Fans had hoped that former UFC (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=news.search&phrase=UFC) middleweight champion Anderson Silva (http://www.MixedMartialArts.com/f/242FF47B616AC3E5/Anderson-Silva/) would fight in 2014, beginning a run towards to the title.
However, in an interview with Brazil's Combate that he won't be back in 2014, and he doesn't anticipate going for the title. It should be noted however that not everything Silva says in every interview ends up being the case.
"These rumors that I’ll fight at UFC 181 or any other event around that date aren’t true," said Silva, as translated by MMAFighting's Guilherme Cruz (http://twitter.com/guicruzzz). "This year is over for me. There’s a chance I’ll fight in the first half of 2015."
"Anderson’s phase as the champion is over. Fighting for (the title) is a little far away from me."
"I don’t see myself stopping (right now), but I don’t know if I will fulfill my 10-fight contract. My family has been asking me for years to stop fighting, and they need to understand that this is what I love to do and that I need to have my time. My goal in the sport was to become a reference in this sport, and I’m achieving this."

Uiteindelijk zijn keuze. Zolang hij de wil heeft zie ik hem graag nog een paar gevechten winnen.
