The UFC's middleweight division has a new addition.

Eddie Mendez, a California-based fighter and onetime Strikeforce competitor, has signed with the world's biggest MMA promotion.

Mendez and his management team at Iridium Sports today announced the signing via Twitter.

Terms of the deal, as well as a debut date and opponent, weren't disclosed.

"Well it's official everyone," Mendez tweeted. "I signed with the UFC last night! Thank you to everyone for all of the support and love."

Mendez turned pro in 2008 and has racked up a 7-0-1 record (with one no-contest). While most of his fights have come with regional promotions such as Respect in the Cage and Total Fighting Alliance, he made an appearance with Strikeforce in late 2011. On the preliminary card of "Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal," Mendez edged former WEC fighter Fernando Gonzalez (17-9 at the time) via split decision with a late rally.

Most recently, he picked up a unanimous-decision victory over M-1 vet Fabio Nascimento (11-5).
