WBA Alexander Povetkin (27-1, 19 KO’s) showed the difference between him and #7 WBC Manuel Charr (26-2, 15 KO’s) in stopping him in the 7th round to win the vacant WBC International heavyweight title in a mostly one-sided fight at the Luzhniki, in Moscow, Russia.
Povetkin nailed Charr with a 4-punch combination in the 7th round to put Charr down on his back. The fight was then immediately halted due to Charr being too hurt to get back to his feet.
Povetkin nailed Charr with a huge left uppercut to the head that hurt him. Povetkin immediately fired off a looping right hook to the head that snapped Charr’s head around sideways. Povetkin then connected with a nice left hook that sent Charr falling backwards towards the referee. At this point Charr was in the process of falling, but Povetkin then added a tremendous right hand to the head that whip-lashed Charr’s head as he was falling. Charr partially hit the ropes while falling and came to rest on top of a large pad and photographer’s camera.
Povetkin dominated the first two rounds by staying inside and nailing Charr with hooks to the head and body. Charr did a good job of keeping his guard up to block a lot of Povetkin’s shots, but he wasn’t able to stop all of them. Povetkin kept finding holes in Charr’s guard was hitting him hard. Povetkin had a lot of luck in landing uppercuts that were snapping Charr’s head back.
Charr hit Povetkin after the bell in both the 1st and 2nd rounds. He also landed a couple of low blows, and he spent a great deal of the fight putting his forearm into the face of Povetkin and then hitting him while his vision was obscured.
By the 6th round, Charr was looking tired and bruised around his right eye. He did a lot of clinching in the 6th round, and he seemed like he wasn’t going to last much longer. Povetkin was landing at will at that point and there was nothing Charr could do but take the shots.
Overall, Charr did a good job of covering up and taking blows to the head and body, but he wasn’t competitive in the fight. He did try and land shots, but he missed most of his best punches due to Povetkin’s upper body movement, and his nifty footwork.

ik heb heel de partij gezien, povetkin was vanaf het begin de veel betere. povetkin is een beetje de best of the rest want tegen een klitschko maakte hij geen schijn van kans
