An Interview with Germanys first female UFC Fighter Sheila Gaff. Enjoy it!
Booster: How about the preparation for your fight at UFC 163? There you’re going to compete witht the strong Brazilian Amanda Nunes.
Sheila Gaff: Hello, my preparation for the fight in Rio running at high gear, I daily work with my team to develop further to get the best result on 3rd August.
Booster: Unfortunately you lost your debut fight in the UFC against the American wrestler Sara McMann already in the first round. In retrospect, what do you think was your mistake?

Sheila Gaff: I wanted to show the audience an aggressive fight, this is why my emotions ran wild. Actually I wanted to start the fight slowlier, but sometimes such things happen in excitement. Today I would do it differently, but I can’t turn back the hands of time. I would be very happy about a refight, but at the moment all my focus is on the next fight in Brazil.
Booster: In passt times you were very strong in standup fight, but now you’ve also trained hard for grappling. In your DGL grappling fight against Katrin Welter people could see that you improved your grappling skills a lot. What’s your current training like? Is there a priority?
Sheila Gaff: I work on all my fight skills which also include grappling. There is no real priority, because as a complete fighter you need to give first-class performances at any time. It’s also important to train the whole technique for the MMA, as it’s not appropriate to train Jiu Jitsu for Jiu Jitsu if you want to enter the cage.
Booster: Which was your emotion when you were marching in the cage in your UFC debut? After all you are the first German in the UFC after Siver, Sobotta and Kraus.
Sheila Gaff: It was overwhelming as in the UFC everything is much bigger as you are used to. Of course I was particularly nervous in the days before the fight, but the agitation decreased a lot already while I entered the cage and I was concentrated as usual. Definitely it was an feeling I don’t want to miss anymore.

Booster: In the meantime you train at the German MMA specialist, how did your cooperation wit MMA Spirit happen? Do you train at Spirit’s exclusively from now on?
Sheila Gaff: I have already trained at MMA Spirit before my last fight, but in other teams, too. After my last fight I realized that in future times I have to train differently and above all in a team with a fixed trainer coprs. The MMA Spirit offers everything I need to improve my skills. This is difficult when you learn different techniques in different places parallely and don’t really belong to one team. Thus I’m happy to have taken this decision.
Booster: Let’s return to the UFC topic: on 3rd August you will have the opportunity to win for the first time in your second fight. Have you already decided on a certain strategy? What do you know about your opponent yet?
Sheila Gaff: The fightplan, well the fightplans for my fight against Amanda were made by my trainers and I’m in the process of totally getting involved in it. Nevertheless it’s important to stay flexible during the fight, because you can’t controll everything. Howerver I feel very good and the camp proceeded perfectly. My opponent is a Thai-Boxer, but she has also got a brown belt in Jiu Jitus and Judo. I would say that she’s an allrounder and that it will be a spectacular fight.
Booster: If you still have something on your mind, feel free to toss it out!
Sheila Gaff: I want to thank all my fans for their support – especialy after the bad loss – that made me strong to go on. Additionaly I want to say thank you to my sponsors Booster, Gevas, Olimp, Boxhaus and of course to my new team MMA Spirit for their super support. Also thanks for your interest!
