Jon Jones‘ next title defense will take place in Big D, as “Bones” meets Brazilian slugger Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 171.

The promotion’s plans were revealed on Wednesday’s new edition of “UFC Tonight.”
In November, UFC President Dana White announced that UFC 171 would take place on March 15 at Dallas American Airlines Center. However, a headlining bout was not revealed until now.

UFC 171 marks the third card that was at one time or another expected to feature Jones (19-1 MMA, 13-1 UFC) vs. Teixiera (22-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC), as UFC officials briefly linked the fight to February’s UFC 169 event before shifting it to UFC 170, later in the month. However, champ Jones was still on the mend from a “Fight of the Year” candidate win over Alexander Gustafsson, and the bout will now take place at UFC 171.

Jones currently boasts an incredible 10-fight win streak that includes victories over the likes of Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Most recently, he defeated a game Alexander Gustafsson in a “Fight of the Year” candidate and instant classic. Following the fight, UFC President Dana White hinted that a rematch seemed the most likely scenario but ultimately backed off that decision in favor of perhaps setting up an even more in-demand matchup later in the young guns’ careers.

At just 26 years old, “Bones” is already the most dominant light heavyweight champion in UFC history, defending his belt six consecutive times, more than UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz’s previous record of five defenses.

Meanwhile, Teixeira was named the No. 1 contender following first-round TKO over Ryan Bader in September. The Brazilian slugger boasts a 20-fight win streak of his own and has downed Ryan Bader, James Te Huna, Jackson, Fabio Maldonado and Kyle Kingsbury in his five UFC appearances to date. Among his 22 career wins are 13 knockouts and six submission, rendering him a danger to end the fight both on the feet and the floor.

Silva-St. Preux, McDaniel-Troeng booked for UFC 171 in Dallas

A pair of fights has been booked for the UFC’s March return to Dallas, including one that is a rescheduling.

Thiago Silva (16-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will meet Ovince St. Preux (14-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at light heavyweight, a bout that originally was set for next month’s UFC Fight Night 35. And at middleweight, Robert McDaniel (21-7 MMA, 1-1 UFC) takes on “TUF 17″ castmate Tor Troeng (16-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC). UFC officials announced the fights on Saturday.

UFC 171 takes place March 15 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The main card, featuring a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira, airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie.

In his most recent performance at UFC Fight Night 29, Silva earned his second straight win in the UFC with a dominant decision over Matt Hamill. Previously, he knocked out rival Rafael Cavalcante at UFC on FUEL TV 10, which likely saved his job after a rocky 1-3 stretch with two no contests courtesy of drug test failures.

Strikeforce vet St. Preux picked up his second straight win in the UFC by knocking out Cody Donovan at UFC Fight Night 26. In his promotional debut against Gian Villante at UFC 159, he earned a technical decision when Villante was unable to continue following an accidental eyepoke.

McDaniel will look to rebound after his first UFC loss, which snapped a seven-fight winning streak. The “TUF 17″ veteran won his official UFC debut at the TUF 17 Finale when he submitted Gilbert Smith in the third round in April. The Jackson-Winkeljohn product has 16 of his 21 career wins by submission.

Troeng, who was on Team Sonnen opposite McDaniel’s Team Jones on “TUF 17,” won his UFC debut in April in his home country of Sweden – fighting there before Season 17 of “The Ultimate Fighter” had its official finale. He submitted Adam Cella to run his winning streak to five fights. But September, he dropped a decision to Rafael Natal in Brazil for his first loss in nearly three years.

With the addition of the new bout, the UFC 171 card now includes:

Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira – for light heavyweight title
Ovince St. Preux vs. Thiago Silva
Bubba McDaniel vs. Tor Troeng

Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields slated for UFC 171 in Dallas

After telling MMAjunkie he wanted a fight with fellow welterweight Jake Shields (29-6-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC), Hector Lombard (33-4-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) received his wish.

UFC officials recently announced the bout, via ESPN.com, for UFC 171.

UFC 171 takes place March 15 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The main card, featuring a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira, airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie. Lombard vs. Shields likely will be part of the main card.

This past week, Lombard said he might be able to force the “boring” Shields into a good bout.

“I think he’s been so boring and me always trying for the KO, it’s going to be exciting,” Lombard said. “He’ll make it boring, or I’m going to end up knocking him out. It’s going to be one or another.”

Lombard, a former Bellator middleweight champ, recently moved his UFC record to .500 with a first-round knockout of ex-Strikeforce champion Nate Marquardt at UFC 166. The bout, which followed split-decision defeats to Tim Boetsch and Yushin Okami, marked the hard-hitting former Olympic judoka’s debut at welterweight after a long run at 185 pounds.

Shields, a former Strikeforce middleweight champ who unsuccessfully vied for the UFC welterweight title in 2011, has won his past four fights, though one was overturned due to a failed drug test (due to an undisclosed drug). However, since that no-contest with Ed Herman, the grappler has earned split-decision victories over Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia.

With the addition of the new bout, the UFC 171 card now includes:

Champ Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira – for light heavyweight title
Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields
Ovince St. Preux vs. Thiago Silva
Bubba McDaniel vs. Tor Troeng

Come March 15, the UFC will have it's first new welterweight champion in six years.

In the wake of longtime champion Georges St-Pierre's Friday announcement that he will vacate the title since he's held since April, 2008, the UFC will crown a new champion at UFC 171 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/174565/ufc-171).

Johny Hendricks (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/127154/johny-hendricks) will meet Robbie Lawler (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122558/robbie-lawler) to fill the title at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas.

Hendricks, of course, is coming off a controversial loss to St-Pierre at UFC 167 (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight-card/142181/ufc-167-st-pierre-vs-hendricks) on Nov. 16. Hendricks lost a split decision to St-Pierre in a bout many feel Hendricks won, to the point that it kicked off a heated and continuing debate of MMA's use of the 10-point must system.

Prior to the GSP loss, Hendricks (15-2) had won six consecutive fights.

As for Lawler (22-9, 1 NC), this is his golden opportunity to finally cash in on the title hopes predicted for him a decade ago. A can't miss-star who washed out of the UFC in 2004, Lawler has made the most of his return to the UFC. His victory over Rory MacDonald (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122584/rory-macdonald) at UFC 167 was his third straight win since returning to the company in February.

On Friday's media call, White explained why he chose Lawler for the spot instead of former UFC interim and WEC champ Carlos Condit (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fighter/122573/carlos-condit).

"Condit just had a shot at the title against Georges, and he had a shot against Hendricks. Robbie Lawler just beat the guy everyone wanted to see beat GSP. I'm working on something else for Carlos Condit."
UFC 171 is now shaping up as a blockbuster card. The welterweight title fight is added to a bill which includes a main event of light heavyweight champion Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira (http://www.sbnation.com/mma/fight/4521/ufc-169-jon-jones-vs-glover-teixeira).

Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler meet at UFC 171 for GSP’s vacated title

Either Johny Hendricks (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) or Robbie Lawler (22-9 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will win the belt today vacated by UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (25-2 MMA, 19-2 UFC).

Following St-Pierre’s announcement that he’s taking an indefinite break from competition and surrendering his long-held title, UFC President Dana White today announced that Hendricks and Lawler will fight for the vacant belt at UFC 171.

“It’ll be an absolute gun fight,” White said.

UFC 171 takes place March 15 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The main card, initially slated to feature a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira, airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie.

Although White initially said Jones vs. Teixeira would remain on the card, he later clarified it’s been moved to UFC 172.

In addition to Hendricks and Lawler, another fighter in the title mix is Carlos Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC). White, though, said he has a plan for the former interim title champion and expects him to fight on the UFC 171 card, as well. He didn’t name a potential opponent.

Hendricks recently fought St-Pierre for the title at UFC 167 and suffered a narrow split-decision defeat (though every major media outlet scored the fight for Hendricks) on Nov. 16. Prior to the setback, Hendricks had claimed No. 1 contender’s status with a six-fight winning streak. The former NCAA Division I national wrestling champ’s streak included wins over the likes of Condit, Martin Kampmann, Josh Koscheck and Jon Fitch.

Lawler, meanwhile, is enjoying a career resurgence since a drop down from middleweight. After rejoining the UFC and debuting at 170 pounds, the Strikeforce vet has posted three consecutive wins. The most recent, which came over highly touted (and St-Pierre training partner) Rory MacDonald, followed knockout wins over Koscheck and Bobby Voelker.

The latest UFC 171 card now includes:

Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler – for vacant welterweight title
Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields
Myles Jury vs. Diego Sanchez
Ovince St. Preux vs. Thiago Silva
Robert McDaniel vs. Tor Troeng
Alex Garcia vs. Sean Spencer

Dana White: Nick Diaz turned down rematch with Carlos Condit for UFC 171

With Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler booked for a shot at the UFC’s newly vacated welterweight title, UFC President Dana White on Saturday said he thought he had another high-profile fight booked for UFC 171.

Then Nick Diaz turned it down.

White said he offered Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) a fight against Carlos Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) on Saturday night at UFC on FOX 9, but Diaz passed on it. White said the offer came in person with Diaz cageside for the fight card, which took place in Sacramento.

Diaz, though, will remain out of action – by his own choosing. He told White he might return next spring, and that he would return for a title fight.

“He doesn’t want the fight,” White said at the post-event news conference for UFC on FOX 9 at Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena. “I thought he wanted the rematch – (UFC ranked) No. 10 (Diaz) vs. No. 1 (contender Condit). But he’s not interested. He said maybe he’d be interested in coming back in May.

“… He said, ‘I’ll fight the winner of Hendricks and Lawler.’ I said, ‘You’re ranked No. 10. It kind of doesn’t work that way.’”

Instead, White told MMAjunkie he’s faced with continuing the search for an appropriate opponent for Condit, who was slated to face Matt Brown on Saturday’s show before Brown was sidelined with an injury earlier this week.

“I’ve got to go back to the drawing board,” White said. “Condit accepted the fight immediately, but I didn’t get it done (with Diaz).”

Hendricks (15-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) and Lawler (22-9 MMA, 7-3 UFC) were booked to fight for the title at UFC 171 on March 15 in Dallas after champion Georges St-Pierre (25-2 MMA, 19-2 UFC) on Friday vacated the title to take time away from the sport.

Lawler is enjoying a career resurgence since a drop down from middleweight. After rejoining the UFC and debuting at 170 pounds, the Strikeforce vet has posted three consecutive wins. The most recent, which came over highly touted (and St-Pierre training partner) Rory MacDonald, followed knockout wins over Koscheck and Bobby Voelker.

Condit recently got back on track after a title unification loss to St-Pierre and subsequent loss to Hendricks when he stopped Kampmann in the fourth round at UFC Fight Night 27 in August. He fought Diaz for the UFC’s interim welterweight title at UFC 143 and took a unanimous decision. Diaz tested positive for marijuana after that fight and was suspended for a year. He returned in March of this year and fought St-Pierre for the title, but lost a unanimous decision and then essentially said he was going to retire. He’s been out of action ever since.

White said he wouldn’t put pressure on Diaz to fight, though.

“It’s not even about negotiating – he’s under contract,” White said. “It’s do you want to fight, or not want to fight. Obviously the Diaz brothers are very unique individuals. You don’t pressure a guy who’s not interested in fighting. In this business, you’ve got to have the fire or you shouldn’t do it.”

Carlos Condit vs. Tyron Woodley will be UFC 171’s co-main event

Welterweight stakes will be high when the UFC returns to Dallas in March.

UFC 171 already had the vacant 170-pound title on the line in a main event between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler when the UFC announced a welterweight bout between former interim champ Carlos Condit and Tyron Woodley.

Now that Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) vs. Woodley (12-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) fight will be the card’s co-main event. UFC President Dana White announced the news on Friday, elevating the status of a fight that already was a given for the main card.

UFC 171 takes place March 15 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1. It’s possible that the Condit-Woodley winner could be in line to fight the Hendricks-Lawler winner, who will be the UFC’s new welterweight champion now that Georges St-Pierre has vacated the belt to take a leave from the sport.

Condit is ranked No. 3, while Woodley is an Honorable Mention in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA welterweight rankings.

Condit had been booked for a fight against No. 9 Matt Brown at UFC on FOX 9 earlier this month, but a Brown injury knocked that fight from the card. White initially wanted Condit in a fight with a higher-ranked opponent than Woodley, and even tried to make a rematch with him and Nick Diaz – a fight that Diaz turned down.

But eventually, he relented when Woodley bombarded him with text messages asking him for the Condit fight.

Woodley came to the UFC after a long run in Strikeforce. He started his career 10-0, including 8-0 in Strikeforce to get to a shot at the vacant welterweight title in that promotion. But he was stopped by Nate Marquardt in the fourth round. He found quick success in the UFC when he moved over, knocking out Jay Hieron in just 36 seconds at UFC 156.

But at UFC 161, he suffered a controversial split-decision loss to Jake Shields in Canada – a fight that many observers saw in his favor. Five weeks ago, though, he bounced back in a big way with a “Knockout of the Night” win over Josh Koscheck at UFC 167 in Las Vegas.

Condit recently got back on the winning track by avenging a loss to Martin Kampmann in the main event of UFC Fight Night 27. Before that, he dropped a unanimous decision to Hendricks at UFC 158 in Montreal. That fight was his bid to bounce back from a title unification fight loss to St-Pierre at UFC 154.

Condit has won post-fight bonus awards in six of his past seven bouts. The one that he didn’t, he captured the interim title against Diaz while St-Pierre was on the shelf with a knee injury. In that stretch, he has four “Fight of the Night” wins and a pair of “Knockout of the Night” bonuses.

The UFC 171 card includes:

Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler - for vacant welterweight title
Carlos Condit vs. Tyron Woodley
Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields
Myles Jury vs. Diego Sanchez
Ovince St. Preux vs. Thiago Silva
Robert McDaniel vs. Tor Troeng
Alex Garcia vs. Sean Spencer
Will Campuzano vs. Darrell Montague

Damn...het zit Condit ook niet mee. Heb altijd gedacht dat die gast ooit("echt") kampioen zou zijn, maar dat gaat op deze manier wel moeilijk worden.

Kelvin Gastellum 16.000 incl win bonus?

ietsje ? Tering. Ik zocht het even op. Hij is ook bail-bonds man. Zonder bijwerken hebben die gasten niks.
En ik ben wel fan van hem. Iedereen onderschat hem.

Hij kon wel direct die Harley verkopen die hij gewonnen had.
