For the past several weeks, rumors have been floating around the MMA media that the UFC was pursuing Gina Carano for a return to the Octagon.
Carano openly stated that she would definitely be interested in a return, but UFC President Dana White refuted the claim that they were negotiating.
But tonight on a special edition of UFC Tonight, White joined the cast and officially announced that Carano had indeed signed to return to the UFC. And not only had she signed, but she would be immediately put into a title fight versus champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 175 as the co-main event.
UFC 175 is headlined by a middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machid and takes place in Las Vegas on July 5th.
“This is a huge moment for UFC and especially women’s MMA. We feel like this could be the most watched UFC fight ever,” said White.
Carano has been out of mixed martial arts since 2009, a loss to Cris Cyborg. Despite the layoff, she is being thrust directly into the title fight as the UFC likely did not want to risk devaluing the fight should Carano take and lose a warmup fight.
And if that wasn’t enough, White then announced that the two would also square off in the first ever, ‘bikinis only, jello MMA match.’ The UFC already received approval from the NSAC to hold this special rules match.
Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada Commission, spoke to the Underground about the fight: “We are very excited to help the UFC usher in this new breed of combat sports and look forward to a new exciting kind of MMA that fans of all ages and backgrounds can get behind.”
So there you have it. The UFC again made history and announced what is sure to be the most epic UFC bout of all-time.

Daniel Cormier*will not be fighting Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante next after all.

Instead, Cormier (14-0) will face*Dan Henderson*(30-11) on July 5 at*UFC 175, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. The promotion is expected to announce the news in the coming days.

On last week's episode of "UFC Tonight," it was reported that Cormier vs. Cavalcante was being discussed for the event -- and it was -- however, the promotion decided to offer Henderson the Cormier fight following his thrilling comeback win over Shogun Rua on March 23. Had Henderson turned down the fight for whatever reason, the UFC most likely would have booked Cormier vs. Cavalcante.

The fight will pit two former Olympians. Cormier, a 2004 and 2008 member of the USA Wrestling Olympic team, improved to 14-0 in his light heavyweight debut last month when he defeated*Patrick Cummins*via first-round TKO.

The 43-year-old Henderson, a 1992 and 1996 member of the USA Wrestling Olympic team, snapped a three-fight losing streak when he defeated Rua last week.

UFC 175, headlined by*Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida*for the UFC middleweight title, will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Ik hoop dat jullie wisten van de 1 april grap anders heb je wat uit te leggen, want als zoiets echt zou gebeuren zou het 10x belachelijker zijn dan Brock Lesnar's titleshot en dat was 6 jaar geleden.

Ronda Rousey defends title against Alexis Davis at UFC 175
april 12, 2014 1:18 by Dave Doyle

So much for all that talk about Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano. At least for now.

In a Friday night tweet which came out of the blue, UFC president Dana White announced that Rousey will defend her women's bantamweight title against Alexis Davis at UFC 175 on July 5 in Las Vegas.

The bout will be the third title defense in just over six months for Rousey (9-0). She defeated Miesha Tate via third-round armbar at UFC 168 on Dec. 28 and Sara McMann via first-round TKO in the main event of UFC 170. Since then, she's been filming her role in the upcoming "Entourage" movie.

While all the conjecture about future opponents for Rousey have included talk about Carano, the first big women's MMA star, former Strikeforce champ Cris Cyborg, and even Holly Holm, Davis has actually gone about building her case the old-fashioned way. The Port Colborne, Ont. native is 16-5 and has won five consecutive bouts, including a split decision over Jessica Eye at UFC 170.

Rousey and Davis are the only women with 3-0 UFC records.

With this announcement, UFC 175 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas is now shaping up as a blockbuster card. Also announced are Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida for the middleweight title and Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva. The following evening, the same arena will host The TUF 19 Finale, featuring B.J. Penn vs. Frankie Edgar.
