Patricio Freire is moving up to lightweight for a Bellator headliner against former UFC champion Benson Henderson.

Freire (25-3 MMA, 13-3 BMMA) and Henderson (23-6 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) will meet at an Aug. 26 event, presumedly Bellator 160, at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., officials confirmed with latimes.com.

According to the report, Bellator 160 will be part of a combat-sports doubleheader; the following night, the same venue hosts a Premier Boxing Champions boxing event headlined by welterweights Robert Guerrero (33-4-1) and David Peralta (25-2-1), which also airs on Spike.

Freire recently rebounded from a 2015 title loss to Daniel Straus, which halted a streak of three consecutive title wins/defenses, with a submission victory over Henry Corrales in April. The 29-year-old Brazilian is now 8-1 with six stoppages over his past nine fights.

Henderson, meanwhile, gets a second shot at his first Bellator win. The former UFC and WEC champion became one of the organization’s prized free-agent acquisitions earlier this year, but he suffered a decision loss to welterweight champ Andrey Koreshkov in his April promotional debut. Prior to that, he earned back-to-back wins over Brandon Thatch and Jorge Masvidal.

Bubba Jenkins vs. Georgi Karakhanyan rematch booked for Bellator 160 in Anaheim

Bellator’s card next month in Southern California has another addition to the lineup – and it’s a rematch.

Bubba Jenkins (11-2 MMA, 8-2 BMMA) is set to meet former WSOF champion Georgi Karakhanyan (24-6-1 MMA, 3-4 BMMA) in a featherweight rematch at Bellator 160. The promotion announced the booking during tonight’s broadcast for Bellator 159.

Bellator 160 takes place Aug. 26 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

In their first meeting at Bellator 132, which took place 18 months ago, Karakhanyan submitted Jenkins with a guillotine choke less than two minutes into the fight.

Jenkins has won three straight fights since he lost to Karakhanyan. He knocked out Joe Wilk in the second round at Bellator 139, then took decisions from Jordan Parsons and Goiti Yamauchi. The latter came in March at Bellator 151.

Karakhanyan has been on a different track since he beat Jenkins. The former WOSF champ has dropped decisions to Daniel Weichel at Bellator 147 this past December and Pat Curran at Bellator 155 in May. Overall, he has dropped three of his past four, including a loss to Rick Glenn at WSOF 10, when he surrendered his title. Prior to that, he had nine straight wins.

Wel redelijk groot gewichtverschil op fight day denk ik. Henderson kan wel een mooie win gebruiken!

Henry Corrales vs. A.J. McKee featherweight bout added to Bellator 160 in Anaheim

Bellator’s card next month in Southern California continues to grow with the addition of a featherweight bout.

A.J. McKee (4-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) is set to take on Henry Corrales (12-3 MMA, 0-3 BMMA) at Bellator 160 in Anaheim, Calif. Promotion officials today announced the new booking, and also confirmed the rematch between Bubba Jenkins (11-2 MMA, 8-2 BMMA) and Georgi Karakhanyan (24-6-1 MMA, 3-4 BMMA) that was announced during Friday’s broadcast for Bellator 159.

Bellator 160 takes place Aug. 26 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

McKee has been perfect in his pro career with all of his fights so far under the Bellator banner. Perfect starts are one thing, but McKee also has been perfect with four stoppages – all in the first round. His first year as a pro in 2015 including a submission of Marcos Bonilla and knockouts of James Barnes and J.T. Donaldson. And earlier this year at Bellator 152, he took out Danilo Belluardo just past the midway point of the first with a TKO.

Corrales started his career a perfect 12-0 with 10 stoppages. But when he joined Bellator’s ranks, things got a little tough. He was submitted by Daniel Straus at Bellator 138 in June 2915, then dropped a split decision to Emmanuel Sanchez at Bellator 143 later that year. In April, he was submitted by Freire at Bellator 153. Now he’ll look to get off the schneid against the unbeaten McKee.

With the addition, Bellator 160 now includes:
Patricio Freire vs. Benson Henderson
Henry Corrales vs. A.J. McKee
Bubba Jenkins vs. Georgi Karakhanyan

Kevin Ferguson Jr., son of the late 'Kimbo Slice,' will fight at Bellator 160

A new generation of “Slice” is ready to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Kevin Ferguson Jr. (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), the oldest son of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, is set to make his pro MMA debut next month at Bellator 160, according to a report from The Associated Press. Bellator officials have not yet announced Ferguson’s inclusion on the card, and his opponent is not yet known.

Bellator 160 takes place Aug. 26 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.

Ferguson Jr. made his amateur MMA debut in March and picked up an 83-second TKO win at a Warrior Nation event in Massachusetts.

“I was always around the fight business and everything, so I saw it and I understood what was going on,” Ferguson told The Associated Press. “I just knew without a doubt that one day, this was what I wanted to do.”

Most recently, Ferguson has been training with Antonio McKee and fellow Bellator fighters A.J. McKee and Bubba Jenkins in Southern Calfiornia.

“Kimbo Slice” died in early June. He was admitted to the hospital with severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath and nausea. Doctors found a liver mass and congestive heart failure, advising his family a heart transplant was necessary. He was placed on a ventilator in intensive care, but died June 6. He was 42.

He had been scheduled to headline Bellator 158 earlier this month in London against James Thompson.

The former EliteXC and UFC fighter signed with Bellator in 2015 and knocked out Ken Shamrock. In February, he beat rival Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris by TKO with 2.7 million viewers watching on Spike. But the bout’s result was overturned when he tested positive for a steroid and an elevated T/E ratio. He settled with the overseeing Texas Athletic Commission, and was given a 90-day suspension and $2,500 fine.

The fight would turn out to be his last.

Bellator 160 now includes:

Patricio Freire vs. Benson Henderson
Henry Corrales vs. A.J. McKee
Bubba Jenkins vs. Georgi Karakhanyan
Kevin Ferguson Jr. vs. TBA

Kimbo Slice's son, 'Baby Slice,' meets undefeated Johnny Tomasian in pro debut at Bellator 160

Kevin Ferguson Jr., the son of legendary streetfighter Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, will make his professional MMA debut against fellow undefeated amateur Johnny Tomasian.

Featuring a lightweight headliner between former UFC champion Benson Henderson and former Bellator featherweight champ Patricio “Pitbull” Freire, Bellator 160 takes place Aug. 26 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.

Ferguson Jr. (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), 24 – also known as “Baby Slice” – made his amateur MMA debut earlier this year, downing opponent Tom Brink in just 83 seconds at an event held in Massachusetts. He fights as a professional for the first time.

Tomasian (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) competed twice in the amateur ranks in California and earned victories in both contests, one by unanimous decision and one by TKO.

“Kimbo Slice” died unexpectedly in June, days after he was diagnosed with a liver mass and congestive heart failure. One of the world’s best known and most popular fighters, he was 42 at the time of his death.

A former street fighter and porn set security guard, Ferguson was already 33 by the time he launched his professional MMA career, and his skills never quite matched his renowned drawing power. Despite an intimidating and larger-than-life persona that made his fights an easy sell, the usually soft-spoken father of six was a favorite among promoters, media members, fellow fighters and other industry insiders during a career that saw him compete under the UFC, Bellator and Elite XC banners.

The latest Bellator 160 card includes:

Patricio Freire vs. Benson Henderson
Henry Corrales vs. A.J. McKee
Bubba Jenkins vs. Georgi Karakhanyan
Derek Anderson vs. Saad Awad
Kevin Ferguson Jr. vs. Johnny Tomasian
Joey Davis vs. TBA

Injury forces 'Baby Slice' out of Bellator 160, lineup finalized with 12 fights

The professional debut of Kevin Ferguson Jr., perhaps better known as “Baby Slice,” will not take place at this week’s Bellator 160 event.

Ferguson Jr. (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) revealed on Facebook that an injury forced him out of a scheduled appearance.

“My role in the Team Body Shop Bellator takeover hit a bit of a snag over the weekend while training, and I’m sad to say that my Bellator debut will have to wait a little longer,” Ferguson Jr. wrote. “I won’t need any surgery though, and that’s bad news for every single mother f—-r on the roster.

“All of the fan support in the lead up to this fight has been overwhelming & I can’t wait to add a new chapter to the Ferguson/Slice fighting rep. I’ll still be at the event holding it down for my teammates AJ McKee and Joey Davis. Best believe I’ll be knocking heads out sooner than later.”

Ferguson Jr. is the oldest son of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, the legendary streetfighter turned mixed martial artist who in June died unexpectedly at 42.

With the change to the lineup, Bellator 160 now includes:

MAIN CARD
Benson Henderson vs. Patricio Freire
Derek Anderson vs. Saad Awad
Bubba Jenkins vs. Georgi Karakhanyan
A.J. McKee vs. Cody Walker

PRELIMINARY

Ron Henderson vs. Steve Ramirez
Gabriel Green vs. Alex Trinidad
Johnny Cisneros vs. Andy Murad
Joey Davis vs. Keith Cutrone
Stephen Martinez vs. Jake Roberts
