Geen bijzondere card. Leuk om Siyar, brown en Lawler te zien. Maar de andere partijen zijn niet zo bijzonder.

Mighty mouse vs reis is wel een slecht teken. De divisie is helemaal leeg.

Jorge Masvidal replaces Claudio Silva, meets Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC 201

Jorge Masvidal (29-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC) has stepped in for an injured Claudio Silva (11-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and now will meet Siyar Bahadurzada (22-6-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) at UFC 201.

UFC officials today announced the change in plans.

Featuring a welterweight title fight between current champ Robbie Lawler and challenger Tyron Woodley, UFC 201 takes place July 30 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Bahadurzada recently returned from a 27-month layoff and snapped a two-fight skid with a submission victory over Brandon Thatch. The 32-year-old Afghan fighter, who has 18 stoppages in 22 career wins, was expected to meet Silva, who’s picked up decision wins over Brad Scott and Leon Edwards since joining the UFC.

Instead, he’ll now face Masvidal (29-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC), who wastes little time in booking a return fight after suffering a split-decision loss to Lorenz Larkin at May’s UFC Fight Night 88 event. Masvidal has now suffered back-to-back defeats, with both coming by way of split decision.

With the change to the card, UFC 201 now includes:

Champ Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley – for welterweight title
Champ Demetrious Johnson vs. Wilson Reis – for flyweight title
Cesar Arzamendia vs. Damien Brown
Michael Graves vs. Bojan Velickovic
Erik Perez vs. Francisco Rivera
Damian Grabowski vs. Anthony Hamilton
Matt Brown vs. Jake Ellenberger
Ed Herman vs. Nikita Krylov
Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Rose Namajunas
Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Jorge Masvidal
Ian McCall vs. Justin Scoggins

Illness forces Siyar Bahadurzada out of UFC 201, UFC seeks opponent for Jorge Masvidal

After stepping as a replacement opponent at UFC 201, Jorge Masvidal is now in need of a new foe.

The 32-year-old Afghan fighter, who has 18 stoppages in 22 career wins, was originally expected to meet Claudio Silva (11-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), who’s picked up decision wins over Brad Scott and Leon Edwards since joining the UFC.

However, when injury forced Silva out Masvidal stepped in to take his place.

Masvidal (29-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC), wastes little time in looking for a return fight after suffering a split-decision loss to Lorenz Larkin at May’s UFC Fight Night 88 event. Masvidal has now suffered back-to-back defeats, with both coming by way of split decision.

With the change to the card, the UFC 201 lineup now includes:
Champ Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley – for welterweight title
Wilson Reis vs. opponent TBA
Matt Brown vs. Jake Ellenberger
Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Rose Namajunas
Ed Herman vs. Nikita Krylov
Jorge Masvidal vs. opponent TBA

Ross Pearson moves up, replaces Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Jorge Masvidal at UFC 201

Ross Pearsonis looking for a quick turnaround – while doing so in a new weight class.

As MMAjunkie first reported on Tuesday, Siyar Bahadurzada (22-6-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) was recently forced out of his UFC 201 bout with Jorge Masvidal (29-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC) due to an illness. Lightweight Pearson (19-11 MMA, 11-8 UFC) has agreed to move up a weight class to fill in, ESPN.com‘s Brett Okamoto today reported.

UFC 201 takes place July 30 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Pearson fought this past week at The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to former Bellator lightweight champ and promotional newcomer Will Brooks. Pearson, who’s previously competed at lightweight and featherweight, has alternated wins and losses over his past nine bouts. The 31-year-old winner of “The Ultimate Fighter 9” looks to avoid the first back-to-back losses of his career.

Masvidal, meanwhile, suffered a split-decision defeat to Loren Larkin in May and is now 1-3 over his past four fights; however, all of the losses (to Larkin, Benson Henderson and Al Iaquinta) have come via split decision. The 31-year-old hasn’t been finished in a fight in more than seven years.

With the change to the card, the UFC 201 lineup now includes:
Champ Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley – for welterweight title
Wilson Reis vs. opponent TBA
Matt Brown vs. Jake Ellenberger
Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Rose Namajunas
Ed Herman vs. Nikita Krylov
Jorge Masvidal vs. Ross Pearson
Erik Perez vs. Francisco Rivera
Michael Graves vs. Bojan Velickovic
Damian Grabowski vs. Anthony Hamilton
Cesar Arzamendia vs. Damien Brown
Ian McCall vs. Justin Scoggins

Wilson Reis gets yet another opponent for UFC 201: Hector Sandoval in for Sean Santella

The game of musical chairs going on with Wilson Reis’ spot at UFC 201 continued today – hopefully, for his sake, for the last round.

Reis (20-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC) was supposed to challenge flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (24-2-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) for the title later this month at UFC 201 until the champ was knocked out with an injury. But Reis stayed on the card against promotional newcomer Sean Santella (15-5-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Instead, though, Santella was forced out of the fight because he wasn’t able to clear pre-fight medical tests in time. Now Reis will meet yet another newbie: Hector Sandoval (12-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC). The UFC today announced the new booking.

UFC 201 takes place in less than two weeks on July 30 at Philips Arena in Atlanta. The main card, including a welterweight title fight between champ Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley, airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Sandoval, who trains at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, Calif., is a Tachi Palace Fights veteran who has won four straight fights and 12 of his past 13 since dropping his pro debut in 2008.

Reis, No. 7 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings has won three of his past four fights, the most recent a unanimous-decision victory over Dustin Ortiz at UFC on FOX 18 in January.
Santella, a New Jersey-based fighter, owns 10 submissions in 15 career wins. The 31-year-old CFFC and ROC vet is riding a two-fight winning streak with seven wins (and one no-contest) in his past 10 bouts. It’s not known when he will make his UFC debut.

With the change, the latest UFC 201 card now includes:

Champ Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley – for welterweight title
Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Rose Namajunas
Matt Brown vs. Jake Ellenberger
Erik Perez vs. Francisco Rivera
Ed Herman vs. Nikita Krylov
Jorge Masvidal vs. Ross Pearson
Wilson Reis vs. Hector Sandoval
Damian Grabowski vs. Anthony Hamilton
Michael Graves vs. Bojan Velickovic
Cesar Arzamendia vs. Damien Brown
Ian McCall vs. Justin Scoggins
