Anthony Pettis drops to 145, meets Charles Oliveira at UFC on FOX 21 in Vancouver on Aug. 27

The UFC is returning to Canada in August, and a former champion will debut in a new division on the card.

Ex-lightweight champ Anthony Pettis (18-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC) will make his drop to featherweight at UFC on FOX 21 when he meets Charles Oliveira (21-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC). FOXSports.com first brought news of the booking and event today, which later was announced by UFC officials.

UFC on FOX 21 will take place Aug. 27 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The main card will air on FOX following prelims expected for FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. The placement of the Pettis-Oliveira fight has not been announced, but it will not be the card’s main event.

UFC on FOX 21 will be the promotion’s fourth visit to Vancouver. UFC 115 took place at Rogers Arena in June 2010. UFC 131 was there a year later. And three years after that, UFC 174 touched down there in June 2014.

Pettis recently said on his social media pages he was planning to drop from lightweight to featherweight. Now his intentions are official.

Pettis is in dire need of a win. After winning the lightweight title by submitting Benson Henderson at UFC 164, he defended the belt with a submission of Gilbert Melendez at UFC 181. But at UFC 185 in March 2015, he was dominated by Rafael dos Anjos and surrendered the crown.

After 10 months on the sidelines, he returned against Eddie Alvarez in January in Boston, but dropped a split decision. And in April, at UFC 197, he lost a decision to Edson Barboza for his third straight setback.

Oliveira has won five of his past six fights. After a “Fight of the Night” decision loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC 162, he rattled off four straight wins – and picked up four bonuses in the process. His submissions of Andy Ogle, Hatsu Hioki and Nik Lentz all won performance bonuses, and the Lentz win also was “Fight of the Night” in May 2015.

After a bizarre injury TKO loss to Max Holloway in the UFC Fight Night 74 main event this past August in Canada, he rebounded in December at UFC on FOX 17 with a submission win over Myles Jury.

Garreth McLellan vs. Alessio Di Chirico added to August's UFC on FOX 21 card in Vancouver

The UFC is wasting no time starting to set up bouts for its late summer return to Canada.

After announcing UFC on FOX 21 for Vancouver in British Columbia earlier today, the promotion has confirmed a middleweight fight for the lineup. South Africa’s Garreth McLellan (13-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will take on Italy’s Alessio Di Chirico (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) on the card.

UFC on FOX 21 takes place Aug. 27 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The main card will air on FOX following prelims expected for FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Already announced for the card is a featherweight bout between former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and Charles Oliveira, though that will not be the main event.

McLellan will be looking to get back in the win column after a TKO loss to Magnus Cedenblad, who caught him with a head kick and finished him off with punches at UFC Fight Night 87 in May in the Netherlands. After a decision loss to Bartosz Fabinski in his UFC debut, he rebounded with a knockout of Bubba Bush at UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin this past October. But he’ll need a win over Di Chirico to avoid the first losing skid of his career.

Di Chirico made his UFC debut in April at UFC Fight Night 86 in Croatia, but he dropped a unanimous decision to Bojan Velickovic. The setback was the first of his career after starting a perfect 9-0 with eight stoppage victories.

Paige VanZant will fight Bec Rawlings at UFC on FOX 21

Paige VanZant is ready to return to the Octagon.

VanZant will square off against Bec Rawlings at UFC on FOX 21 on Aug. 21 in Vancouver. She made the announcement on SportsCenter on Thursday morning.

"I am so excited about this match-up. I think it's perfect. Especially coming back into the UFC after being away with 'Dancing with the Stars'," said VanZant. "I love Canada... I can't wait for this one."

VanZant (6-2) recently finished second on season 22 of 'Dancing with the Stars'. She hasn't fought since losing to Rose Namajunas at UFC Fight Night 80 on Dec. 20, 2015.

VanZant believed the break helped her.

"The few nagging injuries I had in my two previous UFC fights are completely gone, because I haven't done the impact training, the head-on collisions," VanZant said. "It actually really helped. It was great cardio and kept me in shape... I really miss MMA and the UFC."

Rawlings (7-4) has won her two past fights. She defeated Seo Hee Ham via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 85 on March 20.

UFC on FOX 21 will be held at the Rogers Arena, but still doesn't have a main event.

Enrique Barzola meets Kyle Bochniak at UFC on FOX 21

“The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2” winner Enrique Barzola will make his first trip to the octagon since winning the reality show at UFC Fight Night 78 when he faces Kyle Bochniak in a featherweight bout.

The two men meet at UFC on FOX 21, which takes place Aug. 27 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The event airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Barzola (11-2-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) won “TUF: Latin America 2” with a unanimous decision win over Horacio Gutierrez. He is now riding a two-fight winning streak and has eight stoppages in 11 career victories.

Bochniak (6-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered his first career loss in his most recent bout, a unanimous decision loss to Charles Rosa at UFC Fight Night 81. The bout marked his octagon debut. Prior to the bout, he had a six-fight winning streak with all bouts coming in CES MMA.

The latest UFC on FOX 21 card now includes:

Charles Oliveira vs. Anthony Pettis
Alessio Di Chirico vs. Garreth McLellan
Bec Rawlings vs. Paige VanZant
Enrique Barzola vs. Kyle Bochniak

Thibault Gouti vs. Chad Laprise joins Vancouver's UFC on FOX 21 lineup

The fight card continues to take shape for next month’s UFC on FOX 21 event, this time with a lightweight addition.

Thibault Gouti (11-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) and Chad Laprise (10-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) are slated of the Canadian event, UFC officials recently announced.

UFC on FOX 21 takes place Aug. 27 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The event airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Gouti gets a third – and perhaps last – chance at a first UFC win. The 29-year-old Frenchman went 11-0 with nine stoppages (six submissions) in his first 11 pro bouts to earn a UFC contract. However, he’s since suffered back-to-back submission defeats to Teemu Packalen and Olivier Aubin-Mercier.

He now meets Laprise, who defeated Aubin-Mercier in 2014 to win “The Ultimate Fighter Nations” as a welterweight It was part of a 3-0 run to jumpstart Laprise’s UFC career (and an overall 10-0 start to his pro run), but the 29-year-old Canadian has since suffered back-to-back losses to Francisco Trinaldo (TKO) and Ross Pearson (narrow split decision).

The latest UFC on FOX 21 card now includes:

Charles Oliveira vs. Anthony Pettis
Alessio Di Chirico vs. Garreth McLellan
Bec Rawlings vs. Paige VanZant
Enrique Barzola vs. Kyle Bochniak
Thibault Gouti vs. Chad Laprise

Joe Lauzon rematches Jim Miller at UFC on FOX 21

UFC veterans and onetime opponents Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller will clash once again at UFC on FOX 21.

UFC officials announced the bout on the official UFC website.

UFC on FOX 21 takes place Aug. 27 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The bout order has not been set.

Miller (26-8 MMA, 15-7 UFC) took a unanimous decision over Lauzon (26-11 MMA, 13-8 UFC) when the two first met at UFC 155 in December 2012. The highly entertaining fight won the UFC.com “Fight of the Year” award.

Lauzon is coming off a stunningly dominant win over Diego Sanchez at UFC 200, a TKO stoppage in just 86 seconds. The post-fight bonus magnet is 3-2 in his five most recent bouts.

Miller said he was ready to retire before he said a Lyme disease diagnosis turned his life around. He snapped a two-fight losing skid with a first-round TKO of veteran Takanori Gomi at UFC 200.

With the addition, UFC on FOX 21 includes:
Charles Oliveira vs. Anthony Pettis
Alessio Di Chirico vs. Garreth McLellan
Bec Rawlings vs. Paige VanZant
Enrique Barzola vs. Kyle Bochniak
Thibault Gouti vs. Chad Laprise

The card for UFC on FOX 21 is coming together quickly with the addition of three bouts to go along with the new main event between Carlos Condit and Demian Maia.

The UFC today announced additional bouts for the card via press release.

UFC on FOX 21 takes place Aug. 27 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The bout order has not yet been set.

The three additions to the card include: A middleweight showdown between Sam Alvey (27-8 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and Kevin Casey (9-4-1 MMA, 1-2-1 UFC), Shane Campbell (12-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) against Felipe Silva (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at lightweight and a middleweight bout between Adam Hunter (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Ryan Janes (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Alvey rebounded from a disappointingly uneventful loss to Elias Theodorou at UFC Fight Night 89 with a dominant first-round guillotine choke submission of Eric Spicely at UFC Fight Night 91 less than a month later. The win snapped a two-fight losing skid.

Casey has had one of the more unusual UFC careers. After a loss at the finale show for “The Ultimate Fighter 17,” he earned his way back to the UFC with a three-fight winning streak in RFA. Since his return, he has entered the cage five times with two fights being declared a no contest, a win, a loss and a draw. The draw came against Elvis Mutapcic in his most recent bout at UFC 199.

Campbell is on a two-fight losing skid, losing to James Krause and Erik Koch in his most recent bouts. The undefeated Silva will be making his UFC debut at the event having finished six of his seven professional opponents.

Hunter and Janes will both be making their UFC debuts at the event. Hunter suffered a loss in his pro debut and has not tasted defeat since. Janes is riding his own seven-fight winning streak.

With the additions, the UFC on FOX 21 card includes:
Carlos Condit vs. Demian Maia
Charles Oliveira vs. Anthony Pettis
Bec Rawlings vs. Paige VanZant
Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller
Enrique Barzola vs. Kyle Bochniak
Thibault Gouti vs. Chad Laprise
Sam Alvey vs. Kevin Casey
Shane Campbell vs. Felipe Silva
Adam Hunter vs. Ryan Janes
Alessio Di Chirico vs. Garreth McLellan

Josh Emmett out at UFC on FOX 21; promotion seeks Canadian lightweight replacement

Injury has forced Team Alpha Male lightweight Josh Emmett out of a planned UFC on FOX 21 bout with Jeremy Kennedy.

With just one week until the contest, making it difficult – if not impossible – to secure a work visa in time, the promotion is seeking a Canadian-based replacement opponent.

The 31-year-old Emmett (10-0 MMA 1-0 UFC) had hoped to build on the success of his May promotional debut, when he scored a split-decision victory over Jon Tuck (while suffering a nasty finger injury). The nature of the injury that forced him out of UFC on FOX 21 wasn’t immediately revealed, and a timetable for his return was not established.

Meanwhile, Kennedy (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is a highly touted 23-year-old Canadian prospect who moves up from featherweight for his UFC debut. He fought most recently in May and scored a decision victory over Drew Brokenshire. Kennedy has five stoppages in eight career wins.

With the change to the card, UFC on FOX 21 now includes:

MAIN CARD (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)
Carlos Condit vs. Demian Maia
Charles Oliveira vs. Anthony Pettis
Bec Rawlings vs. Paige VanZant
Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller

PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX, 6 p.m. ET)
Sam Alvey vs. Kevin Casey
Thibault Gouti vs. Chad Laprise
Enrique Barzola vs. Kyle Bochniak
Shane Campbell vs. Felipe Silva

PRELIMINARY CARD (UFC Fight Pass, 4 p.m. ET)
Jeremy Kennedy vs. opponent TBA
Alessio Di Chirico vs. Garreth McLellan

Adam Hunter vs. Ryan Janes

Newcomer Alex Ricci in for Josh Emmett vs. Jeremy Kennedy at UFC on FOX 21

The UFC has found a short-notice replacement to take on Jeremy Kennedy this week in Vancouver.

Canadian promotional newcomer Alex Ricci (10-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will make his UFC debut against Kennedy (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in place of the injured Josh Emmett (10-0 MMA 1-0 UFC). UFC officials announced the booking today after an initial report from MMASucka.com and a follow-up report from Canada’s Sportsnet.

UFC on FOX 21 takes place Saturday at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. It airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. The Ricci-Kennedy fight is expected for the FS1 broadcast.

Ricci has five knockout wins in his 10 career victories. He was booked for an event in Japan later in September, but the UFC call trumped that. He’ll be looking to build on a two-fight winning streak, including an April win over Kieran Joblin.

He takes on Kennedy, a highly touted 23-year-old Canadian prospect who moves up from featherweight. The BFL and CMFC vet most recently fought in May and scored a decision victory over Drew Brokenshire (15-7). He has five stoppages in eight career wins.

Emmett, a 31-year-old Team Alpha Male fighter, made his promotional debut in May and scored a split-decision victory over Jon Tuck (white suffering a nasty finger injury). The five-year pro, who scored a TKO victory over former UFC fighter Christos Giagos before the Tuck win, now has five decisions in 10 career wins. But he’ll have to put the momentum on hold.

The UFC on FOX 21 card now includes:

MAIN CARD (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)
Carlos Condit vs. Demian Maia
Charles Oliveira vs. Anthony Pettis
Bec Rawlings vs. Paige VanZant
Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller

PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX, 6 p.m. ET)
Sam Alvey vs. Kevin Casey
Enrique Barzola vs. Kyle Bochniak
Shane Campbell vs. Felipe Silva
Jeremy Kennedy vs. Alex Ricci

PRELIMINARY CARD (UFC Fight Pass, 4:30 p.m. ET)
Thibault Gouti vs. Chad Laprise
Alessio Di Chirico vs. Garreth McLellan
Adam Hunter vs. Ryan Janes
