During a media conference at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel Zagreb, the fighting spectacle "Fight Channel presents: K-1 WGP Finals" was presented, set to take place on March 15 in Arena Zagreb. On the same occasion, the fight card for Croatia's sporting spectacle of the decade was revealed as well.
Mirko Filipović, Hesdy Gerges, Zabit Samedov and main producer Orsat Zovko presented the K-1 WGP Final to the Croatian public. It is planned for the event to feature a total of 12 fights, including one reserve fight plus super fights.
"It won't be an easy job for sure, but I have no doubt we'll create an event that will make both us and K-1 proud. At this point, it is certain that the event will be broadcast live in 120-130 countries across the world, and we believe that Arena Zagreb will be sold out even long before the event itself," Orsat Zovko said, introducing the event to the public.
"Fighting in front of the home crowd is an extra pressure, but an incentive as well. I'm flattered to be seen as a favorite, although I must point out that the tournament features the very best of fighters. All of them are hungry for the glory and the prize, and there's no doubt that March 15 will be a night to remember. I'm ready to give my all," Cro Cop said.
Fighters Zabit Samedov and Hesdy Gerges stated they were happy to come to Croatia and showed optimism before the K-1 WGP Final. "I'll be ready for any opponent, it doesn't matter who I fight. I'll beat everyone!" Gerges was confident.
With all the participants evenly matched, none of the present fighters was willing to state their favorites. Naturally, each of them sees himself as the winner of the final fight and of the K-1 champion's belt, not to forget the main prize of one million USD.
"This is definitely the biggest kickboxing tournament in the world, it's happening in my town and this is something unique. The preparations have been going on for a long time, Stipe Drviš will help me with the boxing part, holding the focus mitts, and his counters to my strike combinations are valuable beyond measure to me."


" No one is a clear favorite here, including me. The winner will be the luckiest one, since the condition of fighters after each match will play a major role. It could easily happen that someone is banned from further fighting by doctors, it wouldn't happen for the first time at tournaments. I'll give it my best shot in any case," Cro Cop said.

“I am satisfied with the draw. Ben is much bigger than me, but I am faster and I am going to exploit that. It’s an honor to be a part of tournament with Cro Cop”, Samedov said.
At the end of the conference, Orsat Zovko announced that Michael Buffer, the world's most famous ring announcer, will participate in the event this year as well.

2. Mirko CroCop vs. Jarrell Miller
3. Ben Edwards vs. Zabit Samedov
4. Ismael Londt vs. Hesdy Gerges

Semi Finals:
1. Morosanu/Zhuravlev vs. CroCop/Miller
2. Edwards/Samedov vs. Londt/Gerges

Tickets will be available for purchase from February 1, and the lowest price is set at 100 HRK (about 18 USD or 13 EUR).

Mirko doorstaat de tand des tijd slecht, ik hoop voor hem dat hij wint ( ontzettend goede vechter in zijn prime ) maar ik hoop ook dat hij snel stop en voor wat betreft K-1

Het is duidelijk dat Glory momenteel de meest interessante partijen kan laten zien, maar dit is toch ook niet verkeerd. Hoop dat K-1 zich weer kan ontwikkelen. Een beetje concurrentie is namelijk niet verkeerd en houdt ook Glory scherp.

De merknaam K1 blijft vele malen groter en internationaler dan glory, terecht ook.

Het is jammer van het mismanagement, want dit was gewoon het leading toernooi by far!

Maar toch is het geen onzintoernooi met obscure vechters, gewoon goede namen, hopelijk kunnen ze weer doorpakken en ben benieuwd wat londt kan doen.

K-1 heeft zelf geen productieteam, marketing-team of ander personeel meer in dienst niks nada. Het enige wat nu nog gebeurt is dat Oost-Europese promoters K-1's naam mogen gebruiken. Het sterke gerucht gaat dat K-1 een groot startgeld-bedrag had beloofd aan Crocop met de bedoeling om een grote aandacht in Amerika te genereren de finale in New York in december ging zoals bekend niet door.Om deze lachwekkende reden:

Deze K-1 event in Zagreb is een soort van tegemoetkoming om het beloofde startgeld van Crocop te kunnen betalen (alle inkomsten van dit evenement zijn voor Fight Channel)

K-1 heeft in Amerika een grote puinhoop achtergelaten waarbij een batterij aan Amerikanen nog een flink geldbedrag krijgen (onder wie vechters, de eigenaar van de LA Memorial Sports Arena en voormalige K-1 USA personeelsleden die het laatste half jaar geen salaris hebben ontvangen en die onlangs ook allemaal zijn ontslagen)

Over Glory gesproken waarom zou Glory ook een Glory-event in Zagreb met Fight Channel hebben gepland?

Vind het toch wel een goede kaart van hoog niveau, zeker nu die japanner eruit is en vervangen is door Pavel Zuravliov. Dat is echt een topvechter k-1 finale niveau. Zelfde van Gerges en Crocop is natuurlijk een legend die al meerdere malen in de finale stond. Edwards is moordende puncher en kan voor een verrassing zorgen op een goede dag. Samedov heeft te skills en ervaring om zijn mannetje te staan. Morosanu is altijd leuk en Londt is één van de nieuwe opkomen de talenten!

Alleen wel vreemd dat een aantal vechters niet op de hoogte waren dat K-1 deze persconferentie zou gaan beleggen en men ook nog niet op de hoogte was gebracht waar en wanneer de finales zouden worden gehouden (zelfs 2 dagen na de persco...)Vreemde communicatie. Ik verwacht dat er 2 of 3 vechters van deze lijst zullen wegvallen.

Toch niet zo gek, K-1 en de organisator van Final fight hebben een recentelijk een deal gemaakt om er één event, de finale van te maken. Details moeten dan logischerwijze nog uitgewerkt.
