will take place Jan. 19 with a four-fight main card and eight fights on the prelims.

Middleweights Vitor Belfort (21-10 MMA, 10-6 UFC) and Michael Bisping (23-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) will headline the card, with a co-feature between C.B. Dollaway (12-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) and Daniel Sarafian (7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC). Also on the main card are heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga (13-6 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and Ben Rothwell (32-8 MMA, 2-2 UFC), plus a lightweight bout between Thiago Tavares (17-4-1 MMA, 7-4-1 UFC) and Khabib Nurmagomedov (18-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC).

As has been customary for the UFC's cards in Brazil, a Brazilian fighter is featured in each of the 12 fights on the card.

Although a city and venue have not yet been announced, published reports have indicated the UFC is likely to head to its third different city in the South American country – like Sao Paulo. The promotion had hoped to hold UFC 147 there earlier this year in a soccer stadium, but those plans fell through.

But regardless of the location, the card will be the UFC's fifth in Brazil in about 17 months, a sure sign of the promotion's commitment to continue to bring live events to what most consider the birthplace of MMA. It will, however, be the first non-pay-per-view card for the UFC in Brazil after numbered events for UFC 134, 142, 147 and 153, which took place just this past month in Rio de Janeiro.

The latest card for the UFC's return to Brazil includes:

MAIN CARD
Vitor Belfort vs. Michael Bisping
C.B. Dollaway vs. Daniel Sarafian
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Ben Rothwell
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Thiago Tavares

PRELIMINARY CARD
Godofredo Castro vs. Milton Vieira
Andrew Craig vs. Ronny Markes
Nik Lentz vs. Diego Nunes
Edson Barboza vs. Justin Salas

Francisco Trinaldo vs. C.J. Keith

Caio Magalhaes replaces Thiago Perpetuo, faces Michael Kuiper at UFC on FX 7

A knee injury has forced "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" cast member Thiago Perpetuo (9-1-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) out of a planned UFC on FX 7 matchup with Michael Kuiper (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC).

In his place steps Caio Magalhaes (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who now meets Kuiper in a middleweight matchup.

UFC officials today announced the change for the event, which takes place Jan. 19 at Ginasio Estadual Geraldo Jose de Almeida, also known as Ginasio do Ibirapuera, in Sao Paulo.

The evening's main card airs on FX, but Kuiper vs. Magalhaes is expected to take place on the evening's preliminary card.

Magalhaes fights in the octagon for the first time since a June loss to Buddy Roberts at UFC on FX 3. "Hellboy" looked fatigued in the later rounds of the fight as he struggled to take the fight to the floor and suffered the first professional loss of his career. The bout also marked Magalhaes' first fight outside of his native Brazil.

The 24-year-old Magalhaes is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and earned his first career MMA victory via omo plata.

Meanwhile, Dutch prospect Kuiper returns after a hard-fought TKO win over Jared Hamman at August's UFC 150 event. That result marked Kuiper's first octagon win after he, too, suffered his first career defeat during his octagon debut.

The 23-year-old Kuiper is a judo black belt but has also shown heavy hands, and 11 of his 12 career wins have come via stoppage.

Kuiper-Magalhaes off UFC on FX 7, Kuiper-Roberts joins UFC on FOX 6

Michael Kuiper has lost another opponent, and he'll now fight on a different card.

Kuiper (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) initially was slated to fight Jan. 19 at UFC on FX 6 against Caio Magalhaes (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who himself was a replacement for Thiago Perpetuo (9-1-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC).

However, Magalhaes also is injured, so Kuiper now will fight a week later at UFC on FOX 6, where he meets fellow middleweight Buddy Roberts (12-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC), UFC officials today announced.

UFC on FOX 6 takes place Jan. 26 at United Center in Chicago. The main card, including UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson, airs on FOX. FX and Facebook carry the prelims.

Kuiper vs. Roberts is expected to be part of the prelims.

Dutch prospect Kuiper returns to action after a hard-fought TKO win over Jared Hamman at August's UFC 150 event. That result marked Kuiper's first octagon win after he suffered a decision loss to Rafael Natal in his promotional debut, which spoiled a perfect 11-0 pro record. The 23-year-old Kuiper is a judo black belt but has also shown heavy hands, and 11 of his 12 career wins have come via stoppage.

He now meets the Greg Jackson-trained Roberts, who made his UFC debut earlier this year and earned a submission victory over Magalhaes. That moved his overall win streak to six fights, though the former light heavyweight then suffered a TKO loss to former middleweight title challenger Yushin Okami in a late-notice bout at UFC 150.

Dana White: With win in next fight, Michael Bisping earns title shot against Anderson Silva

Michael Bisping pleas have finally been heard.
After years of asking for a title match, it appears that the Brit has only one more roadblock in front of him. He needs to get past Vitor Belfort at January 19's UFC on FX 7 event. If he does that, according to UFC president Dana White, he'll be the next man to draw middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

"If Bisping wins, he’ll get the shot," White said in the aftermath of UFC 155.

During the Saturday night event, a pair of possible contenders in Alan Belcher and Tim Boetsch were both defeated.

That leaves only Chris Weidman as a higher-ranked 185-pounder than Bisping, but Weidman is still recovering from a shoulder injury, leaving Bisping with a golden opportunity.

It won't be his first high-pressure match. Back at UFC 100, Bisping likely could have earned a title bout with a win over Dan Henderson, but instead, he was knocked out for the only time in his career.

Bisping (23-4) has been of the UFC's most durable pieces since he debuted in the promotion following a stint on the third season of The Ultimate Fighter. He's fought 17 times for the organization, going 13-4. That's the most wins anyone's ever piled up in the organization without earning a title bout.

Bisping's on one of his best career runs, having won five of his last six with his lone loss a disputed split-decision to Chael Sonnen in January.

He's currently a slight underdog to Belfort (21-7) in a fight that he must win on Belfort's home turf in Brazil.

Edson Barboza draws Lucas Martins for UFC on FX 7 after Justin Salas injured

After suffering his first career loss, Edson Barboza hopes to rebound at the upcoming UFC on FX 7 event, but his scheduled fight has seen a change following an injury to opponent Justin Salas.

Instead of facing the American, Barboza will take on fellow Brazilian Lucas Martins at January 19's UFC on FX 7 card, the UFC confirmed on Wednesday.

Barboza will be fighting for the first time since losing to Jamie Varner in a May 2012 upset, which came via first-round TKO. Prior to that, he'd been a perfect 10-0.

After having his perfect run shattered, Barboza will look to exact some revenge by halting Martins' unbeaten run.

Martins, who is 24 years old and trains with Chute Boxe, is 11-0 after a prolific 2012, during which he fought and won nine times. He won twice alone in December.

The bout with Barboza, though, will mark his major MMA debut.

UFC on FX 7 emanates from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and features a main event of Vitor Belfort vs. Michael Bisping.

Roger Hollett out, Wagner Prado meets Ildemar Alcantara at UFC on FX 7

A torn bicep has forced Canadian Roger Hollett out of a planned appearance at next week's UFC on FX 7 event, and Wagner Prado (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) now reportedly meets UFC newcomer Ildemar Alcantara (17-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in a light heavyweight bout.

Brazilian outlet SporTV.com first reported the change, and MMAjunkie subsequently confirmed Hollet's withdrawal with his manager, Stanley Durst. UFC officials have yet to announce the switch.

UFC on FX 7 takes place Jan. 19 at Ginasio Estadual Geraldo Jose de Almeida, also known as Ginasio do Ibirapuera, in San Paulo, Brazil. It will be the UFC's first trip to Sao Paulo since UFC 17.5 in October 1998. The main card airs on FX in the U.S. and features a middleweight fight between Vitor Belfort (21-10 MMA, 10-6 UFC) and Michael Bisping (23-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC).

Alcantara is the reigning Jungle Fight middleweight champion and younger brother of three-time UFC veteran Yuri Alcantara, who also fights at UFC on FX 7. Ildemar comes to the UFC on the strength of a seven-fight win streak and is 11-1 in his past 12 fights, with the lone loss coming to current UFC welterweight Marcelo Guimares. Fifteen of Alcantara's 17 career wins have come by way of stoppage, including 10 by knockout.

Prado fights for the third time in the octagon, though he has just one official result. His octagon debut was a UFC on FOX 4 matchup with Phil Davis, who accidentally poked Prado in the eye, which resulted in the bout being ruled a no contest. The pair fought again at October's UFC 153 event, where Davis earned a second-round submission win.

Prior to his UFC run, Prado racked up an undefeated mark on the Brazilian regional scene, scoring seven of his eight wins by knockout.

Hollett is expected to be cleared to fight again in April.

With the change, the latest UFC on FX 7 card includes:

MAIN CARD (FX)
Vitor Belfort vs. Michael Bisping

Alcantara brothers' fights with Nobre, Prado official, 11-bout UFC on FX 7 set

A pair of bouts involving Brazil's Alcantara brothers is now official for next week's UFC on FX 7 event, and the 11-bout lineup for the show is now complete.

UFC executives on Wednesday announced previously reported fights of bantamweights Yuri Alcantara (27-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) vs. Pedro Nobre (14-1-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and light heavyweights Ildemar Alcantara (17-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Wagner Prado (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) are now official for the card, which takes place Jan. 19 at Ginasio Estadual Geraldo Jose de Almeida, also known as Ginasio do Ibirapuera, in San Paulo, Brazil.

The evening's four-fight main card airs on FX following six bouts on FUEL TV and one contest that streams on Facebook.

Ildemar Alcantara is the reigning Jungle Fight middleweight champion and younger brother of three-time UFC veteran Yuri Alcantara, who also fights at UFC on FX 7.

Yuri Alcantara looks to rebound from a unanimous-decision loss to Hacran Dias at UFC 147 in June. The setback snapped a 13-fight win streak, which included UFC wins over Felipe Arantes and Michihiro Omigawa.

Nobre made his unofficial UFC debut earlier this year as a featherweight contestant on "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil." However, Nobre suffered a first-round knockout loss to Marcos Vinicius "Vina" Borges Pancini in the elimination round and was sent home without qualifying for the "TUF: Brazil" house.

Nobre remained busy in 2012 and racked up a 4-1-1 record while fighting on the Brazilian regional scene. That run includes two separate occasions of fighting twice in one night under the Bitetti Combat banner.

The Alcantara brothers become the 10th set of siblings to compete in the UFC's octagon, joining Junior and Raphael Assuncao, Antonio Rogerio and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Dan and Jim Miller, Mark and Matt Hughes, Matt and Nick Serra, Dan and Joe Lauzon, Nate and Nick Diaz, Frank and Ken Shamrock and half brothers Matt Andersen and Jeremy Horn.

The complete UFC on FX 7 lineup includes:
