Originally slated for Angola in Africa, rumors are now pointing for SuperKombat's World Grand Prix Finals event to be moved to Germany instead. The move was reported by Kickfighter Magazine (http://www.kickfighter-magazin.de/news.php?act=1&show_id=1205) in Germany and it will be to ISS Dome in Dusseldorf, Germany. The ISS Dome can house between 12,000 - 13,000 fans according to the setup and seems like a large, bold move for SuperKombat. This seems in line with rumors of a possible new German investor for the promotion.
Other rumors include Danyo Ilunga fighting Andrei Stoica for his Cruiserweight championship along with possibly an 8-man heavyweight tournament on the show. We've yet to get a response from SuperKombat officials just yet on the situation but there has been a buzz among the SuperKombat faithful over the past few weeks of a "big announcement" coming soon and the move to Germany with an 8-man tournament featuring bigger, available names would be exactly that.
SuperKombat was best known for their 2011 season that saw them capitalize on the rather uncertain future in the world of kickboxing by bringing in some of the world's top talents for tournaments and bigger events. The landscape changed shortly thereafter with the formation of GLORY and exclusive or semi-exclusive contracts but SuperKombat kept themselves visible by breeding homegrown talent, which led to fighters like Benjamin Adegbuyi, Bogdan Stoica and Andrei Stoica making names for themselves internationally.
With the future of kickboxing looking once again a bit shaky it is interesting to see that SuperKombat is looking to once again make big moves and do their part for keeping kickboxing as a viable sport for the near future.
