When it was announced that UFC (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=news.search&phrase=UFC) light heavyweight Jon Jones (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/54494EFC3CC798A0/Jon-Jones/) had tested positive for cocaine metabolites prior to his fight with Daniel Cormier, he announced that he had was checking himself into a rehab program.
"I want to apologize to my fiancée, my children, as well as my mother, father, and brothers for the mistake that I made," Jones said in a prepared statement. "I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously."
The UFC issued a positive statement about Jones entering rehab.
"We support UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/54494EFC3CC798A0/Jon-Jones/)’ decision to enter a drug treatment facility to address his recent issue," read the statement. "While we are disappointed in the failed test, we applaud him for making this decision to enter a drug treatment facility. Jon is a strong, courageous fighter inside the Octagon, and we expect him to fight this issue with the same poise and diligence. We commend him on his decision, and look forward to him emerging from this program a better man as a result."
Although it was nowhere stated explicitly, the assumption was that this was an inpatient treatment facility.
However, rumors circulated that Jones spent just a single night in rehab. Then his mother told a local television station that he had spent just one night in the facility (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/449689/Jon-Jones-reportedly-spends-one-night-in-rehab-program/). And it was reported Jones would be flying to Boston to watch brothers Arthur (Indianapolis Colts) and Chandler (New England Patriots) face off in the AFC championship game.
It did not feel to the hardcore fanbase as if Jones was in fact taking the program seriously. As there are so many misinformed fans, it has to be reiterated that Jones was tested for recreational drugs in error. The NAC follows WADA guidelines on the prohibition of drugs that effect athletic performance. Drugs like cocaine are prohibited In competition, defined as twelve hours or less before a competition, but their use is not prohibited out of competition, as it has no performance enhancing benefit.
Jon Jones (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/54494EFC3CC798A0/Jon-Jones/) use of cocaine out of competition is a matter between himself and his family, his pastor, local and state law enforcement, his fans, and his employer, but at present it is not an issue with the Nevada Athletic Commission.
Now, in an interview with Jack Encarnacao for the Boston Herald (http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/other/ultimate_fighting/2015/01/ufc_boss_dana_white_refutes_jon_jones_rehab_report s), UFC president Dana White (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=news.search&phrase=Dana%20White) says it is “not necessarily the case” that Jones spent just one day in rehab.
“When the whole story comes out, people will understand, it will be put into perspective,” said White. “When Jon Jones (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/54494EFC3CC798A0/Jon-Jones/)comes out and does his interview, the truth will come out, and everyone will understand. Or they won’t, you know. Jon is a very polarizing guy, people either love him or they hate him. Either way, the truth will come out soon.”
White also explained his decision to go ahead with the Comier fight, despite the positive test for a recreational drug. The UFC code of conduct allows for
UFC code of conduct allows the UFC to discipline fighters for “criminal offenses relating to performance-enhancing and prohibited substances, or substance abuse.” However, White pointed out that Jones was charged with no crime, and had a signed contract to fight.
“You can bust guys, you can fine guys, but I can’t pull him out of a fight,” said White. “That thing will be in a lawsuit in 3.5 seconds and I’ll lose. So then we don’t have a fight and I’ve still got to pay the money.”
“When you start talking about cocaine and some of these other drugs, that’s hardcore stuff, man, and that’s when people need help. o I want to know that. I wish I could know what everybody was doing, but you can’t police 567 guys year-round.

Hun advocaten zijn nu nog even bezig een verhaal in elkaar te draaien waarme ze wat krom is recht kunnen lullen, maar dan komt de "waarheid" echt op tafel.

Inclusief een huilende Jones op een persconferentie.
