Alistair Overeem (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/32/alistair-overeem) has joined the Jackson-Winkeljohn camp in New Mexico, and looks like he won’t be missed at Blackzilians.
Gilbert "Durinho" Burns, one of the young prospects at the Blackzilians team who joined the camp with his longtime friend Vitor Belfort (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/83/vitor-belfort), claims that Overeem left the team after he injured fellow UFC heavyweight Guto Inocente (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/1084/guto-inocente) during a sparring session.
"There’s a story that fighters kept in the gym," Burns said on Sexto Round podcast (http://sextoround.com.br/12637-gilbert-durinho-tuf-brasil-3-erick-silva-x-matt-brown/). "Guto was recovering from a knee injury, returning to training, and, even with a broken hand, he was beating Overeem up in a striking sparring.
"Overeem got mad because he was getting beat up by a guy with one hand, so he took Guto down and blew out his other knee. That’s why Guto hasn’t fought in a while. We were all upset about it, and that was when (Overeem) left the team. After he left, the team got better and we had better results. Thank God he left the team."
Inocente confirmed the incident to MMAFighting.com.
"It was a kickboxing sparring," Inocente said. "I was kicking his a-- and he took me down. Unexpected.'
"Durinho" says Overeem is "cocky" and used to get beat up by other members of the team, including UFC fighters Anthony Johnson (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/434/anthony-johnson), Rashad Evans (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/43/rashad-evans) and Vitor Belfort.
"He’s an arrogant man," Burns said. "He’s exactly how he looks to be. One thing is getting in the gym and talking to me or a younger guy, but another thing is go there and not talk to Rashad, Vitor, Tyrone Spong (http://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/259/tyrone-spong), coach Henri (Rooft).
"He’s cocky, and the team got better when he left. He’s really tough, but he’s not that monster that he appears to be. I saw him get beat up bad in training by Anthony Johnson, Rashad, Vitor and Tyrone."
Training with top fighters in Florida, Burns has amassed a perfect 6-0 MMA record with six finishes. The jiu-jitsu world champion hopes to eventually join his teammates in the UFC, but he wants to be ready for it.
While he waits for a call from the UFC, "Durinho" will decide if he will move up to welterweight or continue at 155 and make his Legacy FC debut on July 18.
"I’m not in a hurry to be in the UFC, I’m not focused on that right now," he said. "I’m focused on learning and evolving. I want to enter the UFC like Glover (Teixeira) did. I want to get there and beat everybody up so people will say ‘Durinho' got here to fight for the title.’
"I also don’t want to get there because of Vitor (Belfort). I want to earn it, I want to deserve it. I want to knock people out, submit them, and one day I will be in the UFC. It’s the natural way."

Little man syndrome.

Beat up with one hand bla bla bla.

Tja ik vraag me af of dit serieus is.. Misschien kan Alistair hier zelf op reageren. ;)

Echter, laat ik me graag verrassen.

Update: Overeem provided this response to MMAFighting.com.
"Seems to me, without throwing any jabs, that leaving Boca was an excellent choice," he said. "I wish all my former teammates the best."

Rarely is the addition of a top-10 heavyweight into a gym's ranks ever a cause for concern. But when it comes to Alistair Overeem, things are never that simple.

A perennial lightning rod for controversy, Overeem is expected to join Albuquerque's famed Jackson-Winkeljohn gym for his next fight camp. Greg Jackson's motley squad includes a host of notable UFC names such as Travis Browne and light heavyweight champ Jon Jones, which would provide an intruding cast of training partners to aid Overeem in his ascent back up the heavyweight rankings.

Overeem's decision, though, comes on the heels of a mass backlash led against the Dutchman by his former training partners in Boca Raton, as several members of the Blackzilian camp have expressed their pleasure at Overeem's departure, while Gilbert Burns alleged that Overeem injured the knee of fellow UFC heavyweight Guto Inocente during a particularly nasty sparring session.

Jackson's top heavyweight, however, isn't concerned.

"I think everybody is due a chance," Browne said on The MMA Hour. "Just because he wasn't the best teammate there doesn't mean he can't be a good teammate here.

"When he comes to Jackson's, the stuff that all his other teammates were saying that he did is not going to fly at Jackson's. He will not have an opportunity to even let it get that far. Like, if he says, ‘oh hey, Coach, I'm going to bring in my own guys and work out at night,' Coach Jackson would be like, ‘you can either train with the team or you can leave.'"

Browne, who actually fought and defeated Overeem via first-round TKO in August 2013, added that a culture of pandering to Overeem's many requests while he was with the Blackzilians likely led to the situation in Florida reaching its acrimonious conclusion -- a culture which will not be tolerated for one second in Albuquerque.

"I feel like a lot of people, because he's Alistair Overeem, have catered to him," Browne said. "I feel like the Blackzilians probably catered to him so he got used to it and he felt like he was going to be able to throw his weight around a little bit.

"At Jackson's, that's not going to fly. You're either part of the team or you're not. If you're not part of the team, get the hell out of here. We don't need you here. We didn't ask you to come here. You asked to come here, you see something here that you need. So you're either part of the team, or leave."
