The UFC’s Mexico City “Fight Night” card will take place Nov. 5. at Mexico City Arenaand also is expected to feature the finale of the latest edition of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America.” In the main event, Tony Ferguson takes on former lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos.

Marcin Held-Diego Sanchez, Kelvin Gastelum-Jorge Masvidal teed up for UFC Fight Night 98

The UFC’s return to Mexico in November continues to build, and now it will include the promotional debut of a highly regarded lightweight.

Former Bellator standout Marcin Held (22-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will take on “TUF 1” winner and former title challenger Diego Sanchez (26-9 MMA, 15-9 UFC) at lightweight at UFC Fight Night 98. Plus, “TUF 17” winner Kelvin Gastelum (12-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) is set to meet Jorge Masvidal (30-11 MMA, 7-4 UFC) on the card. UFC officials announced the two bookings today.

UFC Fight Night 98, which also serves as the live finale for “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3,” takes place Nov. 5 at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. It airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Held is just one fight removed from challenging for Bellator’s lightweight title, which then was held by Will Brooks. Brooks vacated the belt earlier this year and signed with the UFC. After six straight wins and a run of 11 wins in 12 fights, Held got his shot at Brooks, but lost a unanimous decision at Bellator 145 in St. Louis this past November. He got back in the win column in May at Bellator 155 with a win over Dave Jansen, avenging a loss from more than three years prior in the Bellator Season 7 lightweight tournament final.

After a move to featherweight and a loss to Ricardo Lamas in November 2015, Sanchez moved bcak to lightweight earlier this year and took a unanimous decision from Jim Miller at UFC 196. But at UFC 200 in July, he was knocked out by Joe Lauzon in just 86 seconds, giving him four losses in his past six fights.

Gastelum has alteranted wins and losses his past five fights after starting his career 10-0. But in Mexico City, he’ll be returning to the site of arguably his two most impressive wins in the UFC. At UFC 180 in 2014, he had a bonus-winning submission of Jake Ellenberger in the first round. And at UFC 188, he got a TKO win over Nate Marquardt in a middleweight bout. After a split-decision loss to Neil Magny in November 2015, Gastelum dominated former champ Johny Hendricks for a unanimous decision at UFC 200 in July to get back on the winning track.

Masvidal in July snapped a two-fight skid when he outpointed Ross Pearson at UFC 201 in Atlanta. Prior to that, he had suffered back-to-back split-decision losses to Benson Henderson and Lorenz Larkin, which had given him three losses in four fights – all by split decision. Masvidal hasn’t been finished in a fight since Bellator 5 in May 2009.

With the additions, the latest UFC Fight Night 98 card includes:

Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tony Ferguson
Beneil Dariush vs. Rashid Magomedov
Heather Jo Clark vs. Alexa Grasso
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Jorge Masvidal
Marcin Held vs. Diego Sanchez
TBA vs. TBA – “TUF 3: Latin America” lightweight tournament final

Erik Perez vs. Felipe Arantes slated for UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico City

A bantamweight bout is the latest addition to November’s UFC Fight Night 98 event in Mexico City.

Mexican fighter Erik Perez (16-6 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and Brazil’s Felipe Arantes (18-7-1 MMA, 5-3-1 UFC) will clash at the fall event.

UFC officials recently announced the bout via laaficion.com.

UFC Fight Night 98, which also serves as the live finale for “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3,” takes place Nov. 5 at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. It airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Perez recently scored a unanimous-decision victory over Francisco Rivera in July for his second straight win and his third victory in four fights. The 26-year-old, whose two UFC losses have come to divisional standouts Bryan Caraway and Takeya Mizugaki, posted finishes in his first three UFC wins but has settled for decisions in his most recent three.

One of the UFC’s most prominent Mexican fighters now meets Arantes, a 28-year-old who’s also 2-1 over his past three fights. After moving down to bantamweight and scoring a “Performance of the Night” bonus in his win over Yves Jabouin, he scored his second straight submission win after tapping Jerrod Sanders in July.

•Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tony Ferguson
•Beneil Dariush vs. Rashid Magomedov

Marco Beltran vs. Guido Cannetti rematch added to UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico City

A bantamweight rematch between Marco Beltran (8-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and Guido Cannetti (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is set for UFC Fight Night 98.

UFC officials recently announced the bout.

Beltran and Cannetti first fought in the opening round of the tournament on “TUF: Latin America 1” in 2014. Cannetti connected on an illegal kick to the head, which cost him a point and, eventually, the fight via majority decision.

Both fighters finished in the semifinal round of the tournament (after the loss to Beltran, Cannetti eventually got a second chance as an injury replacement).

Since launching his official UFC run, Beltran has won three consecutive fights. The 30-year-old Mexican fighter has picked up decision wins over Marlon Vera and Ning Guangyou, as well as a recent submission victory over Reginaldo Vieira.

Cannetti, meanwhile, is looking for his second straight win. After a submission loss to Henry Briones in his official UFC debut (and earning “Fight of the Night” honors), the 36-year-old Argentine fighter rebounded with a unanimous-decision victory over Hugo Viana.

The latest UFC Fight Night 98 card now includes:

Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tony Ferguson
Beneil Dariush vs. Rashid Magomedov
Heather Jo Clark vs. Alexa Grasso

Erick Montano gets quick turnaround, meets Max Griffin at UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico

November’s UFC Fight Night 98 lineup has a new welterweight addition to the card.

UFC officials today announced a fight between Mexico’s Erick Montano (7-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Max Griffin (12-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) for UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico City.

Montano, a Mexico City native, made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 78 in Monterrey, Mexico, this past November. There, he took a split decision from Enrique Marin to run his winning streak to three fights. But less than two weeks ago at UFC Fight Night 94 in Hidalgo, Texas, he was stunned just 18 seconds into the third round and was forced to tap to a Randy Brown guillotine choke.

Griffin will be looking to rebound, as well, after a third-round TKO loss to Colby Covington in his promotional debut at UFC 202 in August in Las Vegas. Prior to that, the Californian was on a run that saw him win eight of nine fights starting in 2013.

The latest UFC Fight Night 98 card now includes:

Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tony Ferguson
Beneil Dariush vs. Rashid Magomedov
Heather Jo Clark vs. Alexa Grasso
Marcin Held vs. Diego Sanchez
Felipe Arantes vs. Erik Perez

Sam Alvey vs. Alex Nicholson moves to UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico

A bout between Sam Alvey and Alex Nicholson has a new date.

Originally scheduled for the recently canceled UFC Fight Night 97 event, middleweights Alvey (28-8 MMA, 5-3 UFC) and Nicholson (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) instead will fight at UFC Fight Night 98.

Officials recently announced the rescheduled bout.

Alvey, who sat out the better part of a year due to a broken jaw, returned in June and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Elias Theodorou. However, the 30-year-old, who joined the UFC after a stint on “TUF 16,” now looks for his third straight win after rebounding with stoppage wins over Eric Spicely and Kevin Casey. He fights for the fourth time in five months.

He meets Nicholson, a 26-year-old who’s on a 6-1 run. After a UFC-debut loss to Misha Cirkunov in February, he rebounded in July with a knockout win over Devin Clark. However, he’s likely on a short leash following “derogatory” comments he made about Hyun Gyu Lim.

The latest UFC Fight Night 98 lineup now includes:
Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tony Ferguson
Marcin Held vs. Diego Sanchez
Beneil Dariush vs. Rashid Magomedov
Max Griffin vs. Erick Montano
Heather Jo Clark vs. Alexa Grasso
Felipe Arantes vs. Erik Perez
Marco Beltran vs. Guido Cannetti
Henry Briones vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade

Ricardo Lamas vs. Charles Oliveira slated for UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico

Ricardo Lamas won’t be on the shelf for long after a fight with UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn was canceled.

UFC officials on Wednesday announced that Lamas (16-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC), a onetime UFC featherweight title challenger, is set to fight Charles Oliveira (21-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 98. FloCombat.com first reported the bout.

UFC Fight Night 98, which serves as the finale for “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3,” takes place Nov. 5 at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City, Mexico. The main card airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Lamas, the No. 6 fighter in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA featherweight rankings, was scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 97 opposite Penn (16-10-2 MMA, 12-9-2 UFC) on Saturday in Pasay, Manila, Philippines. But Penn suffered an injury that forced him to withdraw from the event, and rather than book a replacement opponent, the promotion opted to cancel the entire affair.

On Tuesday, top-ranked bantamweight Bryan Caraway (21-7 MMA, 6-2 UFC) revealed he had volunteered to save the event, but the decision to cancel had already been made. A subsequent proposal to book him opposite Lamas at UFC Fight Night 98 also failed when negotiations between Caraway’s rep and the promotion broke down.

Lamas now meets No. 11-ranked Oliveira and hopes to rebound from a decision loss to the surging Max Holloway in May at UFC 199. He is 3-2 in the octagon since a failed bid for the title against now-former champ Jose Aldo at UFC 169.

Oliveira also needs redemption after a third-round submission loss to former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis in August at UFC on FOX 21. He’s 1-2 in his past three outings.

The latest UFC Fight Night 98 card now includes:
Rafael dos Anjos vs. Tony Ferguson
Marcin Held vs. Diego Sanchez
Ricardo Lamas vs. Charles Oliveira
Beneil Dariush vs. Rashid Magomedov
Max Griffin vs. Erick Montano
Heather Jo Clark vs. Alexa Grasso
Felipe Arantes vs. Erik Perez
Marco Beltran vs. Guido Cannetti
Henry Briones vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade

Guido Cannetti pulled from UFC Fight Night 98 following potential anti-doping violation

Argentinian bantamweight Guido Cannetti has been pulled from next week’s UFC Fight Night 98 event following a flagged out-of-competition test issued by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

Cannetti took to Instagram to announce his removal from the card, and MMAjunkie subsequently confirmed the potential violation with UFC officials.

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has informed Guido Cannetti of a potential anti-doping violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on Oct. 5, 2016,” a statement read. “USADA has provisionally suspended Cannetti based on the potential anti-doping violation.”

“Ninja” Cannetti (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) was expected to face Marco Beltran (8-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) on the FS1-televised prelims of UFC Fight Night 98, which takes place Nov. 5 at Mexico City Arena. UFC officials are “currently exploring whether a replacement to fight Beltran can be arranged.”

In the promotion’s typical statement, UFC officials issued a reminder that Cannetti is guaranteed a full legal review.

“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case,” the statement reads. “It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full, fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information or UFC statements will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”
