When top light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/6D0BC38F2330A9C3/Alexander-Gustafsson/) wins, he has a solid triangle tattooed on his right arm. When he loses, the triangle is hollow. When he loses via controversial decision to former UFC (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=news.search&phrase=UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, the triangle is half full.

In an interview with MMAViking, "The Mauler" said he will be having a hollow one done soon for his last fight, a loss to to Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC on FOX 14 on January 24, 2015.
"It's going to happen," said Gustafsson as transcribed by David St. Martin (http://twitter.com/SaintMMA) for MMAFighting.com (http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/6/5/8733083/morning-report-ufc-alexander-gustafsson-daniel-cormier-dana-white-jose-aldo-rousey-mcgregor-mma-news). "It's very painful but I have to do it. It's going to be empty and plain. That was a brutal loss but now I'm sitting here. It's all over and I'm just feeling very motivated and I'm looking forward to the fight."
The fight he is referring to is a title shot vs. new champion Daniel Cormier (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/f/53958F286CF4E375/Daniel-Cormier/), who beat Anthony Johnson for the title DC (http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/451674/Jones-suspended-title-stripped-%3Ca%20href=)-vs-AJ-for-title-at-UFC-187/" target="_blank">vacated by Jon Jones' legal issues. It is highly unusual for a fighter coming off a loss to get a title shot; and Gustafsson acknowledged he was not expecting it.
"I haven't actually even been thinking that much about the belt," he said. "I haven't seen myself in that position, really, because of my loss. But here I am now and I'm very thankful. I'm so happy and very excited. I can't wish for more."
Gustafsson also offered a blunt explanation for why he got the title shot over, for example, Ryan Bader who is on a four-fight win streak.
"I believe that the UFC wants to see me against DC," said Gustafsson. "That's so simple. They really want to see us fight. Also, a good job from my managers, too. They've been working hard for this opportunity and I'm very thankful for this so I can't wait."
Gustafsson watched Cormier defeat Johnson at UFC 187 last month, and said he saw ways to beat the new champion.
"Tons of them," said Gustafsson. "It was so frustrating to watch that fight, but it is what it is. Anthony did a great job winning over me. All credit to him. DC did a great job against Anthony. That's MMA."
The date for his title challenge has not been set, but Gustafsson said he hopes it after the Summer.
