Conor McGregor, Yoel Romero, Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson each earned $50,000 fight-night bonuses at Saturday’s UFC 205 event.

McGregor and Romero won “Performance of the Night” awards, and Woodley and Thompson took home “Fight of the Night” honors.

UFC officials announced the winners following the event.

Featherweight champ McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two belts at the same time when he knocked out lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez (28-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in the second round in front of a raucous crowd that was very pro-McGregor for the brash Irishman. The fight was the main event.

In the co-feature, welterweight champ Tyron Woodley (16-3-1 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) and challenger Stephen Thompson (13-1-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) had to settle for a majority draw. Two judges scored the fight 47-47, giving Woodley a 10-8 round and Thompson three rounds. And a third had the fight for Woodley, 48-47.

Romero (13-1 MMA, 8-0 UFC) put a massive stamp on his quest to become a UFC title challenger when he unleashed a slicing knee on former middleweight champ Chris Weidman (13-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) early in the third round. Romero landed the knee, then followed Weidman to the ground and took him out with several quick punches – the first of which made sure the cut that the knee caused was opened and gushing in full. Romero then called out champ Michael Bisping, who was shown on the big screens in the arena from his FS1 broadcast perch – flipping Romero the bird.

UFC 205 draws 20,427 fans in New York City debut, smashes gate record with $17.7 million

Saturday’s UFC 205 event drew an announced attendance of 20,427 and a live gate of $17.7, which shattered the UFC’s previous live gate record and set a new venue record for Madison Square Garden.

UFC officials announced the tallies at following the event.

UFC 205 took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and the main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

The UFC’s previous gate record was set at UFC 129 in April 2011 with more than $12 million at Rogers Centre in Toronto. UFC 200 in July at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas did $10.7 million.

In Saturday’s main event, featherweight champion Conor McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two belts at the same time when he dethroned lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez. McGregor now holds four of the UFC’s top six gates of all time, including Saturday night’s record.

UFC 205 marked the UFC’s long-awaited return to New York state, which recently lifted a ban on MMA. Prior to the ban, the organization hosted one event in the state: UFC 7 in 1995. The event took place at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium and drew an announced attendance of 9,000.

After UFC 205, the organization has a couple upcoming returns to the state: UFC Fight Night 102 on Dec. 9 in Albany, and UFC 209 on Feb. 11 in Brooklyn.

Woodley en Thompson, dat was echt de partij van het jaar voor mij. Twee gasten die elkaar respecteren en een schitterend gevecht.
