A flyweight contest between a pair of onetime UFC title challengers has been added to UFC Fight 97.

UFC official recently announced that Russia’s Ali Bagautinov (14-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) will face Japan’s Kyoji Horiguchi (17-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) at the event.

UFC Fight Night 97 takes place Oct. 15 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Manila, Philippines. The entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass.

Horiguchi currently sits at No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings. Bagautinov checks in at No. 6.

Bagautinov fought for the belt at UFC 174 in June 2014, losing a decision to Demetrious Johnson. Afterward, he tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance erythropoietin (EPO) and was suspended for a full year. He came up short in his October 2015 return against Joseph Benavidez but most recently rebounded with a UFC Fight Night 89 decision win over Geane Herrera.

Meanwhile, Horiguchi was submitted by champ Johnson with one second remaining in their UFC 186 fight in April 2015. He’s since bounced back with victories over Neil Seery and Chico Camus and is now 11-1 in his past 12 contests.

With the addition, UFC Fight Night 97 currently includes:

Ricardo Lamas vs. B.J. Penn
Derrick Lewis vs. Marcin Tybura
Ali Bagautinov vs. Kyoji Horiguchi

UFC Fight Night 97 in Philippines adds two bouts, including Cole Miller vs. Mizuto Hirota

October’s UFC Fight Night 97 event in the Philippines has two new additions.

Officials recently announced the bouts: featherweights Cole Miller (21-10 MMA, 10-8 UFC) vs. Mizuto Hirota (17-7-2 MMA, 0-1-2 UFC) and strawweights Seo Hee Ham (16-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Danielle Taylor (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

UFC Fight Night 97 takes place Oct. 15 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Manila, Philippines. The entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass.

Miller is winless in his past three fights and looks for his first victory since submitting Sam Sicilia in January 2014. The 32-year-old, who’s picked up four “Submission of the Night” bonuses in his nine-year UFC run, has decision losses to Max Holloway and Alex Caceres, as well as a no-contest (accidental eye-poke) with Jim Alers, in his most recent bouts.

He now meets Hirota, a 35-year-old Japanese fighter who gets a fourth opportunity to post his first UFC win. He went 0-2 in his first UFC stint, won three bouts with DEEP, and then returned to the organization in September and fought Teruto Ishihara to a split draw in the tournament final of the “Road to UFC: Japan” reality show at UFC Fight Night 75.

Meanwhile, Ham, a 29-year-old Korean fighter, posted a six-fight winning streak to earn a UFC contract in 2014. The former Jewels champion moved up a weight class and suffered a decision loss to Joanne Calderwood in her UFC debut, rebounded for a decision win over Cortney Casey, and then suffered a decision loss to Bec Rawlings in her most recent appearance.

She meets Taylor, a recent UFC debutant who, despite being a sizable underdog, put up a valiant effort against Maryna Moroz at UFC Fight Night 92. She settled for a split-decision defeat, which snapped the 26-year-old KOTC vet’s two-fight winning streak.

The latest UFC Fight Night 97 card now includes:

Ricardo Lamas vs. B.J. Penn
Derrick Lewis vs. Marcin Tybura
Ali Bagautinov vs. Kyoji Horiguchi
Mizuto Hirota vs. Cole Miller
Seo Hee Ham vs. Danielle Taylor

UFC Fight Night 97 adds 2 bouts, including James Moontasri vs. Alex Morono

Next month’s UFC Fight Night 97 event has two new additions to the fight card.

They include welterweights James Moontasri (9-4 MMA, 2-3 UFC) vs. Alex Morono (12-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and middleweights Dongi Yang (13-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) vs. Ryan Janes (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Officials recently announced the bout.

UFC Fight Night 97 takes place Oct. 15 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Manila, Philippines, and it streams on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Moontasri, a former RFA fighter, has alternated wins and losses since joining the UFC in 2014 as a lightweight. Since moving up to welterweight, the 28-year-old has earned a spinning-backfist/kick TKO win over Anton Zafir and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Alex Oliveira.

His opponent, Morono, is a former Legacy FC champion who graduated from the regional powerhouse to the UFC earlier this year. In January, the 26-year-old made his UFC debut on a week’s notice and upset veteran Kyle Noke via split decision.

After 1-3 run in his first UFC stint, Yang picked up a pair of TKO wins with the South Korea-based Top FC promotion and then returned to the UFC, where he picked up another TKO win after stopping Jake Collier in the second round at UFC Fight Night 79.

Janes, meanwhile, is an AFC and BFL vet who makes his UFC debut on the strength of a seven-fight winning streak that includes six submissions. The 35-year-old Canadian hasn’t fought since a July 2015 win over Brendan Kornberger (6-3) after a UFC on FOX 21 bout with Adam Hunter this past weekend was canceled last minute.

Ricardo Lamas vs. B.J. Penn
Derrick Lewis vs. Marcin Tybura
Ali Bagautinov vs. Kyoji Horiguchi

UFC Fight Night 97 adds 2 bouts, with Sam Alvey's fourth fight in 4 months

Next month’s UFC Fight Night 97 lineup has two new additions, and one will result in Sam Alvey’s fourth fight in four months.

Alvey (28-8 MMA, 5-3 UFC) meets fellow middleweight Alex Nicholson (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC). Officials also announced flyweights Yao Zhikui (2-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Jenel Lausa (6-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

UFC Fight Night 97 takes place Oct. 15 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Manila, Philippines, and it streams on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Alvey, who sat out the better part of a year due to a broken jaw, returned in June and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Elias Theodorou. However, the 30-year-old, who joined the UFC after a stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 16,” now looks for his third straight win after rebounding with stoppage wins over Eric Spicely and Kevin Casey.

He meets Nicholson, a 26-year-old who’s on a 6-1 run. After a UFC-debut loss to Misha Cirkunov in February, he rebounded in July with a knockout win over Devin Clark. However, he’s likely on a short leash following “derogatory” comments he made about Hyun Gyu Lim.

Meanwhile, Zhikui was a semifinalist on “The Ultimate Fighter: China” who’s 1-2 since joining the UFC. He suffered a split-decision defeat to Royston Wee in his promotional debut before rebounding with a split-decision win over Nolan Ticman. However, in his most recent bout, the 25-year-old Chinese fighter suffered a TKO loss (due to an arm injury) to Fredy Serrano in just 44 seconds.

He now meets Lausa, a 28-year-old Filipino fighter who’s the reigning flyweight champion of the PXC organization. He’s currently riding a four-fight winning streak and most recently earned a split-decision victory over Crisanto Pitpitunge (8-5).

The latest UFC Fight Night 97 card includes:
Ricardo Lamas vs. B.J. Penn
Derrick Lewis vs. Marcin Tybura
Ali Bagautinov vs. Kyoji Horiguchi
Mizuto Hirota vs. Cole Miller
Seo Hee Ham vs. Danielle Taylor
Mehdi Baghdad vs. Jon Tuck
James Moontasri vs. Alex Morono
Ryan Janes vs. Dongi Yang
Damir Hadzovic vs. Yukawa Kazuya
Sam Alvey vs. Alex Nicholson
Jenel Lausa vs. Yao Zhikui
