verdient wel een aparte topic vind ik.
terecht Ban of niet volgens jullie?

At last night's UFC Ultimate Fight Night 29 Rousimar Palhares (http://www.MixedMartialArts.com/f/9885BF5E468B7509/Rousimar-Palhares/) defeated Mike Pierce with a heel hook submission in the first round. Palhares held the submission after Pierce tapped and even as the ref tried to stop break up the fighters. There is no word yet on any injuries received by Pierce in the bout. Palhares had previously had the same issue in other bouts, but this is the last time it will happen in the UFC, as Dana White has banned him from the organization:
@danawhite tells me on @ESPN (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=news.search&phrase=ESPN)Olbermann that Rousimar Palhares (http://www.MixedMartialArts.com/f/9885BF5E468B7509/Rousimar-Palhares/) is banned. won't ever fight for UFC again...

The UFC won't wait for word from Brazil's MMA commission before making a decision on Rousimar Palhares (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/rousimar-palhares).

UFC President Dana White on Thursday told ESPN's Jeremy Schaap that the welterweight has been released from the promotion and won't fight for the company again following his submission win over Mike Pierce (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/mike-pierce) on Wednesday night.

"If you ever watch a UFC event, the camaraderie is amazing in this sport," White told Schaap. "We had an incident with a guy named Paul Daley (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/paul-daley), from England, who hit somebody after the fight was over. We cut him, and he'll never fight in the UFC ever again. And this is the second incident we've had with Palhares where he had the lock and he didn't let it go. But I'm going to cut him, too. He's done."

At UFC Fight Night 29, which took place at Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Palhares (15-5 MMA, 8-4 UFC) caught Mike Pierce (17-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) by the leg right away in the first round. Pierce escaped initially, but Palhares stayed after his leg – his specialty.

And on his second try, he wrapped up an ankle lock. As Pierce started to tap, referee Keith Peterson dived in to get the Brazilian to release the hold. But even as Pierce continued tapping – eventually on Peterson's back – Palhares appeared to hold the leg longer still.

(Watch the Palhares vs. Pierce finish (http://www.mmajunkie.com/news/2013/10/watch-rousimar-palhares-again-hold-onto-a-submission-for-too-long).)

After the card was over, UFC officials said they were not going to award Palhares with what would have been a $50,000 "Submission of the Night" bonus based on the Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) looking into whether or not Palahares was "unsportsmanlike" in his finish.

It was not the first time Palhares has been in the situation. Three years ago, the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board suspended Palhares for 90 days when it was determined he held a heel hook too long against Tomasz Drwal (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/tomasz-drwal).

But it appears that it may be the last time he does it in the UFC. Palhares had dropped to welterweight for the first time after a two-fight skid at middleweight, and after testing positive for elevated testosterone levels in a loss to Hector Lombard (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/hector-lombard) this past December.

His UFC debut came at UFC 84 in May 2008, which he won "Submission of the Night" with an armbar. All told, Palhares has eight leg submissions in his career.

But now he will be going after his next one for another promotion.

The Palhares ban is justified, he has a long history of this, at this point he is out of chances, he doesn’t respect the ref’s command to stop

With a choke
http://youtu.be/wk3K-_rv6Fs?t=2m3s

With a heel hook, the worst one hands down and clearly shows it is intentional
http://youtu.be/kYQaV7QrqI0?t=1m29s

His first in the UFC
http://img.mixedmartialarts.com/method=get&s=rousimar-palhares.gif

ADCCs vs Lovato, not held on too long but he went hard and hurt Lovato
http://youtu.be/8JM7Wywnh1w?t=6m13s (http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2F8JM7Wywnh1w%3Ft%3D 6m13s&h=0AQHdQW8kAQHOZGAh9YWfawkbGljjEBwIrnErMZhQJdi4dQ&s=1)

ADCCs vs Avellan, twisting after ref contact
http://youtu.be/FohRibjEbgI?t=2m3s

and then last night, where again he twisted after ref contact, ban is fine in my eyes

Compleet verdiend.

Whatever issues Rousimar Palhares has, his manager Alex Davis is universally respected as a deeply principled figure in the sport. In an interview with MMAJunkie, Davis acknowledged the heel hook was held too long Wednesday night in Brazil vs. Mike Pierce, but avered that there was no ill will.
"We have talked about it at length," Davis today told MMAJunkie.com. "The one thing I can certify is that Rousimar does not hold on to a sub out of malice. It's unconscious, a mix of adrenaline and years of being conditioned to not let go."
"I can attest to the fact that Rousimar is a very simple, humble and well-meaning person. This is not malice but instinct, nature of the beast.
"That said, we need to keep on working on it. Rousimar used to hurt people in training, but he has become very controlled now. Now we need to work on the fights, work on keeping him conscious rather than just automatic."
"It might be hard for people to understand that don't know Rousimar personally, but I'm telling you, he holds on out of instinct. He only realizes it afterward."
"These guys are in the zone. To me, it's pure instinct.'
"He's perplexed. He doesn't really grasp it. He doesn't really understand that he's doing something overly wrong. He doesn't get it."
"It's very sad for me. I understand the UFC's perspective. They have to do what's in their best interest. I get Dana White's perspective. I think it was a bit radical, but he has done this before."
"First of all, we're going to figure out what the problem is. This kid is not a mean kid. Everyone who is with him loves him to pieces.
"We're going to try to figure out why this happens. Why does this kid do this s---? Why doesn't he just stop?"

Good. Yanking of knees and anckles is career ending. If you know you have the lock going in and I am sure this guy knows it then there is no point in yanking it true for 5 a 6 second

Rousimar Palhares’ former coach Murilo Bustamante, head of the Brazilian Top Team, says he is not surprised about Palhares’ latest controversial incident in the UFC Octagon, nor that he has now been cut by the organization and banned for life.

Speaking to Fighters Only, the esteemed trainer and former UFC champion said that Palhares’ tendency to hurt his training partners was a large factor in their parting ways last year. Palhares is now with Team Nogueira in Rio de Janeiro.

“I wouldn’t normally say anything because usually what happens inside Brazilian Top Team stays inside Brazilian Top Team. But Rousimar has been talking a lot of bulls--t about my team so I feel I am free to say what I think as well,” Bustamante tells us.

“I can say this - nobody ever defended him as much as I did every time he made a mistake like this. In the beginning I thought it was because he was naive or had too much nervous energy during the fights.

“But then he caused a lot of incidents inside my academy during his camps and I changed my mind.

“I got tired of seeing how he hurts people so often when he is sparring, especially when he has a fight coming up. We used to argue every time it happened, so we argued a lot.

“That was a reason - together with his nonsense excuses every time he lost a fight - that our relationship started to get bitter.

“I actually hired a psychologist to help me with him but, as we have seen, it didn't work.”

Rousimar Palhares infamously held a heel hook vs. Mike Pierce at UFN 29 on Wed, and was released by the UFC, for life. An obvious place for him go would be Bellator, but CEO Bjorn Rebney says he is not interested.
"Risks already exist for the courageous, world class fighters who enter the Bellator cage; without adding further unnecessary risks into the mix," Rebney told TMZ. "Fighter safety is paramount to me and my team."

Rousimar Palhares released a video explaining the circumstances around the heel hook on Mile Pierce at UFN 29 that has apparently ended his career in the UFC.

"My goal has always been this - for to win as clean as possible in the fight, the fight for me is my life," said Palhares. "This kind of news makes us be a little thoughtful about how we must fight, because I've been through so many things. I came here in Rio de Jabeiro, fought, fought, and worked hard to get where I am, and how I was created, my mother and father, how they raised me, the kind of conduct which I was raised.

"About the fight, since he had already defended the leg lock, in a position that I went, which is the heel hook, he defended well, his work was well done, so I had to be more precise in the next attack, and get into the position in a different way. When I entered the position he held in the cage trying not to fall, and then the referee went there to take off his hand.

"When the referee took his hand off, it was precisely the time that I was turning to pick up the foot and heel. When I finished spinning, the referee was able to take (Pierce's) hand off the fence and he fell. When he sat down, the referee had to go to the other side, and that transition took two seconds. It was the two seconds that caused the misunderstanding. The referee stepped in front and he kept tapping out on the back of the referee, not on me."

"I only saw that on the tape, I did not see it at fight time. The only thing I saw was the referee coming down on me, understood?

"Even Mike Pierce if he is listening to this message, this conversation that I'm having here, I think he could tell if he really felt that I was being mean, cruel. I'm pretty sure he knows I did not do anything to hurt him. I just wanted to ensure my victory. Everyone who knows me knows that I would never do such a thing to harm any athlete, because I'm a guy who trains a lit, who battles of this. My life is just train, eat, and sleep. My life is dedicated to this purpose, to be considered one of the best here in Brazil, and possibly the world. This is what I've been trying to do, without going over anyone, without harming anyone, even by my own conduct, because who knows me knows that, I would never do any kind of unsportsmanlike attitude, to harm my opponent, my fellow worker.

"I did not feel the guy tapping out. If I had felt (the tap out) I would have released it. I certainly would not hurt him, because you only need to give the guy three taps out, and it does not require more than that.

"In the fight, I only wanted to win the fight, I do not want to kill my opponent, I just want to win. I will not stop running after my dream. I worked hard to get here and I will continue working, you know? I have faith in God that it will all become clear, and (what) I have inside my heart is clean. My mind is clear, I did not do anything to go against the sport.

"If my family became aware of such a thing, my mother will get so sad, because she did not raise me that way. She knows how she raised me and see that even her will get so sad.

"So, I'm really upset with this, with this situation.

"Dana White, if you think my attitude was not positive inside the Octagon, I ask you with an open-hearted man, that you forgive me, I'm sorry, okay? Because this was not my intention.

"But I respect the decision of the UFC and Dana White. So what you decide, for me, is decide it

Rousimar Palhares' manager Alex Davis is one of the most principled figures in mixed martial arts. In his latest article at MMAJunkie, Davis says that the reaction over 'Toquinho' holding the heel hook too long has gone too far.

I'm not defending Rousimar's actions. He did wrong in holding Mike Pierce's ankle that long. But this situation is being way over blown. Rousimar has already been punished. He was denied an obvious "Submission of the Night" bonus, and he was given a four-month suspension by the CABMMA. But this guy is being crucified in the court of public opinion and turned into something he is not: a mean, monstrous person who is out to hurt people. This is simply not the truth.

Dana White got very upset over the incident and cut Rousimar. I get it. I get his perspective. But we were not sent a release letter, nor did we get a phone call. We found out on Twitter. That's a first for me! And then all these people out there crying and whining!

Come on! This has turned into one of the biggest bashing sessions in MMA history. People are gaining media at this guy's expense; that's whats happening.

Rousimar does not do this on purpose. He does it unconsciously. But he will have learned his lesson, and he will fight with his head on, and he will beat everyone put in front of him – maybe in a nicer way! And when this happens, I will remind the world of all of this: There are many truths in this situation. Rousimar has been turned from a transgressor to a victim of public opinion and people's ignorance.

In an exclusive sneak peak of an upcoming feature interview with top World Series of Fighting welterweight (and former top UFC welterweight) Jon Fitch, the long-time veteran showed zero interest in competing against the dangerous leg lock specialist.
“It was a second offense,” said Fitch. “Holding onto a submission too long, especially with a joint lock like that. You’re talking about ending someone’s career potentially. I think it was the right move (to release him). I personally wouldn’t accept a fight with [Palhares] because of those. One time maybe, but not twice. I would never even compete against him honestly. If he’s got that long of a history of holding onto them too long, his career should probably be done because no one should take a fight with him or a grappling match with him for that matter.”
Palhares’ inability to let go of dangerous leg locks dates back well before his UFC career as well as in non-MMA bouts like his 2011 ADCC grappling contest against David Avellan. When asked what he would do if World Series of Fighting signed “Toquinho” and attempted to promote a fight against Fitch, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter had a simple response:
“It would be the first time in my career that I turned down a fight.”
