Ligt in elk geval niet aan Marc:

In the world of professional kickboxing, 2013 was an epic year. One that brought us some of the most incredible upsets, rematches, slugfests and knockouts in the history of the sport; all thanks to the hard work of the guys at Glory World Series (http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/).

The past year saw kickboxing firmly plant roots in the US, having four consecutive shows on American soil, two of which aired live on Spike TV. Well, Glory looks to make 2014 an even more explosive year, kicking it off with Glory 14's inaugural welterwerweight championship bout that will see #3 ranked Marc de Bonte (http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/fighters/view/1262) (82-9-1) lock horns with #1 ranked Nieky Holzken (http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/fighters/view/9) (77-11-1), a fight that was originally set for the opening round of Glory 13's welterweight tournament before getting scratched for political reasons.
Holzken, coming fresh off a stellar run through the tournament, is wasting no time getting back in the ring. The Dutch knuckle sniper has no desire to leave any doubt floating around in our minds (http://buddhasport.com/mma/striking/kickboxing/buddhasport-article/2013-12-06/nieky-holzken-they-all-say-they-will-defeat) that he is one of the best pound for pound kickboxers in the world. That said, de Bonte is hungry to take the spotlight and claim what he has fought 93 professional bouts to secure: the Glory welterweight title.
Holzken will certainly prove a stout test for de Bonte but the experienced Belgian has looked forward to a showdown with the boxing technician for quite some time. Fans worldwide can expect a sharp, well prepared and determined de Bonte come March 8th. Adding further to the intrigue, de Bonte has not only trained extensively with Holzken but is coming off a demolition KO win over L'houcine Ouzgni (http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/fighters/view/1145), a man that has bested Holzken, not once but twice.
The event will be headlined by fighting legend Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic (http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/fighters/view/2681) in his hometown of Zagreb, Croatia. Opposite the ring from him will be Remy Bonjasky (http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/fighters/view/274), setting up a rematch twelve years in the making. Their first encounter saw Filipovic the victor via TKO but after such a long time, it's possible this will be a different fight entirely. The rest of the fight card has yet to be announced but is rumored to play host to a four man middleweight contender tournament.
Breaking the language barrier yet again, Buddhasport brings you this exclusive pre-fight interview with Belgium's de Bonte, who mentions Artur Kyshenko (http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/fighters/view/1138) as his next desired fight as well as a catchweight rematch with Artem Levin (http://www.gloryworldseries.com/en/fighters/view/1191).
Dave Herbert: What is your mentality going into this fight against #1 ranked Nieky Holzken?
Marc de Bonte: I’m happy that I am facing Holzken. I've wanted to fight him for a long time so it feels good to finally get a shot at him. I’m going into this fight very confident. I know what I can do and I know Nieky pretty well. I truly believe I will come out with the Glory belt around my waist and that is how I will step in that ring. Victory is the only option.
DH: What did you think of Holzken's performance throughout the tournament?
MDB: In my opinion he put on a great show, fought very smart and his boxing was really on point. He displayed everything that a good champion should in a tough tournament like that. I'm really looking forward to facing him.
DH: Holzken's boxing is looking fantastic and he plans on competing professionally. Do you see his vastly improved boxing as much of a threat or do you think your boxing is just as good?
MDB: I do see his boxing as a threat in the way that he possesses really heavy hands and has KO power in his punches. I do not see his skills in boxing as a threat though, only his power. Holzken's boxing is good but I box professionally as well, mostly in Germany where I have a promoter. I train and spar often with the likes of WBO and former IBF middleweight world champion, Arthur Abraham. I'll be ready for anything Nieky dishes out.
DH: When you were removed from the tournament in Tokyo to be replaced by the American, Raymond Daniels, Glory no doubt offered you something just as good. Did you know all along that you would be fighting the winner of the tournament?
MDB: I had a keen feeling they would put me against the tournament champion, so I was watching the fights closely. I’m just really happy Holzken won it because I have wanted to fight him for a long time. Get ready for a great fight!
DH: You defeated L'houcine Ouzgni with a vicious knee KO back in April, a man who has beaten Holzken twice before. Do you feel this gives you a mental edge going into this fight?
MDB: I don’t think it really gives me that much of an edge. Just because I won against Ouzgni doesn't mean I would against Holzken. Every fighter is different and every fight has to be fought differently.
DH: Both you and Holzken have roots in Muay Thai competition. That said, do you wish Glory rules allowed for elbows?
MDB: I would love to have the clinch and elbows because those are deep in my roots. I’ve always trained and fought using them. However, the last two years I’ve been fighting under Glory rules so I'm more than prepared enough to meet Nieky under Glory rules.
DH: Is there anyone in particular you would like to fight in the future?
MDB: Actually, I heard that Artur Kyshenko is competing at welterweight now. Win or lose, I would love to get a crack at him next.
DH: You were defeated by top middleweight Artem Levin as an amateur. Would you be up for a rematch as a pro under the Glory banner?
MDB: Of course I'd love to fight Artem again. I also think I would perform much better against him under the Glory rules of fighting. The fight would certainly have to be at a catchweight since I am focusing mainly on the welterweight division but I'd be up for it.
DH: Have you ever competed in Croatia? If no, describe how you feel about fighting for the Croatian crowd?
MDB: I’ve never fought in Croatia but with Mirko fighting, I'm sure it will be an enormous event. I'm excited to fight for the Croatian crowd and hope to put on a great show for them.
DH: Are you looking forward to the prospect of fighting for the American crowd when Glory returns to the states?
MDB: Yeah, I’ve seen the events in America and the crowd looks really into it. They really cheer for you and give the fighters the respect they deserve. Can't wait to fight over there.
DH: I ask all high-level kickboxers this... Are you a fan of MMA?
MDB: Yeah, I am a big MMA fan and I like to watch the UFC events. Mostly I enjoy the stand up part but it's also nice to see somebody who can really do the ground game and change the fight because of it.
DH: Have you ever considered competing in MMA yourself?
MDB: I actually have considered it but in Belgium and Holland you don’t really have an MMA community so I just stuck to kickboxing and boxing and it worked out just fine for me.
DH: As someone who's an expert on the subject of kicking, what are your thoughts on the horrific Anderson Silva leg break from the low kick he threw?
MDB: It was a terrible injury. I don't know if he will ever recover and be one hundred percent after that. That is the risk you run when you don't turn your hip into the kick. Also I believe he should first guide his kick in from a combination. That way it would be more difficult to check the kicks.
DH: What is your prediction for the main event? (Cro Cop vs Bonjasky)
MDB: That’s a tough fight to predict. I think Bonjasky on points or Mirko by KO.
DH: Any message (negative or positive) you would like to relay to Holzken?
MDB: Good luck my friend! I’m looking forward to the 8th of March and I will be sharp as a knife so be sure to keep your hands up.

Vreemd..
