Vechten tegen Kanker

Forumbroeder Jos Erkens (Cobra) vroeg mij enige tijd geleden of ik ook aanwezig wilde zijn bij ‘Vechten tegen Kanker’, een vechtsportevenement ter inzameling van geld voor Kika Kinderenkankervrij en KWF Kankerbestrijding. Dat wilde ik natuurlijk wel. Ik kan dit soort initiatieven dan ook enkel toejuichen.

Stille kracht achter dit evenement is Wim Grond. Wim Grond geeft zelf laagdrempelige kickboks- en bokslessen in deze sporthal voor een leuke groep enthousiastelingen. Daarnaast heeft Wim helaas zelf ervaring binnen zijn familie met de verstrekkende gevolgen van Kanker. Zodoende besloot Wim om een fundraiser te organiseren met vechtsport als centraal thema.

Het evenement zou om 11.00u starten en tot omstreeks 19.00u duren. Er stonden diverse seminars van bekende vechters op de planning waaronder die van Marco Piqué en Andy Souwer. Daarnaast waren er diverse oosterse vechtkunst demonstraties te zien deze dag. Buiten deze sportactiviteiten stond er nog een veiling van gesigneerde vechtsportartikelen op de planning en er waren diverse kraampjes waar spullen gekocht konden worden. Het geld hiervan was bestemd voor de goede doelen. Onze eigen forumbroeder Boris El Bastardo was uiteraard ook weer aanwezig. Ook hij doneerde een gedeelte van de inkomsten aan de goede doelen. Tevens aanwezig was de stand van Ambulante Thuiszorg.

Ook aan de allerjongsten werd gedacht. De kinderen konden zich naar hartenlust uitleven op het grote springkussen of lekker creatief met de stiften en potloden in de weer.

Zelf was ik omstreeks een uur of half één in de middag aanwezig. Op dat moment was de MMA Seminar onder leiding van Danny Hoyer (Hoyer’s Gym) net afgelopen, en was Marco Piqué alweer begonnen aan zijn thaiboks clinic. Een leuke enthousiaste groep vechters was druk in de weer met de diversiteit aan technieken die Marco Piqué instrueerde aan de groep. De sfeer zat er goed in en het was goed om te zien dat het publiek ook de moeite genomen had om te komen kijken.

Ondertussen liep ik nog eens rondje door de zaal om diverse handjes van bekenden te schudden. Zo waren o.a. aanwezig Hans ‘WFCA’ Loeffen, Ringspeaker Tom Wesselink en de dames van A.M.P.S. Booking Agency aanwezig. Ondertussen was forumbroeder Jos Erkens druk in de weer met het maken van de mooiste foto’s. Op de achtergrond zag ik dat de cameraman en een interviewster van de regionale TV zender L1 bezig waren met diverse interviews.

Na de sessie van Marco Piqué was het tijd voor de overige activiteiten. Zo konden de mensen meedoen aan een seminar rondom de efficiënte trainingswijze rondom kettlebells. Dit onder professionele toezicht van Gerrit Gerringa (Next Level). Mooi om te zien dat ook Marco Piqué enthousiast meedeed met de groep.

Gedurende de dag konden de liefhebbers ook proeven aan de mooie technieken van Wing Chun. Deze groep stond onder leiding van de heren achter Wing Chun CMASD (Chinese Martial Arts Self Defence).

Ondertussen werd de radio aangezet voor mooie sfeermuziek waarop de vechtkunstenaars van Jin Jung Kwan Hapkido uit Geleen hun technieken en kunsten vertoonden. Het publiek genoot met grote teugen hiervan.

Als laatste op deze dag was het tijd voor de seminar van Andy Souwer. Hij ging in de weer met een enthousiaste groep vechters om hun kickboks technieken verder aan te scherpen. Het was duidelijk dat iedereen er zin in had.

Afsluitend vond nog een veiling voor het goede doel plaats. Diverse vechsportartikelen waren gesigneerd door o.a. Peter Aerts, Albert Kraus, Chris Ngimbi en Warren stevelmans. Ik weet niet exact hoeveel de veiling in totaal opgebracht heeft. Maar ik meende te horen dat het Tshirt en handschoenen van Aerts en Kraus al een Euro of 400 opgebracht hadden. Heel goed dit!
Dan rest me nu enkel nog jullie veel plezier te wensen met het bekijken van de foto’s. Jos, bedankt weer.

Uiteraard zeer grote dank voor de inzet en het harde werk van Wim Grond. Zonder hem zou dit initiatief er niet geweest zijn. En ik kan jullie alvast verklappen dat Wim veel zin heeft om dit ieder jaar te organiseren. Laten we met zijn allen hopen dat het een groot succes wordt. Niet alleen van de enorm goede doelen die centraal staan. Maar ook om onze geliefde vechtsport even in een positief daglicht te zetten. Dus Wim, nogmaals dank voor je inzet en gastvrijheid.

Daarnaast bijzonder dank aan alle sportscholen en trainers die aanwezig waren. Maar uiteraard ook dank aan de deelnemers, het publiek, de aanwezig media en de vrijwilligers die zich ingezet hebben voor deze prachtige dag.
