Luke Rockhold and 'Jacare' Souza set to rematch at UFC Fight Night 101

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event will air on FS1. The bout between Rockhold and Souza is the first to be announced for the card.

Rockhold (15-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC), will make his first return to the octagon since losing the title by shocking knockout to late-notice replacement Michael Bisping at UFC 199 in June. Prior to the defeat, he had rattled off five consecutive victories, culminating in a dominant championship-winning performance against Chris Weidman at UFC 194.

“Jacare” Souza (23-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC), lost to Rockhold in a September 2011 Strikeforce bout. He followed that up with an eight-fight winning streak. After dropping a close decision to Yoel Romero at UFC 194, he rebounded with a first-round TKO of Vitor Belfort at UFC 198.

Toffe partij dit. Zou dit de #1 contender partij zijn? Of krijgt Weidman de kans als hij van romero mocht winnen?

Whittaker, Matthews and Kelly targeted for UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia

Three local products are targeted for fights at UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia.

During media events today ahead of the November event, officials announced Australian fighters Robert Whittaker (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC), lightweight Jake Matthews (10-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and middleweight Daniel Kelly as likely card participants, though opponents haven’t been determined.

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following earlier prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Whittaker, who’s No. 12 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, is riding a five-fight winning streak following recent wins over the likes of Rafael Natal, Uriah Hall and Brad Tavares. Whittaker, 25, won “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes” in 2012 as a welterweight.

Matthews, a 22-year-old, won 10 of his first 11 fights – including four of his first five UFC bouts – before suffering a TKO loss to Kevin Lee in July. A fight prior, he submitted Johnny Case and picked up a “Fight of the Night” award.

Kelly, a 38-year-old middleweight, joined the UFC in 2013 after appearing on “TUF Nations: Canada vs. Australia.” He recently rebounded from his first career loss – via TKO to Sam Alvey in 2015 – with back-to-back wins over Steven Montgomery and Antonio Carlos Junior. UFC Fight Night 101 marks his fourth straight fight in Australia.

Derek Brunson vs. Robert Whittaker slated for UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia

It’s not a top-five opponent, but after moving up the middleweight ranks, Derek Brunson is getting a tough foe – in a tough environment.

Riding a five-fight winning streak, Brunson (16-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) is now slated to fight Australian middleweight Robert Whittaker (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 101, UFC officials recently announced.

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Brunson is No. 7 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, and Whittaker is No. 12.

Brunson fought Uriah Hall in this past weekend’s UFC Fight Night 94 co-headliner and scored a TKO victory. The 32-year-old has now won five straight fights (the past four via knockout), and he’s 7-1 overall since joining the UFC in 2012 following a stint with Strikeforce.

After the Hall victory, Brunson said he wanted future matchup that will move him closer to a title shot (see the video above). A win over Whittaker – likely in hostile territory – would be a solid addition to Brunson’s resume.

Whittaker, 25, won “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes” in 2012 and is 7-2 since then. However, his best work has come of late. He’s won five straight fights – defeating the likes of Brad Tavares, Hall and Rafael Natal – with a pair of fight-night bonuses.

Luke Rockhold vs. Ronaldo Souza
Derek Brunson vs. Robert Whittaker
Jake Matthews vs. TBA

Chris Camozzi meets Daniel Kelly at UFC Fight Night 101 in Melbourne

November’s quickly filling UFC Fight Night 101 fight card has a new addition.

Officials today announced a bout between veteran middleweight Chris Camozzi (24-11 MMA, 9-8 UFC) and Australia’s Daniel Kelly (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC).

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Camozzi, currently in his third UFC stint, was moving toward a top-15 spot during a recent 5-1 run that included a “Performance of the Night” award with a 26-second knockout of Joe Riggs. However, in his most recent performance, the 29-year-old suffered a third-round submission loss to former title challenger Thales Leites.

Kelly, a 38-year-old and four-time Olympic judoka, joined the UFC in 2013 after appearing on “The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia.” He recently rebounded from his first career loss – via TKO to Sam Alvey in 2015 – with back-to-back wins over Steven Montgomery and Antonio Carlos Junior. UFC Fight Night 101 marks his fourth straight fight in Australia.

Richard Walsh meets Jonathan Meunier at UFC Fight Night 101 in Melbourne, Australia

November’s UFC Fight Night 101 fight card has its latest fight for the “Land Down Under.”

Canada’s Jonathan Meunier (7-1 MmA, 0-1 UFC) will venture into enemy territory to take on Australia’s Richard Walsh (9-4 MMA, 2-3 UFC) in Melbourne. Promotion officials today announced the new booking following an initial report from The Daily Telegraph.

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Walsh, a product of the “TUF: Nations” season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” won his UFC debut with a decision victory over Chris Indich at the TUF Nations Finale in April 2014. After back-to-back losses to Kiichi Kunimoto and Alan Jouban, the Aussie rebounded with a decision win over Steve Kennedy in Melbourne this past November. After a loss to Viscardi Andrade in March in his home country, he’ll be hoping for a rebound against Meunier.

Meunier made his UFC debut in June in his home country, but was submitted 54 seconds into the third round by Colby Covington at UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. That snapped the perfect 7-0 start to his career that got him the invite from the UFC.

Luke Rockhold vs. Ronaldo Souza
Derek Brunson vs. Robert Whittaker
Chris Camozzi vs. Daniel Kelly

Dan Hooker vs. Jason Knight added to UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia

A featherweight fight between Dan Hooker (13-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Jason Knight (14-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is slated for UFC Fight Night 101.

UFC officials recently made the bout official.

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Hooker, a 26-year-old New Zealander was recently in a 1-2 skid, but it included a “Performance of the Night” head-kick knockout win over Hatsu Hioki – one that earned MMAjunkie’s “Knockout of the Month.” Most recently, he earned a submission victory over Mark Eddiva in March. Twelve of his 13 career wins have now come via stoppage (six stoppages and six knockouts).

Knight, a 24-year-old who signed with the UFC in 2015 while on an 8-0 run, suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri in his promotional debut. In July, though, he picked up his first UFC win with a split-decision victory over former Cage Warriors champ Jim Alers. It earned “Fight of the Night” honors despite taking place on the early UFC Fight Pass prelims, where fighters often need dazzling performances to stand out for potential bonuses.

The latest UFC Fight Night 101 card includes:
Luke Rockhold vs. Ronaldo Souza
Derek Brunson vs. Robert Whittaker
Jonathan Meunier vs. Richard Walsh
Andrew Holbrook vs. Jake Matthews
Kyle Noke vs. Dominique Steele

UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia gets 3 new additions

Next month’s UFC Fight Night 101 lineup has a trio of new additions.

They include lightweights Yusuke Kasuya (9-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) vs. Alex Volkanovski (13-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), flyweights Geane Herrera (9-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Ben Nguyen (16-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC), and lightweights Damien Brown (16-9 MMA, 1-1 UFC) vs. Jon Tuck (9-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC).

UFC officials today announced the bouts via dailytelegraph.com.au and couriermail.com.au.

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Kasuya (against Damir Hadzovic) and Volkanovski (against Tuck) were slated to fight this weekend at UFC Fight Night 97 before the event’s recent cancellation. They’re now slated for a new matchup against each other.

Kasuya, a 26-year-old Japanese fighter and Legend FC/Shooto vet, was on a 3-0-1 run before signing with the UFC in 2015. However, he suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Nick Hein in his promotional debut. He now returns from an extended layoff to fight Volkanovski, a 28-year-old Australian fighter who makes his long-awaited (and twice-delayed) UFC debut while riding a 10-fight winning streak (with nine stoppages) on the regional circuit.

Herrera, meanwhile, is a 26-year-old Californian who looks to even up his UFC record after sandwiching a TKO win over Joby Sanchez with decision losses to Ray Borg and Ali Bagautinov. He meets Nguyen, a 28-year-old who won nine straight fights, which included UFC victories over Alp Ozkilic and Ryan Benoit, before a recent TKO loss to Louis Smolka.

Finally, Brown is a 31-year-old Australian who looks for his seventh win in eight fights. He recently rebounded from a unanimous-decision loss to Alan Patrick in his UFC debut with a knockout win over Cesar Arzamendia at UFC 201. He meets Tuck, a 32-year-old from Guam who’s alternated between wins and losses during his six-bout UFC career. He most recently suffered a split-decision defeat to Josh Emmett.

The latest UFC Fight Night 101 card now includes:
Luke Rockhold vs. Ronaldo Souza
Derek Brunson vs. Robert Whittaker
Jonathan Meunier vs. Richard Walsh
Andrew Holbrook vs. Jake Matthews

Jenel Lausa vs. Yao Zhikui rebooked for UFC Fight Night 101 in Melbourne

A flyweight matchup between the Philippines’ Jenel Lausa and China’s Yao Zhikui has been rebooked for UFC Fight Night 101 in Australia.

The pair was supposed to meet today at UFC Fight Night 97 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Lausa’s home country, but that card was scrapped following an injury to headliner B.J. Penn.

Featuring a key middleweight matchup between former UFC champ Luke Rockhold and perennial contender Ronaldo Souza, UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Zhikui (2-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) was a semifinalist on “The Ultimate Fighter: China” who’s 1-2 since joining the UFC. He suffered a split-decision defeat to Royston Wee in his promotional debut before rebounding with a split-decision win over Nolan Ticman. However, in his most recent bout, the 25-year-old Chinese fighter suffered a TKO loss (due to an arm injury) to Fredy Serrano in just 44 seconds.

He now meets Lausa (6-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC), a 28-year-old Filipino fighter who’s the reigning flyweight champion of the Pacific Xtreme Combat organization. He’s currently riding a four-fight winning streak and most recently earned a split-decision victory over Crisanto Pitpitunge in January.

With the addition to the card, UFC Fight Night 101 now includes:

Seo Hee Ham vs. Danielle Taylor rebooked for UFC Fight Night 101 in Melbourne

The fights from this past weekend’s canceled UFC Fight Night 97 event continue to find new homes, with a women’s strawweight contest the latest to be rebooked.

MMAjunkie today confirmed that Seo Hee Ham (16-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Danielle Taylor (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will take place at UFC Fight Night 101, following an initial report from Fight News Australia.

The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Ham, a 29-year-old Korean fighter, posted a six-fight winning streak to earn a UFC contract in 2014. The former Jewels champion moved up a weight class and suffered a decision loss to Joanne Calderwood in her UFC debut, rebounded for a decision win over Cortney Casey, and then suffered a decision loss to Bec Rawlings in her most recent appearance.

She meets Taylor, a recent UFC debutant who, despite being a sizable underdog, put up a valiant effort against Maryna Moroz at UFC Fight Night 92. She settled for a split-decision defeat, which snapped the 26-year-old King of the Cage vet’s two-fight winning streak.

With the addition to the card, UFC Fight Night 101 now includes:

With Dominique Steele out, Kyle Noke gets new UFC Fight Night 101 opponent

Kyle Noke has a new opponent for next month’s UFC Fight Night 101 event in Australia.

Dominique Steele (14-8 MMA, 1-3 UFC) has suffered an undisclosed injury, and Noke (22-9-1 MMA, 6-5 UFC) is now slated to fight replacement Omari Akhmedov (15-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC).

UFC officials announced the change via FoxSports.com.au.

UFC Fight Night 101 takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

Noke, a 36-year-old Australian, has been a UFC regular since a quarterfinal-round finish on “The Ultimate Fighter 11” in 2010. However, after a 3-1 run this included a drop to welterweight, Noke now looks to avoid his third straight loss following a controversial split-decision defeat to Alex Morono and a submission loss to Keita Nakamura.

He now meets Akhmedov, a 29-year-old Dagestani fighter who went 3-1 in his first four UFC fights. However, the well-rounded vet looks to avoid his third straight defeat after TKO losses to Sergio Moraes and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, the latter of which earned “Fight of the Night” bonuses.

The latest UFC Fight Night 101 card now includes:
Luke Rockhold vs. Ronaldo Souza
Derek Brunson vs. Robert Whittaker
Andrew Holbrook vs. Jake Matthews
Omari Akhmedov vs. Kyle Noke

With Rockhold injured, Brunson vs. Whittaker gets UFC Fight Night 101 main event slot

After an injury knocked Luke Rockhold out of his UFC 101 main event with Ronaldo Souza, the card needed a new main event.

The middleweight showdown between Derek Brunson (16-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) and Robert Whittaker (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) has gotten the bump and will now serve as the featured bout of the event, which takes place Nov. 26 (Nov. 27 in Australia) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The event airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. The promotion today announced the change to the card as well as the addition of two rounds to the bout.

Brunson is No. 7 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, and Whittaker is No. 12.

Brunson fought Uriah Hall in the UFC Fight Night 94 co-headliner and scored a TKO victory. The 32-year-old has now won five straight fights (the past four via knockout), and is 7-1 overall since joining the UFC in 2012 following a stint with Strikeforce.

After the Hall victory, Brunson said he wanted future matchup that will move him closer to a title shot (see the video above). A win over another top-15 opponent in Whittaker likely fits that bill.

Whittaker, 25, won “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes” in 2012 and is 7-2 since then. However, his best work has come of late. He’s won five straight fights – including impressive wins over notable opponents like Brad Tavares, Hall and Rafael Natal – with a pair of fight-night bonuses.

Souza’s status for the event remains up in the air, though his manager told MMAjunkie only a fight with champ Michael Bisping fits his goals.

The UFC Fight Night 101 lineup currently includes:
Derek Brunson vs. Robert Whittaker
Ronaldo Souza vs. opponent TBA
Andrew Holbrook vs. Jake Matthews
Omari Akhmedov vs. Kyle Nokev
Yusuke Kasuya vs. Alex Volkanovski
Chris Camozzi vs. Daniel Kelly
