"I've started the fight with Schilt well, but i've received that high kick and i fell. I was lucid the whole time, i stood on the ground a bit, because, after you fall, it's not good to get up fast. I took a little time, but i didn't thought the referee will stop the fight. I've asked him: Why do you stop the fight? I can fight. But that's what his will was and i couldn't do anything to change it.
It's like in footbal/soccer, you can't change the referee's decision. Bad luck blocked the most important step of my career, an istoric step for the romanian kickboxing. The same happened in 2011, with Hesdy Gerges. He did an illegal hit, but the referee said the blow was in my stomach so i lost", Ghita explained.
The romanian says that even the dutch Schilt was surprised by the referee's decision, who stopped the fight.
"Even Semmy Schilt was surprised at the decision. He saw that it wasn't a KO from which i couldn't come back. He as well as his trainer told me this, Ghita added.
Our fighter regrets the loss from Japan specially because he made a lot of sacrifices to get the necessary training for such a tourney.
"I was very determined to reach the final. I had great trust in me, in my every days work. I've prepared 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon, for every single day. Sometimes, i've even trained on Sundays. Even God had to take a rest in the 7th day. I had no rest, even on Sundays. I've sacrificed a good chunk of my life for the dream of becoming #1 in kickboxing. But the referee had an important role this time. But i do have time to demonstrate that Daniel Ghita is numer 1!"
Reporter: Daniel, everyone observed even from the official weigh in that you're in excellent form. How much time did it take you to train for this tourney?
Daniel Ghita: I've wished strongly to be in my best shape for this tourney, specially because i had the best fighters in the world as opponents, fighters as Schilt, Aerts, Bonjasky. In these conditions, the posture of the main contender for Semmy Schilt honored me. This tourney organized by Glory was definitely the best in a long time. 16 top fighters that gave it their all in the ring. For 4 months i've trained intensively for this tourney in Holland. I've had some minor injuries to my legs in this time, but what's important is that i've recovered in time for the tourney.
Rep: Until the final, Jhonata Diniz gave you the most problems. How was the fight for you?
D.G.: I've had some problems before the fight with Diniz. I've eaten something bad and i've even thrown up a few minutes before getting up in the ring. It was an important moment, which i'm happy i managed to pass it well. I then had 40 minutes of break time, in which i've gotten better thus 2 victories by KO followed.
Rep: In quarter finals you've KO'ed an experienced fighter, Mourad Bouzidi, which you know very well.
D.G.: Yes, i can say we are friends and we even trained together for a while. But in the last months we've both took our own roads in preparing for this final.
Rep:In semifinals you've KO'ed Jamal Ben Saddik in just a few seconds, the man that won against Zimmerman and Bonjasky.
D.G.: Yes, i am very happy for delivering the fastest KO of the tourney. I knew i had to stay away from Saddik's hits, a fighter who's height is over 2 meters and weighs in over 130 kg's. In this conditions, any of his hits pack a lot of power behind them. In the start of the match i've hit him with a counter kick, caught him very well and so i've managed to finish the fight in record time.
Rep: The general opinion was that the referee was quick to declare Semmy Schilt as the winner, even though you could continue. How did it look for you?
D.G.: I could continue the fight and i'm confident i could have won against Schilt. I know, it's not easy, Semmy is huge, very hard to put down, but i was prepared to do it. The fight should have continued, specially because there was very little time until the end of the round and i could've made a complete recovery. I was in the final, the people expected to see a fight decided either at points or with one of the fighters unable to get up from the canvas. I've prepared so many months, reached the final, and now i have this regret. Semmy's kick hit my guard, i was up and i've even had my arms towards the referee so i can continue. Even so, that weird decision followed which i've even contested. Maybe it was too much for a romanian to win against the big names. I had planned to get Semmy tired in the first round and go for it afterwards. I regret i didn't had this chance.
Rep: What's next for you in 2013?
D.G.: Now i am in Romania, for a short vacation. First and foremost i want to thank those that encouraged me on facebook and on my official site. Their support made me feel like a champion. I always fight with them in my mind and to best represent my country. I want to be an ambassador for the romanian sport and to proudly wear the romanian flag all over the world. I will be back to training in Holland, and from 2013 i expect only victories in the Glory circuit, in which there are prepared a few mega shows. After all, this is where the best fighters in the world are.
I'm sorry i didn't win the final and i'm sorry because i have more projects to donate for homes for children, and those 400.000 would've gave me the chance to give them more in these holyday times. Even so, i will continue to offer them my full support!
