The Cagewarriors Fighting Championships have yet again climbed out of the pits of despair following Dave Roche’s unfortunate but understandable withdrawal from the Cagewarriors 9: Xtreme Xmas card this Saturday in Sheffield.

Following a day for frantic phone calls and negotiations the CWFC are proud to announce that long time UK, Hook n Shoot, AFC and UFC 38 veteran Leigh Remedios will be making his Cagewarriors debut at CW 9. Remedios, who is a well known figure in the UK MMA scene and has featured in several TV documentaries in the UK, will be taking on the Turkish fighter Cengiz Dana 6-3-0 from the German “Outsider Club in an international superfight.

Remedios has graciously stepped in to take on this unknown quality, purely because he wanted to help out and save the show at the 11th hour in the CWFC’s time of need. This is another great example of how committed fighters are in UK MMA that they will take a risky fight with just 48 hours notice to help out a show and fellow fighters in need. We are grateful and feel this noble act should be commended by all. The CWFC team would like to thank Leigh and his Northern Cartel teammates for their co-operation and we are looking forward to seeing him make his long awaited debut in a CWFC octagon this Saturday.

Part of the reason for Remedios’s inclusion at Cagewarriors 9 was down to Dougie Truman’s (The CWFC promoter/Owner) desire to find an opponent for Gerald Strebendt, so a CWFC Lightweight Champion could be decided at Xtreme Xmas. And thanks to Leigh Remedios stepping up to take on Cengiz Dana, this has freed up the exciting Shooto star Gesias “JZ Calvancanti, from the American Top Team. “JZ will now face the UFC 43 veteran Gerald Strebendt for the vacant CWFC Lightweight Title in one of our 3 big title main events at Cagewarriors 9.

Again the CWFC team would like to thank Gesias, Gerald and the entire ATT, Outsider Club and Northern Cartel teams for their co-operation in helping us save this card. Without their patience and help, all would have been lost; yet again this is a great example of what the MMA scene can achieve if we all work together. The CWFC team can now look forward to what should be a great night of top notch MMA action from Sheffield and would like to thank everyone who has made this possible.
