Jose Aldo, the Ultimate Fighting Championship's dominant featherweight champion, will defend his belt in a rematch against top-ranked contender Chad Mendes of Sacramento on Aug. 2 at Staples Center in UFC 176.
Aldo (24-1) is the UFC's second-ranked pound-for-pound fighter. He last fought at UFC 169 in February, beating Ricardo Lamas by unanimous decision.
The Brazilian handed Mendes (16-1) his only defeat, in January 2012 at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro, by first-round technical knockout.
Since then, Mendes is 5-0 with four knockouts.
Aldo is 6-0 in the UFC and ranked behind only light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones in the organization's pound-for-pound rankings.
Staples Center hasn't hosted a UFC card in two years, when former light-heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua defeated Brandon Vera.
Tickets for UFC 176 go on sale June 13.

Jussier Formiga vs. Zach Makovsky added to UFC 176 in August

A flyweight matchup between Jussier Formiga (http://mmajunkie.com/tag/jussier-formiga) (16-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and Zach Makovsky (http://mmajunkie.com/tag/zach-makovsky) (18-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC) is the latest addition to the UFC 176 lineup.
The new contest was first reported by Philly.com (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/other_sports/050614_Phillys_Zach_Makovsky_to_face_Jussier_Formi ga_at_UFC_176.html) and later confirmed by UFC officials.
Featuring a featherweight title fight rematch between current champ Jose Aldo and top challenger Chad Mendes, UFC 176 takes place Aug. 2 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims that air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on UFC Fight Pass.
Formiga is currently ranked No. 7 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings (http://mmajunkie.com/rankings), while Makovsky sits at No. 11. The placement of the Formiga vs. Makovsky matchup on the evening’s lineup wasn’t immediately revealed.
Formiga fought most recently in March, where he earned a first-round submission win over Scott Jorgensen. After the fight, Jorgensen pointed to an inadvertent head butt as the reason he was wobbled and unable to defend, but an appeal of the result was denied.
Meanwhile, Makovsky made his UFC debut just five months ago but has already picked up a pair of wins. In his promotion debut, “Fun Size” scored a decision win over Jorgensen. He returned to action in February, when he earned a decision over Josh Sampo.

Aldo gaat/moet binnenkort naar LW. Hij wordt met het gevecht gespierder en droger...

Het zou mooi zijn als we de 'oude' Aldo weer eens zien.
Dus iets minder op safe en zijn creativiteit weer eens te gebruiken voor een mooie stoppage. Mendes zijn stiking is niet technisch als aldo maar heeft wel power. Dat zie ik dan ook als zijn enige kans.
