Dong Hyun Kim vs. Gunnar Nelson headlines UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast, Northern Ireland

The UFC’s return to Northern Ireland this fall has its main event.

The UFC Fight Night 99 headliner will be a welterweight bout between Dong Hyun Kim (21-3-1 MMA, 12-3 UFC) and Gunnar Nelson (15-2-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC), UFC officials today announced. No other bookings were announced for the card, and Kim-Nelson is the first fight announced for the event so far.

UFC Fight Night 99 takes place Nov. 19 at SSE Arena in Belfast. Broadcast plans have not yet been announced. It is the first of two fight cards on the same day for the UFC. UFC Fight Night 100 takes place later in the day in Brazil.

Kim has won back-to-back fights and six of his past seven overall. The South Korean has yet to fight in 2016, however. At UFC 187 in May 2015, Kim submitted Josh Burkman with an arm-triangle choke. He followed that up with his first fight in his home country in more than 11 years and didn’t disappoint with a first-round TKO of Dominic Waters.

Prior to that, “Stun Gun” had a four-fight winning streak snapped by a Tyron Woodley 61-second TKO in Macau in August 2014. The loss snapped a run that included bonus-winning knockouts of Erick Silva and John Hathaway.

Kim has been one of the most successful welterweights in UFC history. His only losses have come to eventual champions or title challengers: Woodley, the current welterweight champ; Demian Maia, a former middleweight challenger and potential upcoming welterweight challenger; and Carlos Condit, a former interim welterweight titleholder and recent title challenger.

Nelson, from Iceland, is a frequent training partner of featherweight champion Conor McGregor. After starting his career unbeaten at 13-0-1, including a perfect 4-0 start in the UFC with three submission wins, he has alternated wins and losses for his past four fights.

His unbeaten run was halted by a split-decision loss to Rick Story nearly two years ago in Sweden. He rebounded with a first-round submission of Brandon Thatch at UFC 189 in July 2015, but stumbled with a decision loss to Maia at UFC 194 this past December. But again, he bounced back with a bonus-winning submission of Albert Tumenov at UFC Fight Night 87 in the Netherlands in May. Five of his six UFC wins have been by submission.

More fights for UFC Fight Night 99 are expected to be announced soon. Tickets go on sale later this month.

Amanda Cooper vs. Anna Elmose added to UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast

November’s UFC Fight Night 99 event in North Ireland has its second fight.

Officials today announced a strawweight bout between Amanda Cooper (1-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Anna Elmose (3-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

UFC Fight Night 99 takes place Nov. 19 at SSE Arena in Belfast, and the entire card streams on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

It’s the first of two cards on Nov. 19; UFC Fight Night 100 takes place later in the day in Brazil.

Cooper appeared on “The Ultimate Fighter 23” earlier this year and advanced to the tournament final with a decision win over Jamie Moyle and a submission victory over Lanchana Green. However, the 24-year-old former Invicta FC fighter then suffered a submission loss to Tatiana Suarez in the “TUF 23” tourney final, which also served as her official UFC debut, and finished as the runner-up for the reason.

She now meets Elmose, who won her first three pro bouts via knockout. She then made her UFC debut in May and suffered a knockout loss to bantamweight Germaine de Randamie. The 31-year-old Danish fighter now drops down to 115 pounds for her second UFC bout.

Ian McCall vs. Neil Seery announced for UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast

November’s UFC Fight Night 99 fight card in North Ireland has a new flyweight addition.

Officials today announced Ian McCall (13-5-1 MMA, 2-3-1 UFC) and Neil Seery (16-12 MMA, 3-3 UFC) are set to fight at the event.

McCall is No. 8 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings; Seery isn’t in the top 15.

McCall fights for the first time since January 2015, though he was slated to compete at UFC 203 earlier this month before opponent Ray Borg fell ill on fight week. A couple months earlier, would-be UFC 201 opponent Justin Scoggins was also a late scratch after failing to make weight. McCall, a 32-year-old former title challenger, suffered a decision loss to John Lineker in his most recent bout. Prior to that, he earned back-to-back decision wins over Iliarde Santos and Brad Pickett.

Seery, meanwhile, is a 37-year-old Irish fighter who was recently on a 3-1 run, which included a “Performance of the Night” win over Jon Delos Reyes. However, in his most recent appearance, he suffered a decision loss to Kyoji Horiguchi in May.

The latest UFC Fight Night 99 card now includes:
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Gunnar Nelson

Ross Pearson vs. James Krause slated for UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast

Northern Ireland’s UFC Fight Night 99 fight card has another addition.

Officials today announced a lightweight matchup between Ross Pearson (19-12 MMA, 11-9 UFC) and James Krause (23-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC).

Pearson, a 31-year-old English fighter, desperately needs a win. He’s lost two straight and three of his past four, and the lone victory in that stretch came via hotly contested split decision to Chad Laprise. Most recently, Pearson took just 22 days between fights, temporarily moved up to welterweight and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 201.

Krause, meanwhile, made a big splash in the UFC with a promotional-debut win over Sam Stout that earned “Fight of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” honors. The 30-year-old Titan FC and RFA vet then suffered a 1-3 skid before recently rebounding with back-to-back wins over Daron Cruickshank (submission) and Shame Campbell (decision).

The latest UFC Fight Night 99 card now includes:
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Gunnar Nelson

Ex-Bellator champ Alexander Volkov debuts with promotion vs. Timothy Johnson at UFC Fight Night 99

The UFC has another new heavyweight in its ranks – and he’s a former Bellator champion.

Alexander Volkov (26-6 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has signed with the UFC, a promotion official today confirmed to MMAjunkie, and will meet Timothy Johnson (10-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 99 in November in Northern Ireland.

Fighting exclusively in Russia and the Ukraine through the first 19 fights of his pro career, Volkov signed with Bellator in 2012 and ran the table in the promotion’s Season 7 heavyweight tournament to become its first heavyweight champ. He took a decision from Brett Rogers at Bellator 75 in the quarterfinals, knocked out Vinicius Queiroz at Bellator 80 in the semifinals and took a unanimous decision from Richard Hale at Bellator 84 in December 2012 to win the belt.

But in his first defense, 11 months later at Bellator 108, he was stopped by Vitaly Minakov with a first-round TKO and surrendered his belt. He bounced back by winning the Season 10 heavyweight tournament, which should have earned him a title shot against Minakov. But Cheick Kongo was ahead of him in line, and lost to the champ at Bellator 115. Volkov never got another crack at Minakov – who was stripped of his title after not defending it for two years, but fighting elsewhere.

Volkov dropped a split decision to Tony Johnson at Bellator 136 in April 2015, then lost a decision to Kongo at Bellator 139 and subsequently was released from the promotion. But he bounced back this year with a submission win over Denis Smoldarev at M-1 Challenge 64 to win that promotion’s heavyweight title, then in June knocked out Attila Vegh to defend it.

Johnson made his UFC debut in April 2015 with a first-round TKO win over Shamil Abdurakhimov in Virginia. But his next trip to the octagon, at UFC Fight Night 74 in Nashville, was a decision loss to Jared Rosholt. But the Minnesota-born North Dakotan bounced back in April with a unanimous decision win over Marcin Tybura in Croatia, giving him nine wins in his past 10 fights – with eight by stoppage.

With the addition, the latest UFC Fight Night 99 card now includes:
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Gunnar Nelson
Ian McCall vs. Neil Seery
James Krause vs. Ross Pearson
Amanda Cooper vs. Anna Elmose
Mark Godbeer vs. Justin Ledet
Timothy Johnson vs. Alexander Volkov

Milana Dudieva vs. Marion Reneau on tap for UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast

Next month’s UFC Fight Night 99 event has a new female fight for the lineup.

The bout pits Milana Dudieva (11-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) against Marion Reneau (6-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) in a women’s bantamweight matchup.

UFC officials today announced the fight.

Dudieva, a 27-year-old Ossetian born-Russian fighter, made her UFC debut in 2014 and earned a split-decision victory over Elizabeth Phillips to push her overall winning streak to three fights. However, in her lone 2015 appearance, she suffered a TKO loss to Julianna Pena and then took time off for a pregnancy. She now fights for the first time in 2016.

Reneau, meanwhile, is likely in a must-win situation. She made her UFC debut in 2015 and defeated Alexis Dufresne and Jessica Andrade (earning a “Performance of the Night” bonus) to run her overall running streak to five fights. However, in her two most recent appearance, the 39-year-old has suffered decision losses to ex-champ Holly Holm and Ashlee Evans-Smith.

The latest UFC Fight Night 99 card now includes:
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Gunnar Nelson
Amanda Cooper vs. Anna Elmose
Ian McCall vs. Neil Seery

Ali Bagautinov vs. Kyoji Horiguchi rebooked for UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast

A key flyweight matchup between former UFC title challengers has been booked for UFC Fight Night 99.

MMAjunkie today confirmed with UFC officials that Russia’s Ali Bagautinov (14-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) will face Japan’s Kyoji Horiguchi (17-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) at the event.

The contest was first set to take place at UFC Fight 97 in the Philippines but had to be moved after that card was scrapped. SportsJOE.ie first reported the new date for the contest, and UFC officials are expected to make a formal announcement soon.

Horiguchi is currently ranked No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings. Bagautinov is No. 6.

Bagautinov fought for the belt at UFC 174 in June 2014, losing a decision to Demetrious Johnson. Afterward, he tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance erythropoietin (EPO) and was suspended for a full year. He came up short in his October 2015 return against Joseph Benavidez but most recently rebounded with a UFC Fight Night 89 decision win over Geane Herrera.

Meanwhile, Horiguchi was submitted by champ Johnson with one second remaining in their UFC 186 fight in April 2015. He’s since bounced back with victories over Neil Seery and Chico Camus and is now 11-1 in his past 12 contests.

With the addition to the card, UFC Fight Night 99 now includes:
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Gunnar Nelson
Amanda Cooper vs. Anna Elmose

Gegard Mousasi vs. Uriah Hall 2 to main event UFC Belfast with Gunnar Nelson out

The UFC's return to Northern Ireland is getting a significant reshuffling.

Gunnar Nelson is injured and out of his main event with Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night 99 on Nov. 19 in Belfast, sources told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. In that fight's place will be a new headliner: a rematch between Gegard Mousasi and Uriah Hall.

The extent of Nelson's injury is unclear at this time. The change has not yet been officially announced by the UFC.

Mousasi (40-6-2) is coming off a second-round TKO of Vitor Belfort at UFC 204 earlier this month. The Dutchman has won three straight and his lone loss since 2014 came against Hall in September 2015 via spinning kick-flying knee TKO. Mousasi, 31, is one of the best middleweights in the world, but is taking a break from trying to move up in the rankings to avenge the loss.

Hall (12-7) has lost two straight, most recently a first-round TKO defeat against Derek Brunson last month. The New York native has not won since beating Mousasi last year. Hall, 32, is an alum of The Ultimate Fighter 17 and had won five of six before this current skid.

UFC Fight Night 99 does not have an official co-main event. On the card, Ian McCall will meet Neil Seery and James Krause takes on Ross Pearson.

James Krause injured, out of UFC Fight Night 99 co-main event vs. Ross Pearson

For the second time, James Krause has suffered an injury and been forced out of a planned UFC Fight Night 99 co-main event showdown with Ross Pearson.

Krause (23-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC) posted a photo of himself on crutches on Instagram, announcing he suffered a “high-grade” hamstring tear during training. In the message, the 30-year-old American also offered an apology to Pearson (19-12 MMA, 11-9 UFC).

“It’s with great disappointment and frustration that I make this post announcing that I’m forced to withdraw from my #UFCBelfast bout with Ross Pearson… again,” the post reads. “Monday morning during wrestling practice I tore my hamstring for what the doctor says is a “high grade”, substantial tear in 3 different spots to my hamstring.

“This is 2 camps in a row, and against Ross that I’ve had to withdraw from so my greatest apologies to him. This is not my norm and I pride myself on fighting any opposition that’s been offered to me. That being said during these training camps I’ve made a lot of progress and am very excited to show my improvements whoever and whenever that time comes.”

Krause is riding a two-fight winning streak, picking up wins over Daron Cruickshank and Shame Campbell. Those wins came on the heels of a two-fight losing skid.

Pearson has lost two straight and three of his past four. The lone victory in that stretch came via hotly contested split decision to Chad Laprise. Most recently, Pearson took just 22 days between fights, temporarily moved up to welterweight and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 201.

The UFC has not officially announced if Pearson will remain on the card following Krause’s injury.
