When Cain Velasquez (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/C2080A16A554CE39/Cain-Velasquez/) beat Junior dos Santos, the next challenger for the UFC (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=news.search&phrase=UFC) heavyweight championship was already lined up - Fabrcio Werdum. Now a report coming out of Mexico says the fight will be at UFC 172, at the league's debut show in Mexico.

It's a matter of days for the UFC will officially announced the first event in Mexico. The Arena Mexico City will host the marquee 172 event, broadcast on pay per view in the United States, that will be headlined by Cain Velasquez (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/C2080A16A554CE39/Cain-Velasquez/) vs. challenger for the heavyweight belt, the Brazilian Fabricio Werdum (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/584DB7540A5C83D4/Fabricio-Werdum/).
The date, the weekend of the 19th or April 26th 2014 is perfect for the Mexican American Velasquez, as he will have half a year to make full preparation. On Tuesday afternoon, the president Dana White confirmed that the announcement will take place on Mexican soil. That moment could come in the coming weeks as the company's promotional activity intensifies.
This Sunday, the heavyweight champion returns to Mexico for the second time in less than two months. One of the priorities of the company in 2014 is Latin America.
The matchmakers at the UFC, Sean Shelby and Joe Silva, are also working to ensure that fighters with Latin roots are included. Names such as Diego Sanchez, Gilbert Melendez, and Kelvin Gastelum are on the deck. Besides the possibility that Erik Perez Nuevo Leon fight on Mexican soil and the likely debuts of fighters that are in the development program for more than six months.
Another names that may be announced is Gabriel "Moggly" Tijuana Benitez, who will fight at 145 pounds on December 6 in Albuquerque, New Mexico in what could be his last fight before the promotion's debut show in Mexico. Other names include Augusto "Dodger" Montaņo and Argentine Martin Cannetti Guido, who have been training in the Greg Jackson camp.

**** UPDATE: UFC president Dana White told Yahoo Sports that the report from Milenio.com is incorrect (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mma-cagewriter/cain-velasquez-mri-left-shoulder-may-require-surgery-201422241--mma.html). Cain Velasquez injured his shoulder during his UFC heavyweight title win against Junior dos Santos at UFC 166 and may need surgery. Velasquez's fight has yet to be scheduled due to the injury.

Tuurlijk is Cain favoriet, maar ik zie ook echt wel kansen op de grond voor Werdum. Daarnaast is zn striking goed verbeterd

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez had one MRI on his left shoulder and is going to get another in order to determine if he needs surgery, his manager, Bob Cook told Yahoo Sports.
A Spanish-language web site reported Wednesday that Velasquez would defend his belt in the main event of UFC 172 in Mexico City on either April 19 or April 26 against Fabricio Werdum. UFC president Dana White told Yahoo Wednesday that is not true and that Velasquez's injury will delay any foray into Mexico.
It looks as though Cain Velasquez's (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122504/cain-velasquez) return to the ring will come at UFC 172 in the early part of 2014. Milenio is reporting (http://laaficion.milenio.com/masaficion/ufc-172-mexico-velasquez-werdum_0_184782177.html) that Velasquez will face off against Fabricio Werdum (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122505/fabricio-werdum)in Mexico City.
From the report (originally in Spanish and mangled via Google Translate):

It's a matter of days for the UFC officially announced the first event in Mexico. The Arena Mexico City will host the Billboard 172 company, a pay per view for America that will be headlined by Cain Velasquez and challenger for the heavyweight belt, the Brazilian Fabricio Werdum.
The date, the weekend of the 19th or April 26th 2014 is perfect for the Mexican American, because even though the medical suspension was discarded six months after his last defense, if you have half a year to make full preparation. On Tuesday afternoon, the president of the promoter Dana White (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/191797/dana-white) confirmed that the announcement will take place on Mexican soil as they become ready. That moment could come in the coming weeks as the company's promotional activity intensifies.
Werdum lost to Junior dos Santos at UFC 90 and then went to Strikeforce (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/promotion/strikeforce) where he became the man to end Fedor Emelianenko's win streak, going 3-1 in the company with the lone loss being an uninspired bout with Alistair Overeem (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122499/alistair-overeem).
Werdum has gone 3-0 since returning to the UFC, picking up wins over Roy Nelson (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/123062/roy-nelson), Mike Russow (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122500/mike-russow) and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122498/antonio-rodrigo-nogueira).
A late April date will mean that Werdum will spend almost a full year outside the cage.
One interesting wrinkle here could be using Cain to try and capture the Mexican audience. There is a longstanding rivalry in boxing (undisputedly the fight sport in Mexico) between Mexican and Mexican-American boxers. It's more of an on and off thing but it has been around for a long time, bubbling up from time to time. It's likely to not be a huge issue as Chris Arreola is Mexican-American and was received very well when he fought in Mexico in 2011.
That Cain isn't fighting against a Mexican opponent will likely mean that nothing comes of the rivalry, and I'm sure the UFC has plenty of market research to know how he has been received to this point. It's just an interesting little wrinkle that will be interesting to follow in terms of exactly how well he'll be embraced.

Ik vind het wel echt jammer dat Werdum maar een keer gevochten heeft dit jaar en dan pas in april 2014 weer...
