Ik wist niet dat Adam Watt vastzit. Jammer, het was een goede vechter. Mooie partijen tegen oa Hoost, Gordeau, Lomulder, Kaman.

Bashed prisoner Adam Watt sues Silverwater jail for $750,000

A FORMER kickboxing champion charged with being part of an international drug syndicate is suing the state government for more than $750,000 after he was bashed in prison.

Adam Watt, from the northern beaches, claims prison staff at Silverwater ignored a tip-off from the Australian Federal Police that another inmate was planning to kill him.

He further claims officers failed to isolate him and allowed an inmate to return a weapon to his alleged attacker after an initial unsuccessful attempt to kill him.

The former world champion was left clinically dead after he was king-hit by a fellow inmate swinging a pillow case allegedly stuffed with a 5kg sandwich press in October 2009.

Watt has launched a civil action against the government claiming prison staff failed to Watt's attacker after he allegedly tried to attack Watt prior to the alleged sandwich press incident, according to Watt's statement of claim filed in the NSW Supreme Court.

Watt claims prison staff didn't investigate the first alleged attempted hit and did not confiscate a weapon which was "placed underneath a table tennis table", the statement said.

Prison officers then allegedly allowed the weapon to be removed by another inmate who passed it back to the alleged attacker, the statement said.

Watt was later allegedly attacked by who descended a set of stairs swinging a pillow case, which connected with Watt's head, knocking him unconscious.

Watt claims he should have been placed in protective custody and that the prison failed to follow its own protocols, the statement said. He is suing the government for "damages" and legal costs in the matter which returns to court on Thursday.

At the time of the attack Watt was on remand for allegedly trying to import pseudoephedrine in cans of coconut milk to make ice with a street value of $52.5 million.

He will face the NSW Supreme Court on September 17 charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of a border controlled substance.

He is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

Previously, Watt won several world kickboxing titles, and reached as high as 19th in the highly respected World Boxing Council's Cruiserweight ratings.
