Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski will look to bounce back against hot prospect Francis Ngannou at UFC on FOX 23.
FOX’s “UFC Tonight” reported the matchup between Arlovski (25-13 MMA, 14-7 UFC) and Ngannou (9-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) on Wednesday evening. Although the event’s bout order has not been finalized, the matchup is expected to air on the FOX-televised main card of the Jan. 28 card at Denver’s Pepsi Center.
Arlovski comes into the fight in dire need of redemption following a trio of losses, all via stoppage. The most recent defeat came in September against fellow ex-champ Josh Barnett in the headliner of UFC Fight Night 93.
Ngannou, meanwhile, is riding high following a submission win over Anthony Hamilton at this past Friday’s UFC Fight Night 102, which served as his fourth straight win in the octagon.
It’s a quick turnaround for the Cameroonian fighter from France, who won a “Performance of the Night” bonus for tapping Hamilton with a kimura.
The bulk of Arlovski’s wins come by way of knockout, which portends an exciting matchup.
